You mention that when you disconnect, the brakes lock up. But you actually do not show how to hook up, which could be presumed to simply reverse the unhook procedure. Is there a step in the hookup procedure that unlocks the brakes or do the brakes automatically unlock when you hook back up?

Yes they automatically release once you hook back up
