A little story that really pretty much directly relates to this, so I'm pretty young in this story I think 13-14 and me and my dad go golfing. Now I have only been a few times before so I'm still very noob and trying to figure everything out. My thinking was the harder I swing the better the ball is gonna go so every drive I would try to crush it and every time it would just barely dribble off or maybe go like 50 yards or maybe I sort of got good contact but it was so far off target and even then only would go like 80 yards at most. At this point I was very frustrated and just wanted to go home and so on this one drive I told myself I'm just barely gonna swing cause I'm so over it and I did and it freaking LAUNCHED off my driver!! I was absolutely blown away and completely mind tripped out and couldn't believe that I barely swung and it went 10000x further and straight then any other drive!! That day changed my life hahaha thought I would share I know it was long sorry lol

The biggest improvement to my game after I watched the Women's Open on TV. Women, smaller than me were hitting the ball 295 yards. I watched and copied their slow swing and full follow through. Over the next month I put more than 25 yards on my average drive with a 5 wood, to about 215 yards. I was 68 at the time.

he is her dad...he says, "one more baby", she says "I want to try one more"..then he says "Is dad going to say no?" I do like the reference to Payne Stewart because HIS BIG GOLF TIP to golf-reset is to hold the golf club straight out like a baseball bat and then a Casual horizontal positioned back and forth Club swing is really how your Angled golf swing should be as well. You will notice your feet casually moving to enable the calm back and forth swing. When we feel we are struggling we should just reset out on the course. We could even before taking our first swing just do this a couple of times and feel how the body works as one unit with the feet allowing the body to twist. It truly is about a casual swing. The magic of golf is that a casual swing as in this video here is natural golf which really is a lateral club face impact and more acceleration afterwards casually more so than a big circle power wind up and sloppy clobber. Just go to the driving range and try the horizontal to the ground swing tip and watch how simple your feet move with the swing and then think of this '175 yd swing' in this VIDEO and just start out casually hitting the ball comfortably without losing your balance. It is about effortlessness, it's about the human body just spinning to throw something. the problem is a typical slugger big amateur softball bat swing with a huge foot push off does NOT work in golf, you're not supposed to thrust your legs making your body go forward at all in golf because it is more like a tennis stroke spin and believe it or not in tennis you have to watch the tennis racket hit the ball through impact as you plan on raising the racket for top spin. You even have to do that in ping pong. if you hit your 'slowest golf swing' then you hit the ball more squarely with the club face and you simply swing through the ball location increasing speed and the ball is simply history, gone... it is the same force of a judo chop. Because someone trying to break a board in half does not even think of hitting the board they're simply going to do an intense movement where their hand will be Way Beyond past the board and by the continuous almost Godly Force miraculously it will break the board. But if they concentrate only on the impact with the board they will Flinch Jitter and hold back back and actually break their hand. Just go to the driving range and hit only two golf shots with the driver. on the first drive hit slow and calm with concentration on a straight club face and guaranteed straight shot and watch just how far that slower Drive Will Roll out once it lands far down range in the fairway, it will roll almost to 300 yd. And then hit another drive with your usual power thrust and you will NOT hit the ball as clean the shaft will bend more the club face might even be changed off-target and once you hit the ball you will wind-down instead of accelerating because you are all powered up and might fall down. And you may hook or slice and go into the woods. And you also will not have roll out. That slowest swing on Earth mentality will send your ball straighter down range at miraculously farther distances without even trying. The only other thing I can mention out here 'from the peanut gallery' is just look at Jack Nicklaus iron swing like in a ytube video of his iron swing on possibly hole 12 or 13 at Augusta you will see the man just calmly twist backwards to a straight right leg and he even allows his left foot heel to lift off the ground some and then WALA he has a nice swing. Overall it looks like he smashes it but if you just look at his upper body only he just twists calmly and beautifully bringing his arms way up with a follow through that is pure golf.

This is just genius - I've been taking lessons for years and have never seen any teacher approach the swing in this way. This completely declutters the brain and allows focus on throwing the club toward the target. As mentioned the effort level is controllable - as if you are throwing a bucket or some other item - how far you want to throw is a function of effort, so throwing it a few feet or maxing it out essentially depends on how hard you want to hit the ball (on in this case how far you want to throw the club). When I first saw this video I didn't believe it. So I went to my golf course (late in the evening) and hit two balls on every long shot - one with my regular swing and one with Shawn's throwing technique. In almost every single case the ball not only went longer, it was also much more in line with my target. The key is that this thought process (full controlled backswing to the throwing of the club) basically allows a much more natural swing and corrects many flaws that are built up over time. Simply amazing. Thank you Shawn.

