I appreciate the option of thread basting for marking a hem line.

So did I ;) It’s not necessarily quick, but it’s a sure way to be able make a mark that you can see, that is easily pulled out afterwards.

Hi, thank you for these tips!! Very helpful! I did place a bag over a container to catch beads ,therefore beads are saved for future use. I do enjoy beading embroidery! Lou

Hi I am so curious to what you charged the bride and how long did it take you to remove the beads.
@SewDarnedFun
@SewDarnedFun Жыл бұрын
I honestly don't remember the time I spent removing the beads. It wasn't as long as I thought it would be, once I found the threads that would unravel. It's hard to say what I charged, because what I charge in my area wouldn't be the same as one might charge in a large city, or might be quite a bit more that one would charge in a part of the country/world that has a lower cost of living. What I can say is that it was hundreds of dollars ;)

Hi! I have a similar dress from BHLDN with not as many beads but the same mesh fabric. I have to take about 3-4” off the bottom and sew a foldover 1/4” hem to seal it. Would you hand stitch the hem of machine?
@SewDarnedFun
@SewDarnedFun Жыл бұрын
BHLDN has many lovely beaded dresses so I'm glad that owners of other 'models' have seen this video, such as you. Being that I cannot see which one you have, and the original look of the hem, I'm not sure what to specifically suggest. But I would suggest you consider these questions: 1) if you use a machine, are there beads in the way that would prevent your pressure foot from moving smoothly, or beads that your needle would run in to? 2) would a machine stitched hem look obviously out of place? 3) would it look better to have a less conspicuous hand-sewn hem? I'm assuming that you have watched this video to see that I didn't sew anything to hem the bottom on the dress featured here. It was beautiful and simple to use the glue and pluck of the beads out that went too far down. Hope this helps a bit!! Good luck!

Does that glue dry hard/solid? It looks like the dress has a lot of flexibility still. I’m very intrigued because I alter wedding gowns and last wk i just fished one w/ 20 hrs of beadwork and i need to find a faster way to get these dresses done! Thank you and looking forward to your responce.
@SewDarnedFun
@SewDarnedFun 7 ай бұрын
I’d say ‘yes’ to the glue drying solid. But the tip is like a pin size so the amount delivered is just enough to seal the thread to the end of the bead, or the bead to the fabric. This has been a game changer for me with ultra-heavily beaded dresses!! But yes the dress remains flexible :)

@@SewDarnedFun Thank you! I’m so happy i found this video. I have 2 wedding gowns that i am gonna use this technique on in the upcoming wk or two. Today I have a heavily beaded MOB dress that has a lot of bust work that i think I’ll wait to see how the glue works on the hem VS bust work. Have you ever use it other places then a hem? I would be nervous to try the glue up on the bodice or maybe i just have to get comfortable w/ it. Thanks again.
@SewDarnedFun
@SewDarnedFun 7 ай бұрын
@BethSoper Yes! I’ve use it in other places such as side seams. But I only use it for very heavy beading like on this dress. I’d make sure the glue doesn’t discolor the fabric if it’s in a visible location like the bust, before using it up there ;) I haven’t had that happen, but only have used it on light colored dresses where I haven’t noticed any difference in color. Let me know hi or works for you!!

Yellow. Would 3 in 1 glue work? I do Junk Journals and have a ton! I glue fabric and laces to my covers but ….
@SewDarnedFun
@SewDarnedFun Жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry! I can't comment on 3 in 1 glue, as I haven't no experience with it! The glue I use here dries quickly, has a teeny tiny applicator tip, and THESE BEADS DON'T BUDGE! So all I can do is sing the praises of this particular glue! Maybe compare the suggested application uses on both??? ;) Once again, thanks for watching!

You said it took about 6-8 hours. How do you keep track of your time, especially when you're interrupted?
@SewDarnedFun
@SewDarnedFun 2 ай бұрын
That's a great question! I look at the clock and write down the times that I start and end. If I get interrupted, I guestimate the interruption time and subtract it from that particular time block. It can be truly difficult to keep track of time when there are many interruptions. I didn't keep strict records of this dress, that's why I have the estimated time range spent. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching :)

I have a mother of gown with vertical lines of beading about an inch apart, all the way around the hem. This glue will prevent it from unspooling??? In the past, I unspooled as far up as I needed and needled it through to the back and knotted. That was painful! The glue is the answer??
@SewDarnedFun
@SewDarnedFun Жыл бұрын
I used glue on this dress! It kept the thread from unraveling. I dotted both the front and back, at the base of the bead I needed to keep on the front, and the thread of that same bead on the back… as well as another one or two next to it just to keep the thread extra secure. I would think that this glue might be a good answer for you. It worked for me on this dress, so that’s all I can say!!! Good luck!

@@SewDarnedFun , Ms. Carrie! I need help! A friend has asked me to sew 3 dresses for her! She's a BUSY, homeschooling mom of .... 8! I'd love to do this for her but I have NO idea what to charge. I'd rate myself as an intermediate seamstress with the ability to learn quickly with visual instruction. The pattern she's chosen is a button bodice shirt dress, gathered waist with jewel neckline; short, plain sleeves. How would you calculate price, M'am?

@@bonniehyden962 Hello, my friend! Would you like to email me privately so we can talk nitty gritty in private? I'll try to leave me email here in the comment but don't know if KZbin will allow it. If not, please access my personal business site, which is in the description, and my email can be accessed there. RochesterSewing 'at' comcast.net Thanks! :) But just as a general rule, can you calculate the approximate time you think you'd need to spend on one dress? That's what I do, then figure out what my time is worth to me. Then you'll need to add a few hours on top of that because it always takes more time! LOL!
