Very instructive, not to mention a beautiful choice of locations. IMHO Your bush flying skills quite admirable. Did you learn all of this in the flight sim environment; I ask as it seems you have had the opportunity for real world learning also. In any event this vid goes on the saved playlist of invaluable instruction videos. Thank you one again.

One of my greatest lightbulb moments was learning "pitch controls speed, throttle controls attitude" while digging through the classic book "Stick and Rudder". When you're first learning it seems the other way would be logical but once you approach it that way and truly begin to understand trimming your plane it makes an insane difference in your flying.

@@cubs56698489 absolutely, my CFI recommended it early on. Life got in the way of finishing my ppl training but it still translates well to sim.

22:40 beautifully done! I call that maneuver “hanging it on the prop” because you’re really using power to control your descent

Near and dear to me. The creek that joins Johnson Creek at the very south end of the runway and the lake it flows out of are named for my family.

This is really really good! I'd been using some of these techniques for a while already as I love to do bush flying in msfs. I once did a trip from Anchorage Alaska to Sitka Alaska in a cessna 152 in the sim. It was a lot like this in the mountain areas. Cool channel! Keep it up! :)

That was excellent. If I want to cover distance or cache scenery quickly, I fly the Vertigo. The rest of the time I spend in bush planes. I'm looking forward to trying group trips.

for crossing peaks and valleys, you pick a point on the obstacle and note it's position in the windscreen. given a fixed attitude and rate of climb, if the position of that point starts to descend in the windscreen you will clear the obstacle. if it's rising in the windscreen, you won't clear the obstacle. it's the same as doing an approach with an aiming point. basic mountain flying skill source:1200h of mountain flying and glider racing in BC

You fly much more controlled when you're not delivering 'groceries' to Pablo or taking some shady characters into the Veld. Hehehe... I've learned the hard way how to climb out of a valley successfully.

Did you factor wind into which side of the valley you chose to fly down? Down drafts etc lol "here's a perfect example!" *turns at 45 degrees bank angle no flaps slow air speed* 🤣
@AvAngel
@AvAngel 2 жыл бұрын
It can be a factor, upwind is better obviously, but staying away from the up and down draft area right along the wall is preferable as the air gets real turbulent there, the flow is better away from the valley sides, off to ONE side, but not right up against it.

i dont think it's a good idea to trigger the stall warning alarm so early at a landing, one mistake and you are dead

It's actually a fairly well documented technique. Riding the horn in a high alpha approach gets done quite a bit.
