When The Beast was done being retracked, the Beast crew got to ride the ride before all of the trims were placed in the brake shed and on the second drop. It was completely out of control, amazing, but the average guest would not have enjoyed it. That being said, I'm glad I got to experience half-trim Beast.

My recollection is that there were less trims at points in the past as well. I recall coming around the curve after the first drop and being slammed down that next hill back in the 90s. Could just be the way I remember it as an 8-12 year old, but going back years later I was disappointed at the trims there to slow it down. Not to mention the later trims on the straight track.

KI Is my home park so I really appreciated this video. It was nice to hear someone else say that a drop track in Mystic Timber's shed would have been a perfect finale. Seems like a huge missed opportunity. I don't remember what you said about The Bat, but I love that ride and I would love if it got new life with a Hulk-style re-track to buy it 20 more years. I was at KI for the beginning of Haunt and the Backlot Stunt Coaster effects were working perfectly both days including the copter. Disappointingly, they had the lights on for the indoor section on Sunday morning.

From what I understand, the backwards Racer was stopped because the trains were getting damaged. The manufacturer recommended not to run them backwards, and parts were hard to come by. They do have a workshop that has been doing custom repairs. But, the only solution would to have new trains made for the backwards running. I don’t think they want to change its classic cars, or spend the money to do it. I rode the backwards exclusively back in the day, it was so much more fun.

Also from what I heard working at the park, it's an insurance issue. Because the manufacturer specifically recommends not running it backwards, insurance requires them to run it forward, otherwise they wouldn't cover the ride and/or park. Similarly, it's the same reason you never see anyone with their hands up on rides in any official park PR photos. The "official" manufacturer recommended riding position for just about any coaster includes riders hands holding onto the restraints. As such, the park cannot be seen officially endorsing any other position, including raised hands, or they could be found liable for any incident or on-ride injury, regardless of cause.

Goldstriker is the best coaster at Great America, although wooden coasters hardly ever get saved and moved and rebuilt, even when they are barely over a decade old.

Great video airtime. You made some solid points. I would love to see a world-class standout coaster at KI, but due to the close proximity to Cedar Point, I dont think that will ever happen. It would have happened by now if that was i in the plans of Cedar Fair pre-merger. I would personally love to see an Intamin or RMC single-rail maybe? No wooden coaster for them to get an RMC. Or maybe even a mack spinner. I do think Orion gets overhated by thoosies. It's still a very solid coaster, with an elite tier 1 first drop even if all the other gigas in norrh america are better. Its a tough comparison. Some of the gigas are world class, so i think its overhated. The sustained floater is great. 305 (Pantherion) is almost 1,000 feet shorter but no one complains about that. 😂

YESSS!!! I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN ONE. Also, I have been on backlot many times, and every time it has had effects, even from a distance I can see the fire. I also heard Orion would have been taller and longer, but cedar fair didn’t want to outclass fury. With banshee, the rattle has been bad, as after 2-3 rides I get beaten up too badly. Diamondback only has had rattles once or twice a trip, on night rides in back row, so It doesn’t bother me

Great Video!! They DO take the trims off of the Beast occasionally. If you are lucky and you ride one of the last few trains of the night, you might experience it one day. My cousin worked there and had a no-brake run on it two seasons ago. My mom got to ride it opening year when there were no trims as well. Extremely rare today, but I can see why they don't do it every run. The trains would need replaced yearly.

I think with adventure express they did a great job starting the retheme. I think they should complete it. For example turn the fog back on when the guy dumps the lava on you at the end. Make sure the drummers can be heard etc. Backwards racer would be nice since we are getting no new coaster anytime soon. Maybe just a suggestion comfort collars on flight of fear. Really tall people do not fit in the front of the cars. We cant get our legs under the restraints.

The only changes I would make to the suggestions would be to make sure all of the square wheels are swapped out for round ones on The Beast. I rode this on the last night of Halloween Haunt this year and I think they missed a few of the square wheels.

I also think some air-conditioning in that shed would not be too bad… I like how people got upset that it was a letdown… a few of us have way too high expectations. I don’t mind the shed since it’s under a roof when it’s hot (but not TOO hot, then it’s unbearable). Also, I actually really do like Orion. The first drop, the speed hill is amazing… If you sit on the left side for the first wave turn, it’s amazing, but if you sit on the right side, it’s nothing. In the end, it always has a decent line so I guess it serves its purpose… The general public loves it.

How to improve the coasters at Six Flags America: Roar - Titan Track & Millennium Flyer trains Wild One - keep it as is. Professor Screamore's SkyWinder - retrack. Batwing - scrap Superman: Ride of Steel - put the second train on the track.

