This is going to sound really pedantic but I recently interviewed at a biopharma company and one of the drugs in their pipeline involves eye drops at a certain concentration that are given to children to stop myopia. It inhibits the degradation of dopamine levels and will be on the market within next three years if all goes accordingly. This drug is at the third stage undergoing FDA approval. They are currently wrapping up trial testing in Europe which so far, has shown excellent results. I would also like to add that the eye drops is only effective for children. Also this is one of my favorite channels!

Hi there! Maybe reducing screen time isn't an option. However, you do have an option to stop your vision getting worse. What is it? Wearing weaker glasses for screen use. The problem with wearing full prescription glasses for close-up is that it causes hyperopic defocus. In simple terms - it makes someone more myopic. I used this technique to reverse my myopia from -2.00 to 20/20. I am also helping others do the same at my channel and with my courses.

I see 20/40-20/50 on a good day, but functionally I'm 20/70-20/80, as damping the nystagmus is so incredibly difficult when reading.

If I don't get things just right the nystagmus will never dampen fully (at the null point) and it makes my eye muscles feel so sore...so yeah, what I see and feel at the docs office, through the scope, is never the full story; I could test the best ever and then, at home, my eyes feel they are fighting and the nystagmus becomes uncontrollable :(

My poor eyesight progressed just as you described - from grade school on. My dad was nearsighted so there is that. The school nurse got a phone call in the middle of my 3rd grade eye exam. When she was done, she dismissed me with no comment on the fact that I could not see the eye chart. Because of the interruption- she forgot all about me and my eye problem. Fast forward 2 years worth of failing grades later - a new eye test and finally glasses (they all found out I WAS really smart, just nearsighted!). I marvelled at the actual individual leaves on the trees, the writing on the blackboard, my teacher's face. My eyes got worse over the years till now I have -5.50/-2.50 in both eyes (not exact rx) and I have astigmatism as well. I am 60 now. Even though I have progressives, I usually look over the top of my glasses to see very close - which is in focus 6 inches from my face. After years of foggy glasses that constantly slip down my tiny nose, I am happy to have contacts again. Eyeglasses have come a long way since the days of my heavy coke bottle tortoise shell specs. The thinner, lighter, almost invisible lens that darkens in sunlight makes wearing glasses bearable, but contacts are the best. Do the corrective hard lenses that are applied at bedtime work for adults? Does the re-shaping effect last throughout the day? Can you still see at night with the lenses in? I wonder if they would help me.

Just make sure you don't cut corners keeping them clean and disinfected because an eye infection and/or a cut cornea is just AWFUL! you can avoid a cut cornea by never over-wearing your lenses! I did it and ended up wearing eye patches on BOTH eyes for 48 hours - and the cuts - microscopic almost - hurt like hell). Lasix and contacts are so cheap nowadays compared to years ago - 30 bucks or so for comfy soft lenses you change monthly (a 6 month supply) or now lasix is like $500 bucks an eye!! Years ago when it was new - $10,000 for lasix (yea, right) or $300 for a pair of hard lenses that pop out and fly away at any given moment! Hell no! Ancient history, lol! I started wearing RGP (rigid gas permeable) contacts when you still needed to sign a waver that they were experimental ;) I tried the new soft lenses in my 20's but after a few days, I couldn't see distance, so back to RGP. Finally, last year, after tired of blurry middle zone (6 feet) and needing readers much of the time, I gave up and started wearing my progressive glasses all the time. 6 months later at my next eye exam, my right eye had changed enough to need a new prescription. I wonder if wearing RGP all those years (46 years) prevented myopia creep? I'll ask my specialist at my next retinal exam.

Here is my story. Hope it helps and provides hope to many. I had stable -1 myopia for over 23 years. End of Jan 2023 I had an episode of "Primary Iridocyclitis of Right Eye". Used steroids and dilation drops. These did not improve but worsened the condition. After three weeks I stopped medications and went to tropical island. Hiked a lot and did eye exercises along with being in the sun all day. After 6 weeks my right eye still was weak and I saw things about 20% smaller than the left eye with glasses. But surprisingly after 7 weeks my right eye got better than left eye. I think now my right eye is near 20/20 maybe -0.25. I stopped using glasses after 23 years. The left eye still seems to be -1. I'm trying to continue exercises and reduce that as well. After seeing many articles about myopia from professionals who say it cannot be reversed I now feel like it can be reversed with a prolonged change in habits. Good luck everyone. Take care. I saw this channel and answers on quora that stated clearly that myopia cannot be reversed. I think myopia CAN BE REVERSED. It may take long time but it is POSSIBLE.

