This is a good "start" for young players and coaches. Much has changed in 6 years so let's get off the "Bash Bus". In my 25 years as a coach I've seen 25 "new and improved" hitting techniques. The game is always evolving.

Nothing has changed in how people actually hit. What changed is people actually studied it and stopped just repeating the bad advice coaches were giving. High level hitters don't chop down on the ball (even those who think they do).

I joined a brand new team this year, and they do not show us to hit like this. They have us hitting the ball straight out, not downwards. Also, both knees are bending and we don't lean. Should I bring this video to attention, or is this just a different way? What kind of changes in hitting the ball does this make, compared to the way we've been shown?

The USA team told my girl to do all that but bring it to the back for a bigger follow through

This video is an example of many of the cues that are used in youth softball by coaches who have zero understanding of proper swing mechanics.
@efraer9 жыл бұрын
The mechanics demonstrated in this video do not match the swings of high-level hitters - pro softball, D1 softball, MLB, or anywhere. Feel free to compare video for yourself. However, this is typical of the stuff being commonly taught to young players by coaches who haven't educated themselves about what happens in a good swing. As a coach, I believe we can do better. As a coach, I am always learning.

I always hit my back. If I don't it means that I swung up and wil hit a pop fly.

If I don't hit my back it mean I didn't hit the ball hard

I hit my arm. It’s a tight quick swing.

smh. The girl in the vid doesn't even keep her hands in when she swings. And you dont need to do a "toe tap" before your hips "rotate." Like what??

I see girls hitting there backs all the time. nor so sure about that part. As for the rest, after working with my girls with these tips, they are all hitting the ball well. As for one of the other comments, no one should be teaching a softball hitter to swing like an MLB player. It's not the same at all.

Yes it is. The downward angle of the pitch is not identical, but the swing mechanics are.

This has got to be the worst hitting video I have ever seen. Absolutely horrible.

Agree. The hitter also looks very un natural. Form is not strong at all.