King's Dominion will tell you they aren't allowed to run one train backwards anymore because the trains weren't certified to operate like that and, for some inexplicable reason, it's impossible to get it certified with the state anymore. The story I was told by one of the operators was that during a state inspection, the inspector dragged out the old paperwork showing the certifications and asked for the certifications showing it tested running backwards which they couldn't produce. The stupid part is, it had been running backwards for over 20 years at that point without issue but that didn't matter to the inspector and he made them turn the train around the correct direction until they could produce the proper test certifications. But I was always under the impression that was just an issue with King's Dominion and the state of VA. If all that's true, no doubt they could get it certified but who knows what that would cost and if they feel it's worth the investment. I don't know a single person that doesn't miss the 1 train running backwards on the coaster formerly known as Rebel Yell. Literally, the ONLY argument that would make sense is that, if there was an accident which caused the train to suddenly stop, people's necks would get snapped in the wrong direction since the trains don't have head rests. If that's the concern, at least it would make some sense but would also be correctable.

I’m glad you recognized the B&M rattle. It’s not the land or ground. It’s their track structure design. The rails sag between the supports. Every B&M has it or will have it. It’s always starts/worse in the valleys. Max speed & train weight pushing down. You can even hear Diamondbacks rattle sitting at Potato Works. 😂 Right next to the first drop valley. Prolly to $$ to fix

Reason backwards Racer was stopped: The Racer at Kings Island no longer runs backwards because the original design of the wooden roller coaster was not intended to operate in reverse, and running backwards could potentially compromise safety and not be covered by insurance; for a period in the past, one side of The Racer did operate backwards as a unique feature, but this practice was discontinued and the ride was restored to run forwards on both sides

Okay pausing after the kiddy coasters. KI is one of my home parks and I visit ~25x per year so here’s my thoughts: Diamondback - turn the trims down. The first 3 hills hit sooo good including the trimmed third one but the next couple after the mid course not quite as good. Lower the trim amount on the third hill and mid course both. The drop and splashdown would be epic. Orion - Same, just turn the trim off. It never hits that hard and the little added speed boost would make the ending a bit more intense. Non realistic pick would be a few more elements at the end and push the wave turn out instead of in so that it gives great airtime. Mystic - nothing really. It does what it was intended to do very well. Banshee - it’s not realistic but I do miss some of the snap of the old B&Ms. I wish the roll rate was a bit higher in a few spots other than the inline twist. Realistically, work on the trains that tend to rattle a bit more. B&M rattle doesn’t bother me personally but I do notice it. Beast - realistically offer certain events or times of the day (say night rides) to go trim less. Probably not realistic - start putting speed hills and double ups/downs in the straight sections but by bit as it get retracked. Racer - easy - turn blue racer backwards again! FOF - I don’t know if possible but it needs more efficiency. Could they go back to 3 trains instead of 2 or would that not help? Backlot - it’s fine - it’s a family coaster. Invertigo - my daughter would kill me for saying this but tear it down and build a front gate coaster after we get the vortex replacement. It’s honestly not bad though just too intense without the redeeming qualities. Bat - pretty perfect for an arrow suspended but I wish it were a tad longer.

I love all 15 of your solutions. I have 2 alternate quick Fixes. 1) Timbers - For Winterfest, replace the music with Chrismas songs and instead of a snake or a tree attacking you, have Santa or Frosty wish you a Merry Christmas. 2) The Bat - Still call it "The Bat" but paint it red and White like the Cincinnati Reds colors. That long creepy walk into the boonies would be more fun if you had selfie stations of famous Reds players lifesize photos along the path. Votto, Griffey, Rose, Bench and Morgan, perhaps even Elly De La Cruz. I feel that these murals could encourage marathons of the ride. New selfie, another ride.

For Diamondback, the rattle wasn’t an issue for me. The entire return trip did nothing after the turnaround because the trim hit so hard when I rode it all 3 times. Do why Raging Bull did last year and turn that thing down!

I definitely think the change for flight of fear that you picked should have been to turn the trims off. There is a midcourse on flight of fear that brings you to a near dead stop and it prevents the 2nd half being what it could be. I recently rode poltergeist and since it doesn’t have trims like flight of fear does it tears through the 2nd half so imagine flight of fear with no midcourse that would be awesome if it tore through the 2nd half of the layout in complete darkness.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure the reason why or orion has a shorter layout (even though it had so much more space it could use) is because Orion was initially planned to go to another Cedar fair Park. I think it was California’s great America hyper coaster before that plan was canceled.

Fixing the banshee rattle is allegedly impossible unless they replace the vest restraints with the older b&m ots restraints, or if they just get all new lighter trains. The current trains are allegedly too heavy. I guess they could reinforce the track but idk how much of a permanent fix that would be.

For Flight of Fear, how about they TURN THE DAMN LIGHTS OFF inside the spaghetti bowl?! My last two rides on it were ruined because I could see everything which eliminated all of the suspense of not knowing what's coming next.