Biggest reasons for myopia: 1. Processed food 2. Stress 3. Inadequate quality sleep 4. Inadequate exercise All of these increase the tension of the muscles that are being used and we all use eyeball muscles. Myopia is not a disease, its a lifestyle health condition.

Im an optometry student, people dont really teach you (or either dont know) why myopia progresses. I will not go into details because I cant be bothered writing the same comments in so many videos, but generally, myopia worsens when myopic patients WEAR THEIR GLASSES/CONTACTS WHILE DOING NEAR WORK. The light focuses BEHIND the retina, requiering more accommodation from the lens, in order for the light to fall on the retina. This vicious cycle will proceed (especially in young age), the eyeball to will elongate more, and thus myopia will increase. People who refuse to believe this are either ignorant, or have sale motives.

When I was younger, this effect would not last for too long, but now, as I age and my job requires me to read almost all day, the myopia don't go away until I sleep. I saw a professionnal who prescribed me glasses to read (even though I have no problem seeing from up close), because she thought that my eyes would need to focus less and that it would help them seeing from a far after my reading sessions. Doctor Eye Health there’s only one doctor in the area that fits for them, and I didn’t like the staff. My new eye doctor is licensed to fit ortho-k so she knows about them but doesn’t have the topography machine to actually fit them. Not enough people here want them. I’m 23 now and I started wearing glasses in 2nd grade, but I’m not up to a -3 yet. Part of why it was hard to move away was I’m very light sensitive and my eyes stay more dilated than someone’s pupils should at my age, so ortho-k was nice to just sleep in, but I need to choose soft contacts that go to the sclera so the edge of my vision isn’t blurry. When you're at 20/40, the optometrist will give you -2.00 diopter lenses, giving you 20/10 vision. That over-prescription will cause vision to go down drastically. What you should have done instead, when at 20/40, is cut out all your near focusing habits and get more outdoor time. If you're in a situation where that is difficult to do, I suggest wearing a plus lens for all close work. It takes about one year to get back to 20/20. Most of the public do not want to hear this as they want a quick fix. Optometrists will not discuss this in fear of being sued.

simple myopia control method: don't wear your full correction glasses at a distance below 20 feet and your eyesight will stop worsening this method has no side effect when you compare to multifocals and ortho-k is that it block tear films from lubricationg the eye properly also don't forget that contacts moves inside the eye so any hard movement will result in permenent corneal scarring even atropine has side effects as it causes light sensitivity and kills accomodation which is a natural eye mechanism to see clearly at all distances . don't be guillible do your own research and come to your own conclusion myopia is not what you actually think

Also bright light, of daylight strengths, seems to prevent or slow progression of myopia. There were some Australian researchers doing studies in China (in China they are able to lifestyle changes with children that are not possible elsewhere), the idea being to either be in a daylight lit classroom, or mandatory long playtime outside - even the winter sun is strong enough to prevent provide the benefit. The theory is that lack of daylight strength bright light (ie outside time) is the reason why myopia rates can shoot up (did shoot up in the Chinese population) in one generation. They also did studies on chicks (chickens) where one eye was covered to reduce the light and the other eye uncovered to allow bright light in, and to compare myopia in this case and it was supporting the theory. Obviously want to prevent UV damage at the same time, but even with sunglasses on the outside light is still brighter than indoor lighting. Don’t know how the researchers are progressing, I saw the documentary on them several years ago, but us seemed like it was probably causative. Chinese population first wave increased rate of myopia would have pre-dated tablets and smartphones, so I think it seems more correlation than causation in the USA pop, but constant close work (book work) was suspect for a long time also, meanwhile seems like a possibility that is only because it is highly correlated with lots of indoor time and little outdoor time playing in bright light.

You will actually feel your distance muscles in your eye start getting a tight feeling. Now stop and cover your eyes with your hands , rest your eyes for about 30 seconds. Keep doing this and your eyes may improve like mine did. Do it every day and I hope you see improvement like I did. I just need to remember to do it and try to get them better now. @DoctorEyeHealth2 жыл бұрын
Well, using minus lenses to read wont hurt the eyes or eye muscles for most people (after about the ages of 23-25) or at least once the eyes stop growing. Funny enough when the eyes become more nearsighted they are technically not "weak" but instead the optical system is becoming stronger. But Plus lenses do reduce the accommodative demand for reading at near. I will have a whole video series on the science and publications on this in the near future.

Kids who reject wearing an intelligent plus lens, and wear a minus lens, 16/7, become myopic at s rate of -0.5 Diopter per year, for each year in school. Or, in 6 years, you can figure you will add minus 3 diopters to your current prescription. That is the science of it. Make a wise choice. I have.
