Well they said 1 in 25, to date 67,194 people have viewed this, so say each view was a different person. 67,194/25 = 2688. So... 2688 would be sociopaths. To think that most people who are sociopaths would have an higher interest in this video would also mean, they would be most likely to comment. So it is highly probable that they really are sociopaths.
@FuKItM4n8 жыл бұрын
edi I really agree and like your post, however the 5 who would die for their comrades or ideals would be insane by definition. Going against the primal desire to survive or protect oneself. Also under that condition you could also include the 50% who do nothing, and just die. Making that 55% of those people, by definition insane. IF that is the case, It would make the majority of people insane by definition, making the lesser majority sane. So therefore being insane, is being like everyone else and being sane is not like being everyone else...So final point is. IF most people are insane, what is true sanity?

Unfortunately I am a sociopath. But there are different levels of this. The type described here is more the aggressive type. They best way to describe it is the weasel family. Common Sociopaths are able to feel a little bit of emotion. Not much but also very rarely hostile. We're like the simple Ferret. Aggressive mostly over targets. Usually gets along with others. Then you have the weasel. The slightly more aggressive sociopath. They only get nasty when they want to. But nonetheless stay watchful. Then you have the Honey Badger. This guy is aggressive. He'll take down whatever gets in his way. Just hope you're in the way though. Because what he has planned for his target is nothing fun.

I have to ask, since i have not talked with another fuctional sociopath before (i was diagnosed at age 14). In the beginning, i attempted to explain my view of the world to others, but they never seemed to understand, they all thought i was just trying to be a "tough guy". So i decided to just hide my true self (since noone would understand it, and clearly i would never be accepted that way) So i just smile to everyone, just being that "happy guy" because that seems to be the best way to interact with humans. It does become lonely, to see the world for what it is, not being hindered by emotions having to hide your true self away. I have given myself a high moral code to prevent my sociopathic self to take too much control: Be honourable and honest, and it works. Have you experienced the same?
@tyrant11788 жыл бұрын
sahanii Honestly, I have never found an easy way explain to other what it's like. What it's like to have a lack of emotion but to still feel it in some way. I love my daughter. But I don't love her mother even though we have been together for 9 years. It's just hard without them seeing it first hand. I find it a blessing and a curse. But never give in just because someone doesn't understand.

Although your comment may be slightly true these characteristics vary slightly depending upon the individual. I have been diagnosed with APD. The doctors and my DBT Therapist thinks it was caused by traumatic experiences. I understand I’m different than people in many ways and I understand what’s right and wrong from being told by people but I don’t have a “ moral compass” my therapist calls it. It does get frustrating sometimes because I have certain urges that aren’t filled. I don’t get enjoyment from roller coasters, sex, or any of that nature. My heart rate doesn’t change when I almost crash in to another car occasionally. Just like I said I’m in DBT and getting “ treatment” even though I don’t really see a big problem. In the past I’ve used anything to make me feel something. I’ve gotten in fights, destroyed property, and have used substances. I’m still the same but have stopped doing the substances because some of them made the problems worse. Anyway that’s my 2 cents in on this subject. It’s not fun all the time but anything dangerous or any manipulative action is a thrill for me.

@@CritterDex I'm sorry that is medically incorrect. What you mention is not based in clinical fact. Apart from what I've learned about the subject, I have a couple of male ASPD friends. One of a milder more pro social level and one much more anti social but both high functioning. Psychopathy was the earliest term used and it was felt to be derogatory and so the term sociopathy was devised post which for political correctness Anti social personality disorder was the accepted and decided final terminology. And that's what holds today. Psycho-path means "sad soul". I'm aware of the nuances in severity of the condition depending on how many traits a person has between 0-40 on the Hare's checklist. So severity goes from 0-4 for average neuro typical people and then 4-20 for people who show more traits and are diagnosed as subclinical ASPDs and then those between 20-40 who get definitively diagnosed as ASPD and severity based on their score. Also an ASPD person can have mid 30s scores in youth and be a mid level criminal and then after they serve time and come out and get to an age of 50+ their scores can reflect lower around early 30s. I have done a lot of research and read up on it from leading psychologists. I do understand most people who are ASPD find the violent criminal stigma a problem and they often aren't that way at all. As I said I have friends who have it as well and have seen it in real life. I know in fact my more pro social friend feels for innocents and children while my less pro social friend feels less for most except his own children and even then he can only be called a neglectful father. I even knew an ASPD female colleague but realised years later in hindsight after she had ended contact with all of us. Partners of people with higher levels of ASPD feel abused, while with lower levels it's not so much a problem if you let them have their space. Anyway to reiterate both terms mean the same thing the only hierarchy is the score and whether a person is low or high functioning.

