Thank you for this informative video. I definitely have a need for this capability. I have a couple of recommendations which may improve any models made from an imported image: (1) Do your calibration off of one of the larger dimensions such as the rail height or the width of the rail base (in this example) to reduce any errors that may be introduced by the imported image's line width. (2) Use the Edit Canvas's rotate function to align the base of the rail to the horizontal axis or the height to the vertical axis to make it easier to trace and mirror. If these lines are close, but not quite horizontal or vertical, Fusion 360 will snap them horizontal or vertical. Of course you can fix this afterwards by removing the horizontal or vertical constraints, but I think fixing it in the canvas is less work.

Great video - quick and to the point and solved one of my issues. You'd likely have solved my second issue if you'd finished modeling the rail...splines or better said making your splines match your image. Is there another video you have that does that or could you show how you'd do that with this railroad tie image?

Great video, will definitely use this, so for the next step you would essentially just draw lines over those on the image to create your model?

Excellent Tutorial, Justin! This video was just what I needed for a Picture Shelf that I'm designing. Imported the image of the bedroom wall into Fusion 360 and then scaled it up appropriately, so that I can see the oak rendered shelf model in the actual room. Many thanks!

Much appreciated, doing some custom enclosures for some electronics that requires more precision than I typically do. I was measuring and free handing everything, but realized the curves aren't all constant so using a picture and free modeling it would be much easier. This was very helpful!

hey, I just turned on your video but before watching; I would like to ask a question. can you give me any advice of how to take pictures of the inside of my shop and convert the pictures to cad files and make up my machine building to include the entire shop so that I can see the machines sitting inside of the shop for simulation, and use the same 3D image of the shop for the mill as one machine, and the lathe as the other machine with the shop included in both machine build simulation setups. it seems like it would be worth wile to find a way to make it as simple as taking pictures of the shop to make this happen for anyone who would want to see their entire shop included with each machine build simulation.

Hey how you doing.. Question for you, if you may, is there a way to save both axis of a picture i imported and using as a canvas, I want to scale the z axis to a specific size and the x axis to another size but when I scale one axis the other also changes, don't know if is possible but if there is a way can you please help with that thank you.

Hello, I was watching this video but am not able to get the help I need. I've been stumbling through trying to get a design completed but keep running into problems. In my situation, I finally got my logo into fusion 360 but didn't know about calibrating at that time so my logo came in HUGE and causes stalling in the program and this is a new computer with basically nothing in the memory yet. Is it possible to calibrate and move the logo to a spot on the design item? If so, how is it accomplished. Tim

It would be good to know how to rotate as well. Importing an image from a scanner or a photograph and setting it up is a pretty useful process. good demo would be import a skewed rectangular shaped object, then scale rotate and square it up.

I have a F360 problem that I haven't been able to overcome or find a good explanation for. When I am going about an F360 design, I create sketches and extrude to a body. Later on I will move, align, or join the body and it moves out of line with the sketch. It becomes hard to manage the body via the sketch. How do I better keep this all aligned and easily managed?
@larrybud2 жыл бұрын
Make sure your sketch is fully constrained. You will see a small "lock" icon next to the sketch in the browser when it is.

Thank you Justin, another great tutorial! Moving the canvas doesn't seem to be that easy though, not like moving a body or sketch with the move tool when you can move point to point. Are we missing something here because getting the drawing dead on where you want it is pretty crucial don't you think?

Hi, calibrate the image first than draw a line which will lay on the origin and use its center point to center the line on the origin. Adjust the canvas if there is a diference. Hope this helps

But how do you select a line from an image then? As a line for the sketch that is? So that you can make say body etc.... out of it? Would appreciate help/reply... Thanks
@larrybud2 жыл бұрын
You don't, you create a sketch and use the various tools to "trace" what you imported. The imported image is for reference only.
