Hi Manvir, I've played the khol (mridanga) for a while and for street parades I want to get a dhol. Could you recommend me an online shop to buy a good quality one from? Thank you for the tutorial
@yashkummar4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gurpreet and Manvir. Now I know how to hold the tilli correctly. I was wondering why I was loosing my grip. Guess playing like Garba Dhol instead. Thanks once again. Make sense and explained clearly. Cheers.

@realvanillahair3 жыл бұрын

Excellent video. Could have used this 2 years ago. Still the only video to properly show this. One thing missed. When playing dugga closed the grip changes to holding the Dugga tight... right?
@ManvirHothi7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! When playing closed, I pretty much make a make a fist - 'tight' can be another way of putting it. Essentially what you're looking to do is prevent the bass skin from resonating

Hello Manvir, I want to buy a dhol for my 11 year old son to play. We are in the USA, any tips where and what I should be looking for? So far I have seen some on Ebay but no idea which to choose.
@ManvirHothi4 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Depending on where you are located in the USA, your best bet is to find a local dhol player and purchase a dhol that's second hand. In Canada, I haven't seen any retailers that sell any quality dhols, I've always grabbed mine from India or through someone that put in a order from India. If you're just looking for something beginner that doesn't break the bank, you can start with an "amb" dhol, which is made of wood from the mango tree. If it helps, post the link to the dhol that you would like to purchase here, and I can take a second look at it

Is it essential to hold tilli with the right hand?
@ManvirHothi5 жыл бұрын
Hey Inderjeet, thanks for the comment. No, it is not essentially to hold the tilli with your right hand. You want to hold the tilli with your dominant hand. I am right handed, for that reason, I hold it with the right. You can choose whatever works for you best but I would recommend using your dominant hand because you'll have more control in the long run

Hi thank you for lesson how to I keep hold of the grip keeps falling the treble side
@ManvirHothi4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lj, you need to strengthen you adductor pollicis. It's the muscle between the thumb and the index finger. I use a grip strength devices, and heavier tillian when I play but with more practice in general, you'll see reduction in the tilli sliding down
