I've always been a "knowledge-driven" person, and have always wanted to know AS MUCH AS I POSSIBLY COULD about my current vehicle to keep it in exceptional, or at the very worst, "pretty good" condition.. but your channel (I feel) has elevated my knowledge, and helped me be a little more "car savvy" (if-you-will). I love all the tips and tricks to keeping your car- be it a beater, or an Aston Martin- (mine happens to be a little closer to the "beater" end lol) looking as good as it POSSIBLY CAN. Hi Larry! Building and painting scale models almost all of my teen and adult years tells me that if you have or borrow an airbrush and the right thinning agent for the scratch wizard paint may do the trick. Transitioning from hand painted models to airbrush painted ones was a god send before, maybe an airbrush will be a useful tool in your arsenal :)

Great tip on the stickers, which prevent further damage until you can get all of your dings, dents and chipped areas repaired professionally at one time. You have restored my confidence, Larry. I bought a touch-up kit for my car from VW and what I got was a 2-part (color and clear) touch up kit and my car is metallic. And to compound the problem, they were paint pens not proper paint bottles. I was able to touch up smaller dings but could not get the dispersion right on larger ones and never got the clear to flow in any useful way and gave up. Now I know it's not that I was incompetent but that I was trying to do the impossible. thank you :D

Great video, thanks again.

When I have this type of struggle I tend to beat myself up about not being able to do things perfectly. "If only I had the right products, and the right expertise..." This is something I've felt not only with my silver Z4 but also working on electronics or other personal projects. Normally, howto videos make any process look so effortless that it's frustrating for me as a young-ish broke-ish DIYer when I don't as quickly get the same results. Hey Larry, one trick I’ve had good luck with when trying to level touch up paint or that putty has been to wrap the towel around a meguiars foam sanding block. What i did was to sanding down a bigger area than the whole down to the clear plastic. I put a mesh filler pads from 3m then 3m plastic filler and then 2 coats of primer one prebase coat and 2 layers of base coat 1 layer of clear coat. After that i let it dry for 5 days and then i wet sand a bigger area than where the hole was and finally i polish the whole bumper. The result was perfect. I used spray cans for the whole procedure. A lot easier than playing with the painting small brushes.

Hi Larry! So I came across these contour and angle sanding grippers. I myself had a roof rack fail and the bolt underneath scrapped through a body line to bare metal. I just covered it up with primer and touch up paint. Looks like a scab right now. I thought for sure I could recreate the body line with the angle grippers. Seemed like the logical option. Maybe you could give it a whirl.

is this dude really a pro? I've seen people fix small scratches like this in minutes and you cant even see the touch up

depending on what way the sticker(i.e. if the colour is all the way through the sticker and not just on the surface of it) is made could you use a utility knife to cut the shape you want while at a 45 degree angle to soften the edges of the sticker

The touch up pen you can’t find is used for writing on ceramic with liquid gold and sold by companies who sell ceramic molds, paints , clays, and liquid gold . Hope this is helpful

Great video showing frustrations of a bodywork repair! But why not do the following: - sand off the protruding plastic bits; - use putty to fill the dented space so the shape matches what should be there; - sand down with P2500 to smooth the surface; - spray paint colour coating; - spray lacquer to finish?

I learned something new today! I had no idea that liquid leveler existed. I really enjoyed this review/tutorial. I think that anything that creates a high spot on a panel is beyond touch-up and turns into body work lol. Great video!

I had the same problem, and out of 5th time solved it perfectly. I had much bigger ridge on plastic, sand it down and fill in holes with leaving little dip, so when you put paint it is flush with the rest of the paint . Use paint with code in spray because it is not dense like touch up paint with brush, mask surrounding bodywork and spray untill you get little bit higher than old paint, then sand with sandpaper as required and polish. you could see the difference only because the code paint wasn't 100% accurate

^^^ THIS^^^ Clean with alcohol, sand high spots flat, scuff, clean, fill, sand flat, clean, tape around leaving 1/4" border, spray, feather edge and polish. Surprising how well is can blend. If dealing with exposed metal (more than a scratch), prep and seal with epoxy primer then finish up as above to cover with color.

This is the Larry equivalent of a raving review, we all know how “crazy” you are, so good enough for you is really quite a complement on the product

Initially inspired by Larry's old touch up video, I've tried the classic paint touch up with sanding, Dr. Colorchip, and dealer paint with Langka Blob Eliminator. I found the Langka method by far and away the best. You quickly go through the clear on a new paint if you're not careful, and so it is a very slow and methodical approach. If the touch up paint bubbles, as mine likes to do, you can't go back again without removing even more clear coat, which is not good (buy thinner if you have this problem, btw). Dr. Colorchip would be nice, but the color doesn't match quite right (even with a replacement bottle). Polishing never quite gets the gloss you'd want, and oftentimes removes the paint. Langka might not get quite as good of a look as the sanding method, but is essentially foolproof and blends the chips very well. I think next time around I'll lightly sand the edges as Larry says to minimize their appearance (they are very noticeable on my black truck) and then follow up with my touch up paint. Basically, I use just enough of the color to cover the metal/primer, then top with clear until it is slightly above the rest of the paint, then use blob eliminator to level it out. Polish to your satisfaction. Funny that you did a video on Color Wrap Match, as I was just looking at them the other day. As far as your feelings on touch up goes, I'm in 100% agreement. My wife also thinks I'm crazy too...paint damage has a way of driving one insane. Trying to figure out paint protection that won't cost $7k like a full xpel wrap. Had any experience with Autoflex? It looks pretty promising....

had the same problem on my vechicle...a stone chip the size of the Grand Canyon on the bonnet.tried touch up but was experiencing the same visual disapointment as your efforts.so ended up filling stone chip ,flating it off then had a vinyl stripe fitted over bonnet ,roof and boot of vehicle. was still cheaper than having bonnet respayed...

You should try using a catalytic plastic or epoxy filler, clear in color that hardens to provide less shrinking over time and heat and cold 🥶 that’s what I do and I’ve leveled off a lot with UV glue or hardened clear touching up deep or slight scratches and chips..only a suggestion the UV GLUE IS NEAT AND COMES IN PINPOINT PENS WITH A LIGHT 🙌🏻

Thanks for the video. All of us can tell you spent a ton of time on it. Your wife may not appreciate the absence of you but we are grateful for the insite. As always you are very thorough.
