Thank you so much. That was entirely what I set out to do. When I was learning I remember being overwhelmed with the sheer amount of information in quite a lot of tutorials and it often put me off as it seemed to really overcomplicate matters. The ones which were simple I just couldn't follow as they went through every single detail, including installing the applications on your pc. I wanted to strike a balance where I could skip uneccesary information for people looking to just get started and also keep a good pace so that people who are more computer literate didn't get bored following along with it 😊

@@AlphaRyu Aye totally, i tried to use unity right away and play with the textures from there, that's all i tried to do but, there's a first for everything eventually ^^ Tho my issue for now is, i can't seem to manage using another software to then bring it back on to unity and so on, i'm getting confused VERY easily XD

This has actually helped me a lot, i got Substance Painter because it was recommended to me since it's easier to use...was still confused and most tutorials skipped a lot of stuff or made it complicated. Now i can finally edit my Character thank you!

Great tutorial! It was nice seeing an overview of your workflow in Substance Painter, I learned a few things about starting from scratch, as I have relied on premade Substance files so far. That program is really amazing, pity my trial has run out. I'd love to see more tutorial content, you do a good job at keeping things concise and understandable. Can't wait to see you at 10k!

Thank you very much Rosco, I am so glad that it was helpful :) The thing about a lot of substance painter tutorials is they tend to go into a lot of detail which can overcomplicate it. I just wanted to very briefly show what some things do, just enough to get people started without worrying too much about every little detail. Just getting going can be very simple, but very detailed tutorials can put some people off.

What if my model already has some textures in a folder pre-made? Could I somehow use those so I can recolor the existing design on them?

I had the same question; I'm currently 10 minutes into the tutorial and its the first time i used substance painter, yet I managed to make it work for me: follow the tutorial to 11:55, then my model has the colors as png files in assets/maps. I import those pngs by using file->import resources, add the png as resource and define (click on undefined) as texture, then import it. Then it will be on the left hand side in the textures list, drag it on top of the 2d image (will create a new layer). Then resize it to cover the full image, and that's it. (May need to this for all different body parts (body, eyes, etc))

Forgot to add a part: once you drag the texture over the 2d image, add it as a base color. Then right click and set scale to 1 and offset to 0.

VRchat recently updated the unity version since this video was published. Be sure to check the vrchat website for the current and correct unity version to download 😊

Usually when you download a vrchat avatar, it has an fbx file. if not seprate from the unity scene, its usually somewhere in the asset list of the unity scene itself

This is a bit of an old video now but the process is mostly the same even in the newer versions so its best to use the updated versions as much as possible. In regards to substance painter, it doesnt matter at all which version you use, but in terms of unity and the VRCHAT SDK, be sure to use what version the VRChat website states :)

is there any other way in getting dynamic bones working on an avatar such as a Free alternative? I downloaded a package for it that I found online (yes that is probably the issue to begin with) but I got an error when uploading and they may have either been because it was not in a plugin form or there were some missing/blank/broken script that may or may have not been related to the dynamic bones

I have an idea maybe we can ask VRChat developers to implement an ingame character creator and we can save a certain character or at least take it from the favourites Avatars and then modify it and then when you safe The customer avatar it places it under your own ‘creates Avatars’ And if enough of us ask maybe they will do it to make it a lot more simple to make your own skins. Even though you can do this you will still be able to import skins if you want to make a skin using features that VRChat might not have implemented.