sociopathy An earlier term for what is now called ANTISOCIAL PERSONALITY DISORDER antisocial [an″te-, an″ti-so´shal] 1. denoting behavior that violates the rights of others, societal mores, or the law.2. denoting the specific personality traits seen in antisocial personality disorder.antisocial personality disorder a personality disorder characterized by a conspicuous disregard for the rights and needs of others. Antisocial behavior begins before the age of 15 and includes such behaviors as truancy, delinquency, theft, and vandalism. Adults with this disorder show a lack of maturity, unwillingness to take responsibility, and emotional instability. The chief characteristic of such persons is an apparent lack of conscience. Their behavior includes a variety of antisocial and criminal acts, such as theft, engaging in an illegal occupation (for example, selling drugs), repeated defaulting on debts, sexual promiscuity, and repeated lying. In addition, an antisocial personality is often impulsive and aggressive and is unable to maintain consistent, responsible functioning at work, at school, or as a parent. Substance abuse is common. As in other personality disorders, individuals with antisocial personality disorders refuse to admit to any problems. A patient who is a criminal may honestly believe that anyone who is not a criminal is merely stupid. Those with antisocial personalities often seem to be unable to learn from experience. They also are seldom willing to accept psychiatric help and when they do agree to consult a mental health professional, it is often only to avoid the legal consequences of their activity. It's Antisocial personality disorders and both psychopathy and sociopathy are listed as separate under it in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. If it was the exact same thing I don't think they would bother do that. Sociopaths and psychopath share lots of traits but there is a difference. Here's two articles I got from the database from my school's library explaining the difference: Dinwiddie, S. H. (2015). This issue: Psychopathy versus sociopathy. Psychiatric Annals, 45(4), 165-166. doi:dx.doi.org.ezproxylocal.library.nova.edu/10.3928/00485713-20150401-03 Pemment, J. (2013). Psychopathy versus sociopathy: Why the distinction has become crucial. Aggression and Violent Behavior, 18(5), 458. Retrieved from search.proquest.com.ezproxylocal.library.nova.edu/docview/1426848469?accountid=6579 If you can't access them because you need to pay look up the difference yourself on google you'll find lots of stuff.
@xxAntiOtakuxx8 жыл бұрын
Both these articles are not formal as of yet. They are currently redefining the terms. "The terms psychopath and sociopath are often used interchangeably, but there appears to be some hesitance by researchers in the many disciplines comprising criminology to continue this trend. " "terms such as “sociopathy” or “Antisocial Personality Disorder” (ASPD), the concept of psychopathy has been making a comeback. " "However, according to the latest edition of the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), sociopathy, psychopathy, and ASPD all seem to refer to the same condition: The essential feature of antisocial personality disorder is a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood. This pattern has also been referred to as psychopathy, sociopathy, or dissocial personality disorder" -American Psychiatric Association. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. 5th ed. Washington, DC: American Psychiatric Association; 2013 Psychopathy and sociopathy are mearly different points on the same spectrum of the Antisocial Personality Disorder, and can be viewed similarly to the autism spectrum and narcissistic spectrum.
@jw86288 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a spectrum. That was the point of my first comment. Just like with autism you wouldn't describe someone with Asperger's using the most extreme cases of autism as examples I feel like the video was very misleading and didn't put in the right nuance making it sound like sociopath = psychopath, which is not true.
@xxAntiOtakuxx8 жыл бұрын
But even the experts admit that the characteristics overlap. Someone may show strong signs of sociopathy but have one or two traits of psychopathy or vice-versa, and I think that this needs to be taken into account when viewing the video. If someone shows some of these signs even if they are traits inherent in psychopathy can also be used to help define a sociopath apart from say a autistic who also lack empathy.

