Hot damn, hopefully my 1920 house doesn't have asbestos plaster.

Get a professional to inspect before remodeling. It’s worth your life to spend the money to vet it out first

How to identify: you can’t. Misleading title.

Everyone keeps telling me you can't tell the difference unless you're an expert. I'm like, "But I'm an amateur scientist and I have a polarizing light microscope!" "I know what asbestos fibers look like" they say "nope, you can't tell". Well I ask you then, why does every single photo of asbestos drywall look SO DIFFERENT FROM GYPSUM THEN??

Why do you have to get it tested cant you see it?
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH2 жыл бұрын
First: Thanks for the informative post! Asbestos fibers are usually so thin that you can hardly see them with the naked eye. And when you do detect fibers, they can be anything. We are skeptical about this "detectability", as well as about rapid tests. These are also hardly recognized by any disposal company. If you really want to be sure, you should have a small sample of the material in question tested in a laboratory. Only then can you really be sure. Stay healthy!

@@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH Do old fiberglass insulation contain asbestos?
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH2 жыл бұрын
@@standforhumanitariancauses4756 The WHO (World Health Organization) classifies these fibers as carcinogenic because of their lung penetrability and special geometry. The human lungs cannot break down or excrete WHO fibers, or can do so only poorly. Therefore, glass wool with certain fiber sizes increases the risk of lung cancer in particular. Older glass wool may also contain asbestos, here you can only be sure with the help of a professional analysis.

@@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH According to the EPA Wool insulation is not carcinogenic. It's classified as 3. And many other sites states that wool insulations don't contain asbestos. I'm confused.

@@standforhumanitariancauses4756 Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to reconstruct which building material was used in each building. So in order to create certainty and thus safety in handling, therefore, only a test by a certified laboratory can actually provide help

It is actually not likely that drywall installed after 1980 will have asbestos, but it could. The drywall, tape, and joint compound in the wall should be sampled and tested by a professional AHERA Accredited Asbestos Building Inspector or a Certified Professional if your state requires certified individuals take samples. Have a NVLAP accredited lab complete the analysis.
