Thanks for this! You're the only female banjo player I've been able to find talking about banjo position, and brave enough to mention anatomy. I'm a new banjo player (guitarist for 50 years) and am having difficulty holding my banjo comfortably because of large, er, anatomies :). I shall go out and purchase a strap tomorrow!

Many years ago I surfed Oceanside where your shirt is from. I grew up 20 miles south of there. Your banjo talk has been so helpful for me as I'm a beginner and and just received a smaller banjo as payment for work. A silver princess model. The neck is kind of thin,, but I hope to master it. thanks.

Thank you! The strap suggestion is what I was looking for! The videos I had found prior to this suggested a higher placement above the neck, which just had the banjo sliding down with the weight of the neck.

Fun fact: "The military found many uses for duct tape. One of its earliest applications was to hold ammunition boxes together. For this reason, soldiers referred to it as "gun tape." The Air Force found other uses for the product and duct tape was used to cover gun ports on planes to cut down the air friction during take off. Like many other military products, duct tape was originally colored olive green, but after the war it was changed to the more familiar silver color. " I would say it's "battle tested"....and thanks for those banjo basics. Sometimes we forget to revisit things again. I was also watching your babies in the window! I have a 5 year old yellow Lab that likes to rest her head on things just like that! Cheers y'all.

Little Sister! Learning while LMAO! You never fail to educate and entertain - and vice versa in equal doses! You da Minnie Pearl of KZbin! Where'd you get that Oceanside T-shirt? Are you a Marine brat? Semper Fi! Not only did duct tape hold ammo mags together to speed up reloading (although the extra weight could make a round jam in the chamber) but the tape held dogtags together to keep from clanking at the worst times. Fifty-four years later, I still have those dogtags with the original duct tape still holding them together. In the words of Bob Hope, "Thanks for the memories!"

We don't need straps for classical guitars for it to be stable. Yes right hand, thigh and body these three anchors are needed. Why can't something like that be applied to banjo. I clicked a like on your video because I learnt that with a strap a banjo may be made stable. But it still can slide and it needs an extra thing. I think there are better methods.
@BanjoLemonade4 жыл бұрын
Well you can absolutely play it without a strap, I do all the time. I have neck issues. But getting that upright neck is important and a lot of beginners don’t realize that. But the body on a classical guitar fits perfectly on your leg with that cutout, where a banjo is round. Some put it between their legs, and that can help, but then the fretboard is moved farther away. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, the more you play the more you will find your own position that you like using. Thanks for the Like and commenting.