While this video mostly uses the term “sociopath” it blends the characteristics of psychopaths and sociopaths without discussing the important differences. For example, it discusses childhood trauma and juvenile delinquency without mentioning that one is more prevalent with sociopaths while the other is an indication the person may be a psychopath. The video also fails to mention that sociopaths are typically more impulsive, and thus often have more legal troubles and/or difficulties maintaining employment than the psychopath. The video also mentions brain scans but does not say that the psychopath is more likely to register differently from neuro-typical people than the sociopath.

An important thing to remember about psychopaths and sociopaths is that they are not all monsters who are a danger to society. Discerning the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath is hard enough for professionals, the only reason to make a vid like this is the stir up the commenters 🤣. I agree with some that this sounds more like how I've heard psychopaths described and that psychopaths tend to be born and sociopaths made. But since I'm no professional, I'm commenting based on whatever I've heard most often. How do I know there aren't better sources out there since I can't swear what my original sources are? Kinda frustrating, isn't it?

Granted promiscuity isn't exclusive to sociopaths but his high neccesity to emphasize himself, and a rather high view of himself does tend to imply he is one, not including his tendency to lie. Now hillary also lies but hers are more obvious than trump, and she does exhibit various trait of someone who tries to lie but fails at it. trump lies like its a second nature without any hesitation, and his view of women as only object to be desired implies he really is a sociopath.

RhodesWC. If 1 in 5 (20%) of the population has the genetic predisposition then there is an advantage to us as a whole (likely). Not all are bad guys, some situations can benefit from an ethical unemotional individual. We just need to cut back on severe crippling child abuse so these people can become beneficial.
@MrAeneas6 жыл бұрын
My experience and observations convince me it is genetic, with the exception that normal people can be turned into "functional" psychos by circumstances. (But, while normals can be turned psycho, psychos can't be turned to normal). In a less regimented and heavily overseen society, the community or tribe can deal with psychos by informal democratic means - Like taking them on a hunting trip and killing them. In our kind of total government surveillance and control society, the psychos are safe to do their damage, only being stopped if they go too far and get caught, and don't have a get-out-of-jail card. We're screwed since psychos have the advantage in gaining power, making money, evading responsibility, etc. So if they are allowed to breed, their kind will destroy society, maybe the world. May I suggest a fairly recent Dutch film, "Borgman"? Also one called, "Brief Encounter."

I understand living to fight another day, but if you're not gonna live then why give them the satisfaction. I've got empathy for anyone who is willing to stand up for themselves(you're willing, but I can't burn bridges quick enough with people who won't do anything about the problems they welcome into their own life.

@michaelhughart49094 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Sociopaths have selective empathy. that's what he was referring to when he said the switch can be turned on and off but it is usually off. Sometimes I have to manipulate the people I want to stay in my life because their existence by my side fills me. There are particular individuals who I prefer to be around in comparison to others. I lost my best friend. After so many years of her boyfriends telling her my odd behaviors, and her not listening, and me telling her that they were crazy for thinking that, she finally understood when I accidentally let it slip. Sociopaths will not ALWAYS try to destroy you..... But they very well may gaslight you so badly that if you were ever to find out their true nature, that in itself would destroy your trust when that was never their original intention.
@michaelhughart49094 жыл бұрын
@KellarJS theres no for sure trait within all ASPD that says they will never recognize who they are. I realize how they are made. And ive gone through much of it. Machiavellianism seems too dark-narcissistic for me. Although i will do things to achieve my goals, so will any ASPD. Im simply an opportunist at heart. But at times, it's necessary to ignore the opportunistic side of you and focus on larger matters. simply to me right now my largest goal in life is staying stable because I have lived my entire life impulsively and still do. Although if anything my violent thoughts have gotten worse because of my attempts to be "sane" There is much in depth to sociopathy, which also can be comorbid with Borderline PD. Sociopathy is a very intriguing PD.
@michaelhughart49094 жыл бұрын
@KellarJS the fact that you mention them having no empathy and all that is not cool. That in itself seems odd to me. I could care less if I'm sociopathic or not. If anything, it gives an advantage. Other than the intense boredom that leads to impulsive behavior

Sociopaths go for any profession that gives them power over others. Typically that means business, politics, and law enforcement but they've also been known to go into medical fields because doctors have power over you and are generally trusted. Over all, they excel in business most of all with a high percentage of business leaders blatantly showing sociopathic tendencies. This is because our economic system openly rewards people who will do anything to increase profits and since sociopaths feel nothing for customers, employees, or anyone else victimized by their actions they make for the.... "best" business leaders.

