The ankle action with the toe is key. I also always thought about teaching people to jump in that “Superman” position so they keep that back leg down longer. Kinda like a super rocket Ollie. Also maybe stomping it to hard and early, let it float?

Great video! One thing that never got addressed was how his Ollie drifts to the heel side at times. As a 49 year old skater who started my skating journey during Covid, I share his frustration. I have Ollie’s over 3 boards consistently, and have gone over 4, but never with the desired board control that this gentleman is searching for as well. Every video says it’s a shoulder problem but I think it’s a front hip/ front drag problem. I’ve gotten it to stop and then it’s creeped back because I don’t know the root cause. If anyone has a hack to prevent the board from drifting heel side, I’m all ears. Keep up the great work AK!!

One thing thing with the first example-Ollie is also just how big the obstacle is. When you roll up to it it doesnt look possible to get over it but you know by experience that you are able, all you have to do is to make a sick Ollie with all the power and technique you got. It´s a bit "i just have to make this"-mentality. When you really bang the tail to the ground the board will fly up with force so your jump will be slower than the board. The leverage when your really bang it. Think about what would happen if you were standning beside your board and just stomp your foot the hardest and fastest you can on the end tail. It would fly several meters up in the air. Fast. With force. Skate every day, jump over higher and higher obstacles. That will perfect your technique, You absolutely have the potential for a great Ollie with this mindset and the technique you already have.

I love old guys that wanna learn how to skate. I met a guy today who owns a new Popeyes franchise near my skatepark, and he was puttin some work in for his restaurant, I always noticed him eying me at the skatepark and had a feeling he probably skated or at least thought it was cool or something. Well today, since he always parks next to the skatepark, he saw me skating and walked by and said “hey check this out”, he then brought out an old school skateboard and started showing me his Ollie and asking for tips, but I just thought wow, how wild is it to be his age (he looked older, maybe 40’s) and wanna learn to skate. It’s truly commendable and inspiring, and his Ollie’s didn’t even look half bad!

The current level he is at that is a perfectly acceptable ollie. Perfecting an ollie takes time. I think he need to focus more on olliing on and off things and over things and maybe a learn to 50-50 which is fairly easy on 2 foot high boxes. the more you skate as focus less on a single trick the faster you will progress it werd but it works. My only advice would be to bring his front foot back a small bit then his drag will be more connected and it will look like the board is stuck you his feet. My friend and I used to call it stickly feet lol still hats off him and to anyone who is learning to skate at 30 + years old. I'm going on 35 and I've been skating since I was 16 and now after a day of skating I'm feeling it ache and pains everywhere and that with out bailing lol very inspiring stuff indeed.

23:58 I think he's doing two different movements to jump, first he elevates his hip, and then he kicks the board, so I think this reduces the power of the Ollie and also make his leg stay bended instead of straight as would it been if he just did one motion ( the same two movements at the same time)

Try jumping more rather than just lifting the back leg up when you pop. You need a little more hang-time (not necessarily more height). It's all happening too fast. But either way, you've already got a pretty decent ollie my friend. Keep it up

looks like he just needs to do a fully rocketed ollie with no backfoot lift at all to start with. just pop the tail leave the foot down pinning the tail to the ground to start with. after that he can slowly work on the back leg lift. just get the front as vertical as you could as step 1. yeah if he goes faster and ollies further back from the block he' can give himself time to just keep that back foot down longer. the guy he was lookin at as a perfect ollie was going really and ollieing over something much larger than a parking block.

With the heel flip it a bit of a commitment trick as you need to stay centered over the board and it very easy to land primo and go flying it happen to be a lot I even landed my on my back in a primo 😂If you find the board is flipping behind you instead of underneath you then try leaning back on your heel edge just as you pop the board and drag you heel off the deck. I like to think of it sitting on a chair up in the air, I find it helped help me stay centered over the board in the past while getting more consistant with the trick and if I haven't skated in a while and need to tweek my body position the find the right set up to get my heel flips back then it just muscle memory. Best of luck. Once you get heel flip it's a fairly consistsnt trick.
