Wrapping up a power cable then plugging it in can be very dangerous! Be careful about doing that. On extension cables that already come on a device that wraps them, it will tell you to fully unwind before use. The reason is how electricity works in a loop like this. It lowers the capacity of the cable to take so much power running along it. So if you put full power through a cable , but it is now wrapped in a loop like this, it will overheat and if it heats too much, can start an electrical fire. So, please be careful about wrapping and plugging in.

I was wondering about this- I had always been told not to wrap cords or if I had to to do it loosely. So when it was wrapped and plugged in 😨. Thanks for sharing!

Indeed, I once used a 5 m extension keeping it all rolled up in its round box...It overheated to the point that the plastic box melted! I'm very careful now and always unroll cables completely, even when they are annoying

A little fun fact: In german there’s a nice word for when a bunch of wires and cords lay around chaotically: „Kabelsalat“, which would be „cable/chord salad“ in English ☺️

These cord management ideas are brilliant, I did not know they existed! Definitely going to look into it. I live in an apartment built in 1981, before all these devices existed. There are three outlets in the bedroom. That is where I have my desk, computer, phone charger, lamps (because at that time overhead lights were not in vogue!) behind my desk, I have two surge protectors, and behind another piece of furniture is another surge protector, with all the spaces filled. Watching a KZbin DIY video I made a wire basket hanger to keep them off the floor. Just yesterday I had a tv tech here, he told me the wire basket racks were dangerous…… your suggestions came just at the right time. I need to assess what I need and will make some changes. Thank you…..

Man that looks so much better, we just re did all the wires in my room bc some went to things that weren't there anymore and we got a flipper for the tv so it could go between the DVD player, PlayStation, wii, etc without having to go thru all these steps and labeled everything. While it felt and looks great, the cords are all still out and would look great in one of those boxes that i didn't even know was a thing. Thank you!

I use the clips to keep cords out of the floor to simplify cleaning. I do not care that they look weird, specially the home phone cord stick to the kitchen drawers. I even make "cute bows" with them, imagine "cable bows" floating just 4 inches over the floor. When I am cleaning, they even look cute to me.

Finally! A useful and intelligent DIY video by a woman, yay! Most are not up to par. This is very useful and got to the point. Thank you for NO MUSIC, what joy! 1:38 - I had the same idea but had not thought of slots in sides. Genius. I want to improve on this. Make a hinged box with lid. Cut out holes in lid (don't use fancy bamboo!), stick a tin can inside and use it to store your hair dryer inside the can using the lid hole. Cord goes inside the box or hangs on a hook on wall, wrapped up neatly. You can also cut holes for electric toothbrush recharging, curling irons, etc. Use sticky tape to mount the cans inside or hot glue dabs. This solves the messy hairdryer problem finally. A big advantage of a surge protector is that you can turn the switch off, so you don't use up power with appliances plugged in. I would advise against sticky cable clips. Use the ones with nails. Hammer them into the wall anywhere preferably on studs or base molding. Easy to remove and wall paint does not come off like sticky pads. Easier to patch up holes with spackling paint. The nail holes are very small. Sticky ones are good for furniture backs though. Great tips on the cord wrapping hooks you can stick on appliances. What a godsend! I see you are expecting a baby and most likely delivered already. Congratuations! Here are my tips on babies: 1. Get a Swingomatic cradle by your bedside so you can sleep while baby rocks to sleep. Saves your sanity and marriage. 2. Keep baby's head at least 3 feet away from any power outlets on wall when sleeping. This is one reason autism is on the rise. 3. Make a list as to why baby is crying next to her/his crib. Such as 1. Check diaper. 2. Check if bed wet. 3. Is baby hungry? etc. Saves time when you are drowsy from sleep and trying to figure out why. 4. Put baby in swimming pool soon as they are 4 months old. They have a reflex where they hold their breath when you blow in their faces so you can dunk head underwater without problem. Later, using goggles, show them how to release air underwater by blowing thru nose BEFORE it goes into the water. Humming is a good trick. Once the baby swims, esp outdoors, she/he gets full dose of Vit D3, and muscle tone improves rapidly in 1 week. They sleep deeply with all that Vit D, and no drowning issues in playmates pool or water slides.

After much consideration, I require everything be wireless. Wired lamps, phones, and refrigerator-- all no longer allowed. I don't know how, make it so! Also, walls that pictures and shelves will hold their place until i want. None of these command stickers that dont stay and are difficult to use in the first place. I worked in a museum so I know it can be done. Maybe things like clothes and notes can go up too. 🤯Excuse me while i go patent some things! 🤓

Is there a good way to wrap up the charging cord while in the vehicle? I leave mine plugged in all the time, but the end of the cord is all over the place. My daughter also uses it from the back seat, so just using a cable tie isn't a good option to wind it up, unless maybe a velcro wrap? Mostly it is just me using it in the front seat. Then once I wind it up - use a Command strip somewhere near where it is plugged in? Is there a better solution?
