What other questions do you have about homeschooling in high school? I want to make sure I cover them in my next two videos.

Rubrics are really good for grading high school projects; I agree.

Yes! It would be so arbitrary otherwise.

I have heard that too from advisors. All As look bad. They also mention that since they give a placement test the grades are looked at lighter. Love the rubric idea.

The rubric provides a standard so the grading isn’t subjective for papers, etc. I don’t know how people do it without them!

I have been grading Bailey since 1st grade. It is only on tests in Math, Spelling, Bible, Grammar, and Language Root Words. Great video! I love the rubric grading idea and how you weight them.

I remember rubrics being so helpful in my AP classes in HS I can def see how they're helpful for grading homeschool students! I know you do so much different content but I have to say the homeschool content is my favorite because I feel like I can learn so much from you!

In PA we have to test in 3rd and 8th grade for the state. I like that you said you started grading earlier - that way she was used to it and it was a motivator.

This is incredibly helpful! Thank you! We are starting high school in the fall and I have been so stressed about the grading. I was wondering if you could share your rubric for TGTB History for high school. I’ve been really stumped about that one. 🥴
@simplejoyfilledliving3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We didn’t use TG&TB fir history as the main text because there was no easy way to grade. Instead we used Master Books for American and World History because it has tests and quizzes. I pulled relevant projects from TG&TB student explorers for grades 10-12 as honors projects, and since we all love TG&TB history, we read the lessons during our morning time.

Thank you so much!! I’ve actually been leaning towards Masterbooks anyway!

I’m new to homeschooling my 8th grader and it’s been a struggle. We pulled him out of public school earlier this semester (Spring 2021) and I think I’m getting my bearings. I would appreciate any prayers you could send my way.
@simplejoyfilledliving3 жыл бұрын
Praying for you now. I don’t have boys but I know from friends that homeschool boys that it can be hard, especially in the late middle school/early high school years (compared to homeschooling girls). My best advice would be to pick 2-3 choices for curriculum and give him the final say from options that you have pre-approved. Pray that the Lord will grant you wisdom to know how best to proceed. ❤️

Have you (or anyone reading this) used IEW with TGTB language arts? This is what I keep thinking I want my daughter to do next year for 9th grade. (She used IEW all the way up to this year while she was in private school, and used Writing With Skill this year).
@simplejoyfilledliving3 жыл бұрын
We have not. But TG&TB is very much like IEW style writing. My daughter didn’t need both. TG&TB was very familiar after using IEW.

Question: Why was the grading rubric for the example from G&B not adding up to 100%? I noticed that the most amount of points you could get would be 50 points. Why is that? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, I am learning how to do grades for the very first time.
@simplejoyfilledliving3 жыл бұрын
The reason is that they are weighting the grades. So the tests usually add up to 100, while their essays within the unit would be 50, and the unit itself would be 200-250 depending on the unit. I hope that helps.

How do you grade science? Thank you for a great video🌸
@simplejoyfilledliving3 жыл бұрын
For all high school classes I can set up grading in Homeschool Planet. I do weighted grading so I decide how much each thing will be worth. I usually use quizzes, tests, labs, and papers or projects and then assign a weighting to them like 40% tests, 20% quizzes, 20% labs, 20% papers/projects. Then I enter grades as the assignments are completed.
