Hi Janey. Great information and I love the emphasis on balance in nature. Orb weavers are freaky and when I see one I think Morning Charlotte and quell my arachnophobia that way. Same with wolf spiders. We have our first killing frost (zone 3) and that has helped put an end to bugs for this year. Slugs are a beast I could do without in a perfect world. Hi to your crew and love to Monte.

Hi Janey, Thank you for this video. I learned about lace wing eggs. It made me research the benefits of leaf cutter bees. I didn’t know that praying mantis eat both good and bad insects. I have seen praying mantis eggs on wood siding but didn’t recognize what it was. If I see white fly I will treat them like spider mites and spray them with water. I hope that you will reconsider your fear of frogs. I have the opposite reaction that you have to them. I think that they are so cute and would love them in my garden. I had a garden in Seattle that had tiny tree frogs that were so beautiful. It’s fun to listen to frogs around a pond at night croaking in a loud happy group.

Gladly I have many birds in my garden witch are taking care of aphids for me. The one pest that drives me insane are SLUGS (and they are not even bugs). We got a new kind of slug in Germany and it is so bad. It eats what ever you plant. Even if the plant is supposed to be not liked by slugs. I found some on my tomatoes! 🙄😔 Janey your garden is wonderful! Love it!

The lacewing egg was a new one for me. I’ll be looking for them in my garden! My yard has been inundated with spider mites- even my orchard trees- plums, almonds, cherries. Not sure what to do next year. Spraying smaller plants with water helped with them for sure. Thrips were a major problem on my grape vines. Clouds of them. I’m going to try home garden biologicals next year. Great video!

Janey, this is such an important video! Thank you so much for your tutorial! I have learned to check on Google lens before I read my garden of any bug. I adore garden spiders and protect them with a vengeance! I actually talk to them, and I had one who lived here for year that actually seem to respond to my voice. I was sad, knowing that about a year is all the time that we would have together. ❤ I know we don’t typically see them after summer, but one bug has decimated my climbing rose is the spotted cucumber beetle. I attempted to spray them off with water which did not work. I ended up spraying with homemade insecticidal soap with a few drops of neem oil. I don’t want to upset the balance of good/bad bugs and have read reams of suggestions on these pests. It seems as if it may be more of a soil issue.🤷♀️ Any suggestions from you or your viewers on how to nip this in the bud before next spring would be highly valued.❤

I would add to this that you also want a healthy soil environment that will attract birds to scratch in. Birds eat a lot of bad bugs - such as baby slugs.

Janey, I love this video! I can so relate to everything that you are talking about with good and bad bugs, as in Australia we have most of the same bugs that you have in the U.S. I can never watch too many garden animal videos as it is so important to connect with wildlife living in the garden, whether they are deemed friend or foe. You are a born gardener and like me, an animal lover. Monty is gorgeous and he wonderful entertainment; an added bonus. Don't you think that pets make our gardens more welcoming and homely as they the bring our gardens to life? 💚🌴🌲🌳💚🍏

I love the Ruby Moon Hyacinth bean plant, it is so beautiful but every year I've planted they get completely overrun by aphids. Last year the ladybugs did a fantastic job of eating them up EVENTUALLY, but it made the season extra long. This year, I took a break from planting them and it has been so much more enjoyable. I'm using dill as a host plant this year, it grows super fast and i don't feel so bad pulling if it becomes too infested, plus it smells incredible and reseeds easily.

Great video! Thanks for the closeups and detailed explanations. I’m hoping you do one on fungal and bacterial diseases one day (but not that you find them in your garden 😂) maybe visit a test garden that has them. The worst garden pest is grasshoppers- no non pesticide spray works and I’ve had an entire veggie bed annihilated overnight. They were a plague for us last year. This year I covered plants with nets but the sad thing is that keeps good bugs off. I added tons of bird houses and a small pond to bring birds in. We can’t have chickens bc of my HOA. I’m hoping the product that works on their nymphs comes back some day (their factory shut down)

Thank you Janey for showing and explaining all the good, bad, and ugly. I do not like Praying Mantis and yes I saw that horrific picture. 😖 I would have loved to see Saw Wings because I believe that my Amaranths were attracted by them 🤔 (?) Although we did not see an actual bug, the leaves were ate except the vein parts, the only thing we found under 1 leaf was a tiny dark juicy worm thing 🤮 Do you think that is what did it? Also idk if it's the same spider you spoke about, but, funny not so funny story; I used to mow property on a riding mower and in the shade there would be a huge web from tree to fence and I couldn't see it til I rode into it uggg. It is a very strong web with a HUGE Spider 🕷 I was told it was an Orb and I was also told it was a wolf spider.. All I know is it was not fun. 😂🤣😂 I have seen a couple Lacewings and a couple Ladybugs 🐞 (my favorite of all) at night on my back door, and lots of Dragonflies as well. I garden in zone 9b Texas Gulf Coast ( very humid and hot)
