By far the best explanations about kick serves on KZbin. I watched hundred of videos and this one is from another dimension. Crystal clear. You are the only one saying that we should wait for the ball and let it drop. I think that's the key for most of us. Not jumping and staying sideways also helps a lot to keep a "clean" gesture from the beginning to the end of the motion. This way we can really feel the sensation and get a really high bounce. You have a gift for explaining and giving simple actions to get fast result. THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!! You gave us a ton of value for free.

Jeremy, I hope life is treating you well and that you're making a good living through tennis. I say this because I have spent a long time trying to improve at tennis, teaching myself as I can't afford lessons, and the quality of your coaching videos is absolutely exceptional. This and your other videos are superlative. If you were a teacher in a school no pupil would ever fail. Best wishes.

Jeremy, I viewed this again. One detail that I noticed watching you serve: before the wind up, you have your racket pointed into the court. I copied that and found it enhanced the fluid motion I needed to serve better kicks. That was true of flat and slice serves also. Thank you!

Not only will this make your second serve better it will make your first serve better. I love how in the development stages his finish is at the top. Too many people accelerate down on their serve.

Great point to wait longer before swinging up as high as you can so as to catch the ball lower and have the space to swing up through impact. While the need to do this should be logical to maximize the spin, previous serving instincts/experiences, and with no one I heard really specifically pointing that idea out, limited my kick serve as I swung and contacted "almost" as high as other serves. Although never as high, the height was still too high. Doing that 1 thing and waiting a bit has increased the kick the ball has tremendously and my kick serve is in a much better place thanks to that tip! Better net clearance, depth, and spin. Like Tom Petty sang, the "waiting is the hardest part" as it seems too easy to rush it and want to hit too soon in the ball drop... but believe it or not, singing that song line while practicing really helped me gain patience! Appreciate it!! I'm a subscriber now for sure...

I like the emphasis on waiting as long as you can to hit up on the ball. I think that's a good drill because I struggle with hitting the top of the tape consistently on my topspin serve and now I realize it's probably because the ball was too high when I was trying to hit it.

Excellent Kick Serve tutorial! I an my tennis playing son watched this. This is the first time he understood the concept of kick serve. He was hitting the ball too early and was missing the effectiveness of the kick. He has a kick serve you-tube video (google Allen's tennis), but now it looks flawed. Cant wait to go out tomorrow and try your progression. Will let you know how it turns out. Thanks for preparing the video!

I've viewed kick serve instruction on many channels and done dozens of hours of drills and attempted serves. I came back to a drill from this clip because I was having trouble with consistency. I repeated the drill hitting the ball from the trophy position for about 120 balls. That helped me better burn the swing path and the ball toss into my remaining brain cells. It was difficult to get my mind past performing all the progressions and hoping to have a kick serve in an hour or two. The reality of my brain says proficiency happens over many hours of performing the drills. And I can't just assume that a good solid hit will land the ball in the service box, if the toss and swing path isn't just right. Among the tips that Pete at Crunch Time Coaching gave: LOB the BALL. Attempting to infuse velocity at my level diluted the kick. I'm learning everything left handed after I dinged my RH last year. That said, I've since tried the serve right handed--while easier, it does require some new neural pathways to do it right. Cheers everyone!

Similar youtube videos about the 'kick serve' left out key elements, which elements you included such as allowing the ball to drop substantially so that the swing up causes the topspin--a very vital part of the technique.
@lamsonnguyen22065 жыл бұрын
exactly my point! nobody as I can recall emphasizes on letting the service toss drop down so you can hit up, otherwise you'd be hitting a flat serve or some kind of weird serve!
