You need to shake the hydro dipped object a little to get off any excess paint and it should cover the ‘not covered’ bit

I did that to my guitar in the Summer. You get better swirls if you add borax ( the cleaning power) into the water, I used little oil base paints that come in small containers, the type they used to paint small model cars. Wirls with a piece of newspaper. I bought the oil paint on eBay from Japan for $10 a set of colors. You can only do it once so try with something first to get a feel of it. Look at how to guitar swirl paint.

You have to spray it in quickly because you are taking to long and it drys so it just clumps on on the boots
