to everyone asking for tips at tryouts when you have no experience... if your tryouts are near: you should practice things such as playing catch with a sibling or parent. It is also a good idea to invest in a tee, net, and several balls (if you're really serious about it) Take tryouts as a learning experience, and don't get beat up if you don't make it. If you do make the team, great. You will get much better as you progress through the season. If you don't, you didn't have much practice so you should keep practicing, get better, and try again the next year. Good luck to you! if your tryouts are far: You should take advantage of the time you have to practice. You should go out at least 3 days a week if you want to get progressively better. Again, invest in a tee, net, and several balls. You can also play catch with a parent or sibling. As you get better, start throwing from farther and farther away. Practice based of the position you want to play. (ex; 1st base would practice catching) To everyone... make sure you choose the position you want to play because at my school we do tryouts in groups based on our position. You don't want to get there, have no clue where to play, and get stuck as a pitcher when you have no clue how to pitch. Know the field. Know at least the basics. Practice makes perfect. I wish you all good luck!

D. When gripping the bat which hand goes on top? Right for a right-handed people left for left-handed people E. What is the maximum amount of space the bottom hand should have from the bottom of the bat? 2 or 3 finger widths away F. Why is it important for you to line up your “knocking” knuckles? So you can roll your wrists properly when you swing G. What should your toes, hips, and shoulders be facing when up to bat? the plate H. What are two things you should not do when batting? Lift your back elbow or wrap your back behind your head

In the recap the first thing I noticed that was wrong was if you want a good strong hit you should have around 65-70% of your weight on your back foot and 30-35% of your weight on your front foot. Then when you swing you should finish with 65-70% of your weight on your front foot and 30-35% on your back foot.

I think I'm just really weak, the bat is genuinely too heavy to hold like that and hurts my hands and wrists to swing, even following tutorials correctly. Tbh I'm kinda embarrassed if anyone breaks in I'll probably just leave the bat and run lmao
@kerd43 жыл бұрын
I suggest some batting gloves and perhaps a smaller bat. If it's too heavy, you don't want to hurt your arms just practicing. Also, be sure not to lock your joints (elbows, wrists, shoulders) when you swing. It can strain you and give you less control of the bat. Stretching before and after will help your muscles build, too (or at least lessen fatigue and improve circulation). If you really really want to use that bat, maybe put in some extra work on your arms and core muscles besides practicing the swing. You could even use your bat as a weight doing one-arm laterals. If you feel pain during stretching, ice the area for twenty minutes at a time with ten minute breaks to give your tendons/ligaments more circulation.

when one "loads" the elbow automatically comes up. by teaching a young player to start in this position u eliminate that "load step" as they are starting in the load position. as far as it being uncomfortable; its gonna be to start with much like if u learn to play a guitar the finger positions on the keyboard are uncomfortable to start with practice, practice, practice makes those positions noit only comfortable but second nature. its fine for an experienced player to start like this and then load as pitcher is going into the wind-up but with an inexperienced player it eliminates the load step and all it takes to make them comfortable with it is practice practice practice...just like anything else

The grip is actually one of the few things in this video that are right. Lining up your knuckles is the correct approach to allow your wrists to roll through the swing. Most people grip the bat too tightly with their top hand, which slows down the swing.

Right away I noticed the girl in this video has flawed swing mechanics. She was too early and ended up out in front which had her reaching for the ball. She was upper body dominant because her legs did not work in synch. An upper body dominant swing produces weak hits that will be easy outs for the infield. In order to hit with power, you have to use your entire body. Both the upper and lower body must be connected and work as one unit to get the bat through the zone and provide explosive power at contact. She had better contact hitting off the tee, however her upper body was controlling the swing which is wrong. The hips should be driving the swing not the arms.

That means that she pretty much has no clue as to what she is doing and all she knows is the basic stuff(which the things she said weren't even true!) I came here looking for some tips on how to hit the ball really well and this just wasted my time...
@slackers_unite3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, she was swinging down through the ball. You’ll just get grounders every time. I’m a 7th season Girls 12u softball coach. You want to swing with a level to slightly upward pattern. This keeps the bat in the path of the pitch longer and you’ll drive the ball more. The other part of driving a ball is of course getting the power from your legs and not trying to muscle the ball with your arms. Any good coach or professional player ever will tell you that the power comes from the legs. Take a look at MegRam softball or Antonelli softball on KZbin. They have great vids.

It's a training technique to learn how to complete the swing in a balanced stance. This is the first time I've seen it, but it makes total sense. Kids especially develop all kinds of bad batting habits (weight too far forward, stepping "out" instead of toward the pitch, etc). The little hop at the end helps them test whether they completed the swing correctly.

@McScott766 жыл бұрын
It can be anywhere you want it to be before you "load" for the swing. On the shoulder is perfectly fine. Straight up and down is perfectly fine. Literally anything you want to do is perfectly fine. What matters is where the bat is positioned when you "load" prior to swinging. That doesn't happen until the pitcher starts her motion. So resting the bat on your shoulder is a perfectly fine resting position. When you load to swing, you'll lift it off the shoulder and pull your arms and elbows into swinging position.
