Hi Dr Sam, I am starting to follow your teachings. I dont wear glasses and dont plan on it unless i have to. I have given in to wearing glasses when i have very small print on the computer. Years ago they told me i have prescription below. I bought + 1.5 reading glasses and my version is perfect but mildy magnified. Could that mean i was over prescribed and dont have astigmasitm? Has there been studies on this, and why isnt it more common advice? I remember reading about what causes near sightedness farsightedness and astigmatism, and I keep thinking if the eye changes shape because of how you use your eye, straining them consistently over time, whh would it go back to normal if you just stop straining them so much. Also if you wear glasses wouldnt it just leave it that way because the glasses adjust to how your eye is and your eye wouldnt have any need to adjust itself. But I think the key is really being able to relax your eye because naturally youd start straining the eye because you try to focus on something. I honestly dont know if this is legit because it seems so obvious and I dont see it mentioned everywhere, but i hope there no harm in trying.

Dr. Berne, When you talked about creating a prescription that does not have astigmatism in it and "balancing" the rest of the prescription, what does balancing mean? Do you take the average of the prescription for the right and left eye? (ie right is -0.75, left is -1.75; so the balanced prescription is -1.25 for each eye?)

When He Stated "Balance" In Both Eyes He Meant The Same Sphere (SPH) Prescription For Both Left & Right Eye. A Prescription Without An Astigmatism Would Have A "0" For Both The Cylinder (CYL) & Axis (AXIS) In Your Prescription. When You Look At Your Spectacle/Glasses Prescription It Has 3-Sections: SPH | CYL | AXIS.

Saima Khatoon I think the astigmatisms caused by you wearing glasses to look close distance. What I did is I got a pair of glasses with less power and non astigmatisms for close distance reading. My eyes feel less strain and tension. They start to relax. It takes time the eye ball gradually recover. So the astigmatisms reduced or go off. I didn’t do exam yet, but I found my eyes can see more clear comparing the first time I wear the non astigmatisms glasses.

Ray T. you can try at optomitrist, to feel what is like to read in short distance without astigmatisms. I found my eyes feel ease despite my right eyes is very blur. But my right eye currently is a little bit in distortion status due to I didn’t reduced the astigmatisms with my last pair of glasses for reading, but with less power and right and left eye power is also not same. So this time I got equal power on both eyes. I think with less disturb on my right eye, and more exercise will let my right eye have a chance to recover and improve.

There's lots of research papers showing that defocus with plus lenses does prevent eye elongation and myopia progression. The higher defocus (+6 lenses) the better results. Time matters too. Whering lenses with such defocus you can't do much. So, I think of one eye lens on while reading, and then another eye. One hour a day.

Thank you Dr Sam. Interesting information on how to get past the astigmatism...I have been wearing glasses for astigmatism for years and years. I found a couple of years ago that my eyesight is way better than it was and I can go without my glasses for most all the time except for reading ...although I can read way better than I could before even without my glasses. YAY! I have a friend who is unfortunately without money who thinks that he has Macular Degeneration. Bright sunlight prevents him from seeing and so on... I jus tfound your information and so I referred him to your KZbin videos a little while ago this afternoon. I hope that he can view them to learn and possibly get relief or complete healing of his vision problem.

My power is -5.25 L and -7 With -1.25 on both eyes. I reduced power to -4. With no astigmatisms, though the right eye which is weaker is very blur, but I found it is most relax and ease when I am doing reading with astigmatisms removes on both eyes.

I wear 1.5 diopters (sph - for shortsightedness) weaker glasses than my full correction for close up, and also have no astigmatism correction in my close up glasses. Weaker glasses for close up is the key to stopping lens-induced myopia.

Thanks. My eyes are only astigmatism and not any other problem so does it mean that I don’t need a “zero-astigmatism” glass and I can just take off my current glasses, and do the same thing?! Also, my left and right eyes are slightly different in astigmatism ( 1.75 & 2.25 ) Does it matter?

