Hi ya! A new subscriber here from the UK. 🇬🇧 🙂 This is a good video as I may now the answer as to why I lost my lionhead goldfish. I have always fed goldfish with flake food (my dad was obsessed with goldfish so I learnt everything from him). I had never had a problem with before but it may explain the swim bladder problem that sadly took its life. I will take note of this and give a different diet for when I am ready to try keeping fancy goldfish again. 👍 One thing I will say is that my lionhead lived a tank with 2 common goldfish for 18 months with no problems at all, so I would say to judge by the fish that you already have and take it from there. It could just be that my fish are used to living with different types big and small as again, my dad was brilliant at keeping cold water community aquariums and also a lot of luck on my part I guess.

Langen Neubacher I am very intimidated by ranchus because I read everywhere they are not for beginners. I really love them though. I have an aquarium cycling now and I want to keep 2 ranchus. Besides water quality, a spacious environment and quality diet, what can I do to ensure they’re healthy and happy?

@@samanthag1785the biggest thing I have found with ranchu is to get those big beautiful wrens they need extra protein, and they definitely need a lot of water changes. But they're really not as hard as some other kinds of fancy goldfish!! I have a whole channel just about goldfish if you'd like to join!

I got 2 ranchu goldfish about 5 months ago, I put them in a 10 gallon over night, just Waiting for they're big tank to warm up abit more. Only had 1 female guppy in there, I have about 20 really tiny babies. Too small to be baby guppies. Any advice please 🙏,

Oh my I don't know what I got into! My uncle just gave me 13 ranchu fries and I don't have a clue that they will be big like that and their head will engulf their eyes if not trimmed jeez I just recently into the hobby and just have a single betta now I also have 13 ranchus and have no big space for them when they grow out!

My FIL bought my son a tank set-up for his birthday and they picked two Ranchu; I wasn't around for this..... I'd kept marine fish years ago so didn't think it'd be hard. WRONG. I've found they are the dirtiest fish I've ever known. They swim about with turds hanging out of their backsides constantly, with some of them being way longer than the fish itself. The fake cherry blossom tree in the tank has been renamed the shit tree. I've had to put an FX4 on a 100L tank just to keep it properly filtered, and of course I have to turn the output down to about 60% as they don't like too much current or turbulence and aren't exactly agile. Of course my son has no interest in doing this stuff, so basically now I've got to dedicate a couple of hours each weekend to look after these 2 fish and it's costing me a fortune. The family love the fish so ultimately that is all that matters but I've gotta say, for me they've been a total pain.

Do you know what their life expectancy is like when given proper care? I haven't really heard of them lasting longer than 2 or 3 years, but maybe its a combination of how cute they are vs how hard they are to take care of that leads to a lot of inexperienced fishkeepers getting them and making mistakes.
