Loved to see how the rose petals transferred color and pattern on the dip dyed cotton overnight

I have a sample with in madder, it light, almost coral and i want to pound some flowers on it for the print, do i have to soak this fabric in alum bath again before printing? I had pretreated the fabric with alum acetate before dyeing with madder

Once you have pretreated your fiber with a mordant, you should not have to treat again. Madder also has a tannin content which will help with binding.

I’m having a hard time finding 100% cotton to use as a dye blanket. I saw somewhere said baby receiving blankets. Is it ok if they have small printed things like flowers or dogs. Hard time finding all white. Thank you Margaret.

If you can't find 100% cotton, that is ok, but try to keep it as natural as possible. I doubt the print from the baby blanket would transfer, but its hard to know without giving it a try. Why not do a test run and see how it goes 🙂

So Margaret here , you answered my question about using a already dyed fabric to add a second color. I will try with different sheds of same color, like dye some fabric in salmon color and than put on top some orange and a darker salmon too creating brushes of darker colors over the light salmon ; thanks for the help.

Hi Beto - I just responded to your other comment about 'painting' with dye. But, maybe you try eco-printing for your second dye to create a design? You could first dye your cotton and then do something with leaves or flowers to create an eco-print on top like I show in this video (or many other more recent ones!). Natural dye needs heat (or lots of time soaking) to adhere to textile.
