In this video I show how to make the trunking that will be buried in a wall so that cable can be hidden as they go from a wall mounted TV to a cabinet below or to one side. Due to the current Covid 19 restrictions I am unable to chase the channel out.

Rolls Royce as always Peter. I subscribe to over 70 KZbin channels and you are one of the few British channels I subscribe to. The Brits, including me, are usually rubbish at presentation but you are one of the best. Thank goodness for the garden; my vegetable patch has never looked so tidy. Best regards.

Hi Peter - great video on how to make these boxes & certainly a neat solution. There is alternative which I use sometimes when installing this kind of thing in recording studios. You can get Single Gang Brush Wallplates which fit on standard backboxes. I always try not to limit the cable runs too much in case you need to route a chunky connector such as an IEC or suchlike or multiple cable formats. You can then use bigger trunking going into the single gang boxes giving you a little bit more wriggle room.

As electricians we use 50mm by 50mm trunking, and then use a single gang 47mm galvanised standard back box at either end we cut one side off the back box completely then butt the trunking up at either end, once plastered we then put a single brushed plate on both boxes 👍

Hi Peter, very smart as usual for your projects. I would probably have done it " quick and dirty" just cutting the cover piece shorter than the channel an tidying up by chamfering the plaster at the opening. But I am lazy! I am sure it was enjoyable and satisfying to make such a beautiful end piece out I'd scrap. We hope you are both keeping safe. PS will your 3M face mask filter out viruses. I think my JSP Force8 with ABEK P3 ( which I use for MDF) or P3 which I don't have at the moment should do this.

Hi Michael, Thank you for the kind words. I am not sure but there is probably a microbe quality filter available for the Versaflo. It is also useful that the filter pack is worn behind the back. I went into Screwfix today wearing a mask and disposable gloves - I think they might have run a mile if I went in with the Versaflo, but maybe next time ! Cheers. Peter

You may want to add a couple of lengths of string inside the duct for pulling through whatever cable will eventually replace HDMI. Especially handy if, for some reason, your cable duct has to have a bend in it. Similarly, if you do need a bend, then two 45 degree corners is better than one 90 degree one. Some cables are chunky or contain optical fibres don't like tight corners below about a 2" radius.

Hi Chris, When I (eventually) install that ducting I would show the foresight of a pull-through. Cheers. Peter

Hiya. This is a great video, although i don't think I have the confidence to make the end boxes just yet. Unfortunately I don't have the tools either. I was wondering whether you have chased this into a wall yet, and if so, have you uploaded the video as I can't find it on your channel. Thank you
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sachen, Yes, the work is complete. The chasing was very easy - I drew a pair of vertical lines about 50 mm apart then drilled along them, to a depth of about 30 mm, with a 6 mm masonry bit. I then used a cold chisel to remove the waste in between. After fitting the trunking I used some wire mesh to help support a layer of mortar followed by some finish plaster. Peter

@@NewBritWorkshop Hi Peter. Sorry just another question on this. I will be channeling the trunking in, and require the boxes on either end. Unfortunately I don't have the tools in order to make what I require, which in this case is the boxes on either end of the trunking. Do you make these for customers at all, or do you provide just a guide on how to make them? Sorry if you don't make parts for customers. I have watched a few of your videos and love watching them, although I love the quality of the pieces you make.
@NewBritWorkshop

Hi Sachen, I do not sell things at all but you can buy "Back Boxes" or "Surface Mount Pattresses" which could go at either end of your trunking. Here is a link to a UK supplier: www.screwfix.com/p/lap-1-gang-galvanised-steel-mounting-boxes-35mm-10-pack/3074f Good luck. Peter

I must have missed something. This said in a wall. It's in trunking with wood openings.byou can buy neat finished openings for the cables. I was here to see if they had a better way to bury it in the wall than the way I do it as it's so bloody time consuming and messy.

Or you could have all your electrical and media outlets/inlets chased into the wall and then plastered around, behind the TV/Appliances, far better job.
