HOW TO IDENTIFY DIFFERENT TYPES OF RANCHU

For the sake of conversation, goldfish fanatic commenting :) Love this show and the energy! I'd like to say the following: Ranchus are not devided by colors, but by wen type or specific regions and each of these are then bred/ favored in certain colors. For example, shapewise Chinese Ranchu are bred differently than Thai ranchu, circular, and Japanese Ranchu are more elongated. Also, Ranchu wen like any other wen is devided in sections- crown, gillplates, cheeks and beard (under head), some Ranchu variants have varying amounts of a section depending on region or breeding style. Lionchus are called that way because they're Ranchus crossed with the Lionhead breed, yes. It's thanks to the Lionhead that the Lionchu have big wens. The breed is known to sport more wen than any other goldfish breed, and some Orandas sport this Lionhead wen- type also (if bred in ofcourse). I'm so glad you explained the Lionchu the way you did. The "hybrid/ Dragonhead Ranchu" you have up there was represented wrong. The term 'Dragonhead' is for any goldfish type featuring both telescope eyes and a wen. Dragonheads can be bred in Ranchu, Orandas and Hamanishiki goldfish. Any Ranchu cross is automatically a hybrid. The cow ranchu is a new Nacreous family color created (Calico, Sakura, Kirin, Cow), just like a Sakura where certain colors are bred out. Calico is not tri-color nor is tri-color even a real thing. Calico (Nacreous scale) were ages ago called '5 color fish- yellow, red, blue, white, black. In Sakura the blue and black is removed (red and white remain) and in Cow the red, yellow and blue is removed, in Tiger only the black and red should remain. The power of nacreous colors. The reason for creating is to develop more new fish with a stable white-black pattern, or red-black for marketing. Too often what you get is a red, red-white, white, orange base colored fish of metallic type shedding their black baby coat slowly, very unstable.

Thank you for this very helpful info. :) what's the size of your ranchu tank? I have 35 gallon tank,i have 2 ranchus, planning to get 4 more. Kaya po ba in terms of swimming space? Masipag po ako mag water change. Sump and sponge filter po gamit.

Yes po. kaya po yan basta masipag sa water change for fresh supply of water daily. Pero if gusto nyo po talaga lumaki mga ranchus sa full potential, sa 35 gallon, recommended po dalawa.