NOT TRUE. Sociopaths and psychopaths are actually the exact same thing. The difference is that psychopaths are born that way. It is in their nature from the first day they enter this world to the last. They can have shtty or the most loving parents in the world - they can have the worst or best childhood - it doesn't matter - they will always be the way they are. Sociopaths are made - they are born mentally and emotionally normal, but become that way from childhood abuse, neglect or trauma. Plenty of people who had absolutely horrific childhoods do not become sociopaths though ... it really comes down to a combination of pre-risk from genetics and natural temperament/coping abilities.

You make all sociopaths look like criminals, bad people and generally someone you don't want to stick with. Not all are drunk sexual deviants who cheat and hurt at daily basis. Not all enjoys and/or practice such activities. There are some who simply turned out to be like this and now have to live with it independent of anything else. People who make use of some of what you said because they simply don't know what else to do but still excruciatingly try to be better. For someone as intelligent as you seem to be you can also set the tone in your videos and this one is the first I have to digress. It is obviously one-sided, talking about a psychological condition like it is something people choose to have while ignoring the fact it is derived from bad experiences. And you, yourself told us that. Yet, you went at it so quick and made sure to show how "Dangerous" sociopaths are that one can only conclude you disregard the fact many had a terrible childhood, potentially came from already problematic families or simply by chance ended with this anomaly. I'm one and am far from trying to defend them all or start any SJW crap simply am stating a point any reasonable person has to agree. Hope you @TopTenz can understand it and everyone who reads this too. He lies often, has a rather disturbing stare (just watch his reaction to his celebrity roasting), is clearly narcissistic, shows emotional immaturity, and seems to look down on groups of people. Still...he's unusually honest about these things. Most sociopaths make an effort to seem compassionate and understanding.

Thank you. I usually make an effort to not be a piece of shit because I've experienced shitty people first hand growing up and don't want to be like them. However empathy is more or less a choice for me.
This explains why I'm still single. Women love sociopaths!

A lot of people dont know what the heck they are talking about. You wouldnt understand what a sociopath really is unless you are one. A sociopath can recognize that he or she is a sociopath, they arent dumb, they can think for themselves you know. A sociopath is just a regular human being with their emotions all distorted. A sociopath is created through trauma as a child or young teenager(there has been some studies that some genetics abnormalities are involved), their brains develop differently than that of a normal person. The brain goes into survival mode during trauma, shutting off certain emotions at will to shield you from danger, the brain will turn off one emotion and turn another one on full blast. For example, if a person was abused as a child, your brain would go into survival mode, it will turn off empathy and turn up the rage emotion, to survive the abuse, and as time goes on, your brain stays this way. Empathy, they have it, but it is very weak, something like rage, they have it, and its very strong, this is why they get into trouble, because of their uncontrollable impulsiveness do to rage. Dont think a psychopath and sociopath are the same, while they do carry some of the same traits, they are different from each other. A psychopath has no conscience, while a sociopath actually does have a conscience, but it is very weak. Something like stealing, a sociopath knows its wrong, but does it anyways, because the ends justifies the means. Also, not all sociopaths are the same, just like normal humans arent all the same. They all have their own interest, fears, worries, joy, happiness, in fact, sociopaths are closer to regular humans than they are to psychopaths. A sociopath is curable(very hard though), unlike a psychopath.

No some are but most are simply born that way. Their brain is wired differently.
@NoCoIntelPro6 жыл бұрын
@@harrymcnicholas9468 that is the distinction between the psychopath and sociopath. The psychopath is born without a conscience.

Everything you said sounds to be truth except that they don't feel joy and happiness like normal ppl. They don't have true hobbies or interests. At least my mom doesn't. Sure she smiles and laughs but that isn't joy and happiness.
