How to help your peony blooms after they’ve finished blooming

If you are new to growing peonies, I’m sorry to break the news to you. She only sends up one set of blooms and then she rests until she’s ready to bloom again next spring. This is why people get crazy about peonies!
At this time in the year, when our peonies are finished blooming, we cut off all of the spent bloom heads so that the plant can focus on storing up energy through the summer months. Even though she won’t send up more blooms this summer, the foliage is beautiful in the garden. And come fall, the foliage will turn a gorgeous mix of gold, red & yellow. I love using it in all sorts of fall floral arrangements.
So, go prune off all of the dead blooms and let your peony happily restore itself thru the coming months. Plants are smart, they put their all into their season of blooming and then they rest so they can do it all over again bigger and better!

Thank you!!! I will take a photo of this beautiful peony bush that I enjoyed in my new home in Northern Nevada. The entire plant has new blooms on it and I have been at a loss since I have been living in Las Vegas the last 20 years. I can tell you about lantana, verbena, even purslane but not peonies. Your help is very much appreciated!!!
