almost everything we had was destroyed. then the gov sent out 100's of people to meander around our property for a couple weeks. They all asked "what do you need?" and then promptly did nothing at all. they had heavy equipment but wouldn't fix our driveway with it because they were too busy destroying the other part of the land to check out a beaver cadaver. the ONLY gov person to help was an out of state DOT guy on his own volition, who picked up a shovel and helped me dig my truck out of the driveway full of mud. all the rest did NOTHING but steal our land to fill the road back in that washed out to the point its a giant muddy hole that fills up with water instead of our driveway entrance. and to top it all off, we had DOZENS of trespassers and thieves and NO HELP with that either.

lotta disinformation going around, so here’s a PSA: 1) they didn’t “cut fire and police funding” they rearranged their total first responder budget, the 17 million went from the fire department to the police department based on what was observed the last fiscal year. 2) the water wasn’t taken into the reservoir because the sudden influx from the snow would’ve busted it open, a reservoir needs to slowly take up water in order to adjust to the load. 3) california is by far the richest state, they’re the 5th largest economy in the world. they give more money to the federal government than any other state. a large portion of the south actually receives more federal funds than it gives. california signs the south’s welfare checks. all this information is freely accessible online. if someone is trying to market this as a political stance, they’re either uninformed, or willfully ignorant and trying to use a tragedy to push your political agenda. either way, seek help

I understand where some of this sentiment is coming from in multimillionaires losing their homes (still devastating). But many of those who lost their homes on the other side of town in Altadena are lower income, multi generational homes who lost everything and have no skin the political game. Most of the people suffering are average people who now I’m sure would extend kindness and support to whoever needs it, after what they just experienced. So maybe drop your agendas, be the bigger person, and have some compassion instead of waiting for something to happen to you and your family before you’re capable of decency.