Dr Sam may have a better answer, but he doesn't seem very active in his comments, so I will tell you what I would suggest. Get a pair of glasses that are 1.50 and 2.00, then when you can see clearly in them (maybe a few months later), change to 1.5 and 1.75. Then when you eyes have adjusted to them, down to 1.25 and 1.5. Then after than 1.25 and 1.25, then you can reduce them together. Equalising is helpful, as Dr Sam said, but it can help your eyes to not equalise too suddenly. Judging from what Dr Sam said in this video, he may even suggest changing to 2.00 and 2.00 to begin with and then stepping them down together. So, take your time, one step at a time. Will probably take your eyes 3 or 4 months to adjust to each step. You can judge that, and if you move down too quickly and your vision isn't keeping up, just go up again and give it a bit more time. You can do this!

Sorry​@@benjaminisation, I didn't explain myself well at all. Looking back, my response wasn't actually even a very direct answer to your question. In response to your original question, it does sound like Dr Sam was suggesting glasses that were as close to a neutral correction as possible (even 'spherical' correction, and no 'cylinder' correction), and the most neutral correction of all would be no correction. So I think your interpretation does indeed match what Dr Sam was saying. And to explain what I so badly said: No, I wasn't suggesting getting glasses for short sightedness or long sightedness. Short sighted and long sighted correction is written as 'sph', or 'spherical' correction. Astigmatism correction is written as 'cyl', or 'cylinder' correction. I was talking about slowly stepping down your cylinder correction. But that would be for normal daily use, whereas Dr Sam was talking about only using the zero-astigmatism glasses sometimes when blur is okay to have for you. So it was an extra thing you could do, on top of Dr Sam's suggestion. Sorry - I have no idea what I was thinking when I wrote that comment so poorly.

Slight Cylender seems normal - that is less than 1.5 Diopters. There is no legal requirement. You can pass the FAA test with it, since they do not require a measurement for it. It is extremely difficult to measure it accurately. Better to use your own Snellen, and aim to pass the DMV required 20/40 line. ***** Currently I am now reading 20/20.

It means that the lenses are not made for astigmatism. The astigmatism that you have is factored out of the shape of the lens (cylinder).

If you have a prescription for glasses, there will be a section called "sph" (or "sphere") which will give you correction for near or long sightedness, and a section called "cyl"(or "cylinder") which is your astigmatism correction. There is also a section called "axis", which is which was the astigmatism correction goes. So to get glasses without astigmatism correction, you want glasses with 0 cyl correction.

Sir, how high is the Astigmatism values for her? My daughter 8 yrs. also got the Astigmatism prescription. She used that to read the Chalk board in school, but other times we made her play games like Basketball and Badminton, where eye moves along with shuttle or Ball, strictly restricted media use specially smartphone. Now she seems fine as she can read in class without any glasses. Please take your daughter outdoors for playing as much as you can without her glasses. Give her glasses only when she needs to read or write. It will help.

What do you mean? Difficulty in seeing things in the distance can be from merely shortsightedness, or a combination of shortsightedness and astigmatism (like in my case).

Nearsightedness can lead to astigmatism correction. I don't know if Dr Sam has stuff about reversing nearsightedness (also called myopia) - worth checking. If not, Jake Steiner has a thing called EndMyopia, which I am doing, and it is doing great for reducing my myopia, and I just lowered my astigmatism correction

I just saw this video and then your comment and I am writing this to make you believe that astigmatism in my right eye has been reduced from 1.5 to 0.75 naturally. So this 'reverse' things happen, just focus on your diet and sleep amd forget how long you have to do this, maybe one day you will also 'see' the results and believe that positive things can also happen naturally.

@@leilaadnane8952 I didn't do anything, when I went to the doctor for my checkup, he prescribed me less power for my astigmatism and said your eyes are adjusting well. So it can happen naturally. I don't know how old you are but if you are a teenager then it will also depend on your growth but few of my advice for you is don't watch screen in the dark and avoid being on screen at night unnecessarily and sleep well at night.
