Had one of my worst days of golf Tuesday - topping fairway wood after fairway wood. Stumbled upon this video last night and was intrigued. Went back to the same course this morning and decided to give it a whirl. Got there early and literally picked up a bucket of range balls and tried the technique with the fairway wood that was giving me trouble. Expected absolutely nothing. First shot went 175 yards straight as the proverbial arrow. Stunned. Tried it again. The same. Again. The same. I was nearly trembling as I could not believe what I was witnessing. I hadn't thought about playing today, but decided to try nine holes. Wound up playing 18 and reduced yesterday's score by 18 strokes - literally a stroke per hole. The most difficult Par 4 for me on this course usually winds up with me feeling grateful for a six and ecstatic when I get a five. My second shot landed dead middle of the green and I recorded my first-ever birdie on that hole. Had it not been for some poor putting on two holes the improvement could have been 20. I'm still flabbergasted. It seemed too easy of a fix, but I am a believer. Ironically none of my normal playing partners were there to witness it, but I did have one man walking his dog on the course applaud my approach shot from 155 yards out that landed on the green. Wasn't pin high, but definitely a lot better than the normal 20 yards shorts and way to the right or left. Thanks!

This guy has a great glossary for his vocabulary. In other words though for those who aren't hip to golf lingo, teaching his lessons describes actions perfectly. Got it? 👍🏼

I play off 1 and I’ve always tried to get my nose ahead of the ball with irons. Suffice to say I thin more than I should and the odd shank when I come over the top. Clay’s illustration makes great sense and this will be my main thing to work on at the range

I remember this technique from years ago - i must have had this problem.. I'm back playing after 25 years and really struggling. It's extremely frustrating. I'll give this a go again. Thanks for this lesson!

That was great! One thing I learnt was the pros having their spine angled to the right at 20 degrees, but staying balanced on their front foot because the hips tip to the left to compensate and remain balanced.

Thanks Clay! This drill will get a ball first, downward swing, opposed to a sweep swing. I think many of us believe that because we play on less than perfect conditions, sweeping the ball is the best way to make good contact, but if you hit ball first, it makes no difference in where you have to hit from.

Really like this drill...with a variation. I put my lead foot in the actual position about six inches or so towards the target, right where a typical shot would place it. That way I can put the trail foot on tip toe right where the ball is, weight on my lead foot.

That is very good advice. It is easier to learn this drill and do it correctly by starting off with 20-30 yard shots then moving up little by little

Never learned this starting out and believe it’s where causal golfers lose most their distance. Bewildered me why everyone was longer and I constantly kept swinging harder which sacrificed my consistency. Also, had no clue about tempo and to not try and power through the ball like tennis or baseball.

Love this, but always forgett to do this when on range or on the course :-/. One thing, often you guys who is giving instructions never talk about what iron you are using. Is this instruction the same for all irons? Think not...looks lake you are holding a 6 or a 5? When going on the less loftet clubs, with longer shafts.....what should you aim for i your swing? The difference between a 4 iron to a e.g. 8 iron? Thanx overall for your channel.

@@Beantown85 I got a coach to help me, it’s not the foot it’s the wrist. I have to bow my wrist and never met it unbow. If I unbow then I hit well behind. The foot made it worse because it caused me to dip.

I really like the videos and appreciate the content, but every time the video magically transitions into the anti-roll method sales pitch, it just turns me off a little. There must be a better way to promote your anti-roll method content without crow-barring it into every video. Just some friendly advise.

Sliding the hip to the left is NOT what the pros do. They rotate the left hip to the rear. That shifting the weight by sliding the hip to the left causes a block. When Clay executes a real shot, the "transfer" of weight is not a hip slide either. The other parts of the video are good. I watch bad players all the time at the range and seldom see the fire and fall back thing. Not to say that I see a good move to the left either.
@biesik
@biesik 2 жыл бұрын
of course they also slide the hips.. otherwise there would be no right tilt at impact.. It’s nice to see how Stack and Tilt has become the standard in teaching today 🤙🏼
