Oh gosh what amazing timing for this video. I have 4mth and 13yr old Labs. I've crate trained the pup from the start and left her in the crate in the mornings when I'm in my office with the older dog. They don't sleep in the same room, but just this morning I let the puppy come in my office as she loves to be with the older dog and I thought she should make the most of the time we have left as the clock is ticking sadly. It will definitely be back to normal routine after watching this. Thank you.

All excellent. When I got my cocker Isla 13 1/2 years ago I knew she'd have to be left alone, so started very early on. Just two mins out of the room, then four, ten etc. As it built up I installed a video baby monitor with the screen in my workshop in the garden. Whenever I left her, I'd throw a little food down and quietly leave. I could do a bit of work and if she stirred and looked as though she might not settle again, I'd go in, completely ignore her, pretend to do something and leave again. No fuss, no drama and in all that time my neighbours said they never heard a peep. Nothing got chewed and she was always more than happy to be left. It took a lot of work but it was a great investment for both of us. Sadly I lost Isla a few weeks ago, and as she was an only dog, life is very empty at the moment. However, we had a fantastic bond as it was just the two of us against the world, and I always felt that neither of us wanted a second dog joining us. Although I'm paying the price now, I do feel that Isla enjoyed 100% of my love and attention and that was the best life for her. I'm now looking for a (show) cocker puppy to join me for a new set of adventures soon, quite possibly a relation to my dear Isla.

This video comes at the right time. Thanks! Our young dog has to learn to stay alone for longer periods of time, with and without her big brother. I recognise Chino’s behaviour a bit. My big dog can get tense or annoyed around other dogs, but with labradors like himself, he’s always “oh, family” and happy to be with them.

These videos are exceptional, hugely grateful! I have a fox red lab who was part trained as a gun dog and we were unwittingly undoing his training. ONE session with him yesterday and he's vastly improved! Would love to see a lesson on how to make him 'drop' the dummy or ball more effectively?

Hi Charlie, When my first dog had to be put to sleep, my younger dog wasn't present - the younger dog did pine - he was always looking for his mate. When he (the younger dog) had to be put to sleep the vet suggested having the latest dog present - he seemed to accept things and didn't pine.

Hi! I have a 4 month old working cocker named penny lane. She knows how to sit and I’m trying to teach her recall and lead training and it’s hard. She pulls like a maniac on the leash and I’m afraid she’ll choke herself. She comes sometimes and other times she stares at me like I’m crazy. I wish I knew what i was doing but i feel information overload. I know you’ve said there’s no step by step guide on how a dog should be trained but I feel like some structure would help me help her. Help with any of these issues would be amazing

This might fix the odd dog, but not the vast majority of dogs that become stressed and anxious when their owners leave the room. Keep guessing...
