I have two different skating coaches and I don't know why neither of them is able to break it down as easily as you do. Thank you for your videos :) I'd hire you as my personal skating coach in a heartbeat!

I like the way you break it down into the basics and emphasise repetition. Leaning inwards in an unstable manner is scary at first. I am though surprised that your head and shoulders face outwards. Everyone who taught me this - basically two hockey coaches - emphasised turning the head and shoulders in the direction of the turn. It makes it much easier, with less speed lost, and on exiting you are already in position to do a crossover to accelerate away. And of course looking where you’re going is not such a bad idea.

Awesome video! My only question is this: in learning how to make tight hockey turns from others, I haven't seen the inward leaning of the knees taught like you do here. Other tutorials and coaches I've met haven't stressed the lean, but it seems like you make effective turns while tilting the knees and legs inward during the turn. Do you think it's easier to make sharp turns with this lean and do you think it's at all dangerous? (say you got hit while turning)

@kingjoker510 Weight would be around the back portion of the skates blade when in the turn (the rocking method can help pick up speed when coming out of the turn).

Thank you for the kind words. I would recommend watching the latest video I uploaded, it covers this subject. Try to let your right foot slide out ahead of your left skate before dropping your weight down into the turn. The latest video will go into more detail on it (tight turns & crossovers on your weak side)

great video, helped me alot on improving my balance with my hockey turns. one question, whould i put most of my weight on my heals when turning? or should i kind of rock from center of blade to my heal.

Hi, I LOVE all your videos I improved a lot with all those instructions. My question is a llittle bit weird but when I do tight turns on my weak side (turning right) I have a very hard time to put my right leg in front. It seems that my legs are staying too close from each other. My feet are staying almost parallel to each other. Is there something I can do to correct that ? Thx

@Thaddeus curry, if u feel like u r going to fall, u r probably leaning into ur turns. Like if ur turning left, then u lean left. Most coaches teach this. What U actually want to do is counterlean. So if ur turning left, lean right so that ur shoulders are square. This will help u maintain balance

Are you supposed to keep the weight more on the ball of your foot or toward the heel?
@StillAliveAndKicking_

Weight is slightly towards the heel, but not too much. Just practice as he demonstrates, but point your head and shoulders in the direction of motion.

at 9:00 to 9:20, it looks like you're afraid to crossover step out of your own tight turn going to the right. i'm not hating, but i'm assuming your left side is strong side?

@BlobIslandGame You're either in the wrong frame of mind for that (embarrassment), or in the wrong rink. On ice, when people fall, most people are concerned for the fallen, not amused by it. Falling IS hazardous and is usually not seen as a something to be made fun of. Try the moves in the center (play zone) of the rink, not in traffic. Lastly, if you're not falling (or almost), then you're not trying. Take it slow and keep at it.

Not right. Body must be turned inside turn! His shoulders outside - that's wrong! You must work with the balance of weight .
