I used a variety of field guides: Forest Trees of Illinois, Trees of Alabama, Trees of Eastern North America, Trees and Shrubs of Minnesota: The Complete Guide to Species Identification, Trees of the Southeastern United States, Trees and Shrubs of Kentucky, Flora of Missouri, & Trees, Shrubs, and Woody Vines of Arkansas.