I wouldn't call it a Gentle Swing. I think it's more of a non-hurried swing. Both players are making a nice full shoulder turn and not rushing the downswing. But, the clubhead is accelerating as it is going through the hitting area. So many of us amateurs fall into the trap of trying to hit the ball further by speeding up the whole swing and accelerate too early. Great message from this video. As I am prepping for the golf season here in the northeast I will keep this in mind.

I agree. It's not "gentle" It's *tension free*, with the hands, wrists, arms, especially on the downswing and through the ball. Think Freddie Couples "flow" Most people who can't drive the ball at least 200 yards, are doing the opposite : they get *tighter* with their hands, wrists, arms as they approach the "ball-brick", and actually *slow* down their clubhead The short hitters are equating *effort* with tension applied through the hands, wrists, arms. The golfers in this video, starting with Sean are all making a very strong leg, hip move, which *propels* the soft arms, hands, wrists, and finally the club. Just like a fast baseball pitcher. Her flexibility allows her to generate a lot of clubhead speed at impact with a very relaxed swing style. Think it's time I work on losing weight and adding flexibility to myself. I'd like to lower my effort and still keep a 300yd drive. I used to do that drill swinging from the club head. The sound position tells you where you're fastest speed is at. You want that sound around the ball.

Yes, this seems hard to believe because our brains associate power to effort; here is another testimonial from another student who just went out and tried it: Dear Shawn I have struggled with my driving for 8 years. I could not hit more than 220 yards and have seen many instructors with nothing working. I watched your video gently drive your golf ball 300 yards, went to the practise ground with my children to pick the balls up after my shots and it worked !. Thank you ever so much. I had a chance to try this out and it really helped. I’m a very new golfer but with seemingly good control. I started in may of 2020 and almost immediately figured out how to be pretty straight and get relatively consistent strike. My problem has been speed and distance. This new thought and approach gained me about 10-15 yds in the air on my 8 iron after about 45 mins of practice. Definitely had some off line shots but soon reigned it in and found my line again. I’m excited to try this out with longer irons and of course my woods. I’m just hoping to add enough length so my approach shots are less effortful. Thank you very much and I will be working at this for the next few weeks until I have a chance to play more often. Cheers :)

"Feeling" like you are swinging 50% is absolutely the key, and that's with all clubs on a full shot. You start making beautiful contact and crush it. Once you get that 50% feel down and it feels relaxed, you can start adding a littler speed, but I ALWAYS try to employ that super relaxed 50% swing feel on my full shots.

I didn't have the ability to slow my roll down to 4 out of 10, but I eased everything down to about 60% (as slow as I could go without getting yippy) and I was roping 220 draws right down the middle. After about 20 minutes I was putting on a smoke show. I don't know if this is repeatable, but I am definitely going to start my range practice and pre-round warmups like this and see if I can get to where I was today. Normally I drive around 240 to 260 and I was flying range balls 280 today. At the risk of sounding like a corny KZbin fan-boy, I swear when I got in the groove that it almost felt like I was throwing the club head through the golf ball. The next step will be to add the mustard back in without introducing some of the right block that I'm trying to cure. That aside, this technique does provide distance without extra effort.
@golflessons Жыл бұрын
Right on Darren! You just got your first taste of what happens when the kinetic chain (human reflex action) IS ALLOWED TO ENGAGE! The 2 ennemies of your golf swing are CONTROL AND EFFORT, you take away the control and you realize more speed and get more accuracy and then your brain goes nuts because it associates power to effort and you just took away the effort and got kore power. So be wise and DON’T ADD MORE EFFORT as this will put the wrench into the wheels of the swing; and keep delivering your throw through the ball and into the direction you want to start it. For more clarity, see the following videos in our premium channel: “kinetic chain” series and “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” then “throw the club” and the “throwing series” and then fine tune the set up to allow this to happen even more often to get you completely comfortable and be able to actually PREDICT that it will happen for you with “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series”. The icing on the cake is “target confirmation series” and “stick your finish despite the ball series”

Arnold Palmer said, "Swing your swing...I know, I did." It took me a long time to really absorb what he meant by that. When I did, I realized that he really was the "King of Golf". There are two meanings, one shown here. Golf really is a swing. That is what your students are doing here. Swings can get a long and wide as possible because the swinging action keeps the shaft and club in a true arc. However, the second part of that...the "your swing" part may not be shown here. The only way to know you have "your swing" part of the equation is what I call the "first swing, no warm-up" swing. If you can have a competent swing with a first, no-warmup strike of the ball, then it is natural for you. If you are able to find your ball in the fairway, playing the 18th hole in total darkness, finishing your round of golf at night. Your arc is true to you. It is comfortable you. You are swinging your swing. The demonstration here of hitting off a concrete surface does not show swings made under pressure, off uneven ground, without preferred lies. The long driver champions can't make it on the PGA Tour because only consistency makes cuts regularly. Regularity comes in part from "Swinging your swing" as Arnold Palmer said...and the short game.

