Yves Tan search the Marketplace for "LAMP certified by Bitnami", they include SSL auto-configuration. Alternatively maybe try to set it up with Cloudflare.

Thank You! This is by far the easiest Google Cloud Platform/WordPress hosting tutorial. It took me 10 minutes and done, the site is up and pointed to my domain. If you are using Google Domains and need to link your Domain to the IP just go to "Website -> Forward to an existing webpage -> Enter IP in the Website URL field -> click Forward".

Very useful and clear to follow. I have gotten my website running in no time. That's awesome! Just a small share for my situation: 1) I have registered my domain via Cloudflare with full SSL on. With A record pointing to the static IP that this tutorial taught; CNAME for www to yourdomain.com 2) I have not using Let's encrypt SSL function while first entering the SSH. (Because Cloudflare did it for me). 3) I am using putty to logon my SSH (related instruction that you can easily find on GCP related resources)

Set the instance IP address into domain DNS as A records and then simply reset the instance from your GCP and login to ssh again where you'll be welcome by the questions such as enter your domain name, do you want to issue SSL certificate and all...

To help with RAM Usage, how did you shift+enter to write a new line of code without it executing? Every attempt at trying to go to the next line when typing in sudo fallocate -1 1G /swapfile ends up executing with an error saying fallocate: invalid option -- '1'

Just stopped after clicking "Create" on "VIM Instance" (1:27). After that I noticed on the right handside it said: "$24.67 monthly estimate". Not sure what they base the estimate on, but somehow I doubt this amazing service will be "free", at least for very long :) Have a great day.

Don't mind the $ amount, that's based on preconfigured option. Once you proceed you'll get to select VM instance again and the price will adjust accordingly. There are always free tier for Cloud services (not just Google) If your website is successful enough you'll have to upgrade to paid plan eventually (which is good for both you and Google) But if not, this means you're using only handful resource which is acceptable for them as their marketing cost.

you'll need to register one with domain registrar like name.com, google domain, etc. then update dns setting (on their website) to point your domain to your VM IP address. but it's not going to be free this time.

the price for vm instance is fixed at monthly rate for sustained use. so the only variable cost is the network which is very cheap unless you have millions monthly visitors and do not cache content. storage isn't free but free tier quota should be adequate for small/medium websites. (i'm talking about blogs/ static website only) moreover, you'll have $300 free credit and 1 year time to try out. look at the bill and see what's the issue. if it doesn't work for you then you can move out

Try to set up Cloudflare. It slows the site down marginally, but it's the best protection against DDOS attacks and has loads of other features.

I can’t get it to work. Your tutorial is a bit too advanced for a non technical WP user. For example at 0:05:02 when you say; update the DNS setting to point to the VM instance IP address, I don’t know how to do that :( would be nice to have a tutorial on that too

I can't make a tutorial on that because it depends on which domain registrar you're using. (ex. namecheap googledomain godaddy etc.) please refer to their tutorial instead :) simply put. this step is to tell the internet that your www.yourdomain.com is at VM's ip address

It's still free if you fully use your VM 24/7. Quote from free tier doc: "Google Cloud Free Tier is also available for external IP addresses that are being used by VM instances. In-use external IP addresses are available without additional cost until you have used a number of hours equal to the total hours in the current month. Usage calculations are combined across all in-use external IP addresses. Google Cloud Free Tier for in-use external IP addresses applies to all instance types, not just f1-micro instances." The external IP was charged on my usage bill but then was deducted under "Spending based discounts"
