Ehh for being a resident of NM and as someone who has put in every year since I turned 18, I've seen you get more hunts in NM that ive drawn🤟

I signed up with gohunt last night. I wish I would have done this sooner. Wow, it makes figuring out where and what your options are so readily apparent. I'm sold.

I’ve drawn in NM once (mule deer), it was such a fun and cool experience for my first western hunt! And the result was delicious 😋. My app is in for NM elk and pronghorn this time. Tough draw odds, but I remain hopeful 🤞🏼🤞🏼 Good luck to everyone this draw season!

I’m 70 years old, never shot an Elk, sounds like I should go with an outfitter to have a good chance to hunt NM.

Thanks for sharing as always, have been watching these application season videos. The biggest hindrance for me in New Mexico you outlined here. The 6% makes it a tough draw, especially when one has to upfront the tag cost. The license cost isn't bad compared to other states ($50-$100 less), but I wouldn't be able to afford to apply for more than one or two species there per year. Then having to wait 4-5 weeks to find out is tough. My goal is to hunt pronghorn in every state DIY style that I can, no matter the weapon type. NM is definitely on my list and from what I've heard there can be some big bucks there. Thanks for the heads-up on the short seasons. From my Pronghorn State Ranking thread on HuntTalk it's advisable to apply every year that I can or save money up to purchase the Landowner or Unit Wide tag, however much that is. If I remember correctly the past three sweepstakes winners chose New Mexico.

They did prompt me last year when I tried to apply for a deer tag with only 10 permits, a pop up appeared and said I was trying to apply for a tag I wasn't likely to draw or something like that.

Hey Randy I am 62 years old and never hunted out of Texas. My dream is to once Elk hunt. I watched your video on the New Mexico and had a question about the three pics of the hunts. I understood you have to up front the elk tag but do you have to pay up front for all three pics? Just looking for advice on how to get started. Do you know of any group or organization that would from out of Houston Texas that would hunt in groups in other states? I have saved for years to make a hunt like this but this is all new to me. I'm kind of in the dark on a lot of this stuff especially computer but am trying. I cant imagine what it would be like next to one of these bulls. Thank You for your time. Respectfully Jimmy Lankford

Does it increase odds for a non-resident to attach to a group with the primary applicant being a resident? (Draw groups of 4 for Elk/Deer/Pronghorn... example.... Resident, Resident, Resident, Non-Resident... or Resident, Resident, Non-Resident, Non-Resident). If the Primary is a resident, would it increase the odds adding the non-residents to the 84% pool? Or decrease the odds by adding non-residents to the group? It's a bit late for this year but next year if you'd like to test it I'll provide you with the application # and attach code to try for a camera guy!

Still watching randy after 6 years. I'm a Virginia resident. But new mexico is now impossible for almost any draw, and wyoming now soon to be too expensive. Sad future for elk hunting going forward.
@TheWVgoodguy223 жыл бұрын
Same here. Well 5 years and I am from West Virginia. I saw what was proposed in Wyoming. I have wanted to do a combination hunt for mule deer 🦌 and pronghorn. Currently the tags would cost me $784, but with the proposed price increase would cost me $1260. :(

Gohunt says for example as a non resident in unit 40 mule deer rifle I have a 50 percent chance to draw but only shows 2 tags issued. You’re saying unless there are 13 tags I don’t have a chance. What am I missing here?

My apps are in. MD and Elk was $1130.00. Fingers crossed.

So as a non-resident it's simply a luck of the draw each year? No way to increase the odds by points, etc.? Just wanting to clarify because I'll be in another state this year and it won't make sense to apply if I don't have the time to get there if successful.

Draw odds for residents of nm aren’t that great either so don’t complain about allocation
@boggstucson54153 жыл бұрын
And, if I recall, the outfitters snap up most land owner tags every year. So, if you want a chance to hunt in NM, you are often compelled to pay inflated fees to hire an outfitter. Since NM guides sued Arizona for better access and made a mess of the draw for AZ residents, I have little desire to support them...

Can Anyone explain to me Why this is So Expensive? Im being honest not trolling, i’m new here.
@jonathonmcmillan94103 жыл бұрын
First off, you get the draw application money back if you don't draw (as a native New Mexican, I'm tired of getting my application fees returned and would rather just get to hunt, but that doesn't happen more then every few years). Second, NM is a poor state that will bilk every dollar they can from any place they perceive there's money and demand. This includes high business taxes, massive oil revenues (when they aren't busy killing the oil producers), and out of state hunters. Except the film industry. They get a pass.
@Huntnlady73 жыл бұрын
DGF wants to make money. All states do this. It is a resource, and the government exploits it. That being said, totally worth it. If you don't try, you'll never draw. If you don't draw and go, you'll never experience it.

Its fraud if they allow a nonresident to apply to a zone that there is no way they could get drawed as you said any unit under 13 slots. That should be looked into.
