I always found the best way to hit a fastball was close your eyes and swing as soon as he nods. It works all 1 out of 1000 times. Also I'm 5'5" so crouching down also helps. If you can do both these things than you'll be on your way to playing in a beer league. I'm a two way hitter, worst batting average but best on base percentage around. Key to that, don't swing and pray to the gods he can't hit your tiny strike zone. If your above 5'6" then there's no hope for you, just be a big league and let me eat me my rocky road ice cream on the couch in peace. Btw, if the Padres are looking for a 33 yr old vet with my kinda hitting skills, hook me up...

Hitting those fireballers can be really tough but it's all about rhythm and timing when it comes to hitting so a big part of it is just starting a little earlier. Thanks for the tips!

YouGoProBaseball hey coach on that last tip from Nick he talks about not letting the barrel get too deep behind him. Does it just mean in other words take alittle off and not take too big of a swing?
@YouGoPro5 жыл бұрын
RiseAbove 756 I believe that is what he meant but let me ask him.
@SolitarySoldier5 жыл бұрын
YouGoProBaseball thanks alot! Seems like he is emphasizing more contact but at the same time isn’t it better to get our barrel deeper to allow more room for error since the bat is in the zone longer? In the swing highlights his bat was in the zone for a long time against guys throwing heat!
@YouGoPro5 жыл бұрын
RiseAbove 756 I believe he still wants to be on plane, just a quicker and possibly slightly steeper attack angle but that is just my assumption. I will ask him.

We were 14-15. Kid is throwing high 80s, low 90s. I was batting 3rd, and scared of whiffing and being made fool of. I watched pitcher good while on deck. Once in the box, petrified, I started my load early, out of 😨 fear. Got my foot down on time, connected front part of plate, sent ball 400+ ft dead center field for a long homer. Everybody yelled WOW! I GOT IT ALL. Shockingly, I wasn't swinging for distance at all. Just tried to make contact. His speed, and my flush contact did it all. It shocked me so much, I still remember it like yesterday. John Gibson threw me that pitch. He struck me out the next season, different teams us both, with the first super nasty curve I had ever seen. I damn near dove out the box to avoid a head shot, just to watch it break across the plate for a strike. I said DAMN! at myself, and was kicked out the game instantly by home plate ump. I walked off and that was the end of my baseball career. I'm now 61. Time flies. God bless you, Gibson.

Hey Coach do you have any good indoor pitching drills. I don’t have a net and it is cold outside so it makes it hard to practice outside. I have a little space but not much.

Find a pal. Brave the cold. Practice throwing with thoughts of how good you'll be next summer. Thats what we did, on a snowy diamond in Germany. You'll get in an hour or so. Go in. Come back later, or not. Good luck. Have fun. It was me, David, and brothers Jeff and Kenny. Kenny played in the LL World Series, at Williamsport. We were Air Force brats, representing Europe. Well, Kenny was the All-Star.

I’ve never tried to hit 102 mph, but seems like a little luck helps too. But in order get a little lucky, you still have to try to adjust and increase your chance for success. You’re not in as much control of the situation, but can adjust to regain some of the control of the situation.

Pretty sure that's child abuse at the end... (laugh) Poor little guy... Those noggin's always find something to knock into at that age... Great advice here. Any advice on hitting SLOW pitchers? My 11u slugger (playing 50/70) struggles more with THAT than fast pitchers. He can crush 60 mph, but struggles against 47-ish "fastballs". Slowing DOWN your loading is a real trick...
