Yurok Loop to Hidden Beach is one of our favorite coastal trails along Redwood Highway 101. We stumbled upon this beautiful trail while wanting to stretch our legs in between harder hikes in the Redwood National and State Parks such as Tall Trees Grove or Damnation Creek. To our surprise, even though it is an easy trail, Yurok Loop to Hidden Beach is super beautiful and has a wonderful payoff. It also overlaps with the Coastal Trail to the Klamath River Overlook, which is great for hikers who want to make it into a longer hike

That looks amazing! We’ve been in the South (literally the “South”), so our landscapes have been totally different here - having a blast in the swamp, but ready to see this again. Love that she had that dress!

About the drift wood. The wood is ejected from the rivers during high water. Smith river and the rogue river as well as the Klamath river could be the original source for the wood on that beach. It has been made illegal to harvest wood from the beach which crippled the economy of several local communities.

There are multiple ’hidden beaches’ in the local area. Several actually are known by that name. Mostly notable for their difficult accessibility. It is an adventure in and of itself to discover these. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for the info! The wood definitely makes for a photogenic scene. It is to ba that it hurt the communities though!

We used to fish that old log pond for trout. There used to be an old mill there back in the day.

And since you found one…way back in the day there was a teacher at HSU that taught art. He would take his students out an make sculptures beside 101 highway between eureka and arcada in humbolt county. They were a local iconic thing that always caused curiosity amongst visitors. It’s kinda cool that I recognize the style of the build. Even if the creator wasn’t actually his student, I would bet it was influenced by those sculptures from way back then.

So cool! We really appreciate all of the local knowledge. Whoever built the shack was definitely skilled. It seemed like every single piece was custom made for its spot.

We drove all the way down there from Crescent City to hike the trail but found the park closed & some construction going on, So, we visited Trees of Mystery & ate at the Log Cabin diner then went home. !

I'm guessing that those logs get there from some of the rivers that run to ocean. The winter rains blow them out and down the river.
@LiveThatAdventure

That is probably one of the most likely culprits. The only other thing that we could figure is that maybe the cliffs have eroded and trees went over the edge. But I think your idea sounds better :D

@@LiveThatAdventure it’s part of the legacy of logging. All rivers and creeks were used for the massive logging industry. Even weirder there are old train tracks and trestles deep in the woods all over Northern California logging areas.

I’ve hiked from Klamath River overlook after staying at Klamath Holiday inn. I’ve also done the 1/2 mile hike from Trees of Mystery on highway 101 down to Hidden Beach. I got the only parking spot along highway 101 at the Hidden Beach sign. I know nothing about Yurok loop. Never saw it.

@@LiveThatAdventure thanks for the video. There is usually no one at Hidden Beach. Motorists don’t see the small brown sign indicating a trail head because they are always looking across highway 101 at the Trees of Mystery and the tall Paul Bunyan statue.