Wish I would of learned about this years ago I was always putting too much power into my swings. The other day I hit the green on a 365 yard hole and it was a nice easy swing... I will admit the wind helped carry it some but I'm amazed how much more accurate my drives are
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
Keep allowing to let that trickle in!! We have 2 series on our premium channel called “kinetic chain series” and “kinetic chain engagement series” that you just experienced. I’m very sceptical that it can carry 270 with a 103 club speed. My club head speed can reach 112. 108 speed carry’s 265. Im definitely going to give this “slow swing” a try
@hilife50132 жыл бұрын
You should get on a launch monitor and focus on the spin you're putting on the ball. Thats a game changer. The "slow swing" will have a high percentage of hitting the center with the right positive angle of attack that will have low sping more distance. Think of long drivers in competiton. 202 ball speed but when they have 4k RPM the ball "only" carries 320 and only rolls out to 350. Same ball speed with the correct angle they get 1500 RPM and carry 400 roll out over 450

It can't. Physically impossible to get a smash factor over 1.55. Scrolled until I found a comment that wasn't like by the channel... sims can he faked with various factors such as altitude, wind, and even calibrations. Only truth he tells is that that if you hit it in the middle of the face it'll probably go further but that's not necessarily true either. Just above the the sweet spot is better as it lowers spin. It's a good exercise but the figures claimed here are far, far off
@golflessons2 жыл бұрын
Remember that our angles of attack are way up at 7 to 9 degrees and this lowers the spin rates like crazy so we get max carry and max roll out…

one of the big things you need to understand, to the people watching this video.... the whole point of this is that you want to have the club head being accelerated.... if you try to hit the ball with the club it will cause you to use different muscles in your body, which could be more kind of like hitting a nail with a hammer.... muscling it in there..... there is your power..... however, imagine one of those amusement park swing rides.... they dont muscle you out.... it gently builds up that centripetal or centrifugal (idf remember which is which) and pushes you out..... ok well this is what you want to do with the driver.... you want to use a big range of motion in your body in order to build up that momentum in the club head and that is what will have the club achieve faster speeds in order to hit further.

I have several drivers.. once I figure them out, I tend to wear them out but the same techniques aren't always universal it seems.. I feel like I'm missing a variable, like stiffness, kick-point, ball position etc.. I hope this classic one all fits all technique is the key and foundation I need.. If there weren't so many positive comments here, anyone reading what I'm about to write would probably say that it's a fake one. But here it is anyway. This afternoon, I watched this video and grabbed an old wedge I keep in my apartment. I swung it a few times just like I saw and it felt good. Different. Simple. Natural. I had to go hit balls. So, I jumped in my car and went to the range 20 minutes away. And the very first ball I hit (PW) was "where has this swing been all my life?????" What??? 9, 8, 7 same. I'm 6ft5 and many of my smaller friends outdrive me. My 7 iron usually goes 145m (yes metric. I'm in Mauritius). Today, the green was at 148m and I was hitting old range balls against the wind. With my 7, I was pitching the green, with what felt like no effort at all. In fact whenever I tried to hit it further it didn't feel as good and didn't go as good. Then I deliberately slowed down my backswing and told myself "7 iron, 120m" and boom! 150m at least. If that was with a good ball and no wind, 160m easy. That's 176 yards! My 19 deg hybrid consistently went 200m+. Consistently is the word! Then came the driver. I have rarely hit the driver so sweet with so little effort and so far. Yes, I missed a few, but out of maybe 30 balls, a good 25 down there (fairway for sure if I was playing) and far. My word. I know it will sound cliché but there's no other way to describe this: What you taught me in this video is a complete game changer! I cannot wait to take this out on the course. Thanks a million for this video Shawn. I'll keep you posted on how my first game is on Saturday.🙏 Oh and by the way, I'm 59 years old!

Your tips and advice are SUPER!! The irons work great by setting them on a 45 degree angle and then moving into the proper position. Did it and gained 20 yards per iron and higher/straighter. I play to a 3.6 GHIN handicap and I’m always looking for better results due to better mechanics-you do it all. Now, my question is this: On the driver, do you still set at a 45 degree angle and then move into the position? I tried this and it felt too awkward but still reached the same results as my old way but without effort. So, if I want more distance with less effort, do I maneuver the driver the same as any iron?

@@theworldisastage1984 how about you realise that a video with dialogue is more instructive than a text description?
