How-To! - HO Scale Weathering Demo of Kato P42DC

Part Two of my How-To video for weathering an Amtrak Kato P42DC, #161! If you haven't seen Part One yet, check that out first! Link below. In Part One, I went over the basic steps on how to weather this P42 by Kato. I gave it a very basic, yet detailed weathering throughout. Now, in Part Two, it's all about attention to detail. Some of the things other people might not think to weather when weathering an HO Scale locomotive. We will go over all the steps to take to add detail to your grills, couplers, wheels, and ladders. All of these steps are optional but really make an engine look fantastic running around the layout. If you have any questions or comments, post them in the comments section below. Hey just a little hint i dont know what your access to tamiya acrylics but if you can get a hold of tamiya X-19 smoke this is a very thin mix of a clear black and it acts like a gloss so you can spray it on windows. your probably thinking im crazy but i build plastic models for competions and i use this for my window like f-16 or humvees that have tinted windows this gives a realistic tinted window effect if done right. now since this is a gloss to tamiya-- x is clear and xf is flat this is a clear. so mask around the window or anything around the glass that would be flat or else you will see a gloss on stuff you dont want and spray the glass in light layers but i would do this after you put the flat coat down then peal up the masking tape and add the paint to it but make sure your not to far away with the airbrush this being the paint can dry before it hits and this makes a wave effect so practice with it. and you can also paint it on but with care a steady hand and experence. also if you wanted the windows a little dusy after you make them tinted and take off the tape you can use tamiya xf-buff and mix this 50/50 with 90% rubbing alcohol or for me i use tamiyas thinner for acrylics. and spray a very finer mist very fine and you can add this to the running gear below to act as dust. figured this might help you cause real windows on them are tinted let me know how this works for you. I would have used a dark wash in the recessed panels rather than use a pencil
