As someone who has been working on ollie for 6 months, this is the best advice out there. Take foot positioning for example. Aaron Kyro says, put feet closer together. Sure if you are a pro - this works great, cause you do ollies as easily as blinking your eye. But for a beginner - as the girl says - it is the worst you can do. Do the opposite, you will feel more stable, you will level the board much better ... you won't hear this often from any tutorials. GOOD JOB SARAH!
@SarahParkMatott3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm glad you appreciated the content. 😃 (I obviously agree that this is important lol) I think there is a little disconnect between some of the skaters making tutorials and the ones watching them. Like this foot positioning example, I think most of the teachers assume that skaters want to know how to ollie higher after they learn how to level out the ollie, when a lot of skaters are trying to learn how to "ollie higher" because they don't know how to level out the ollie. So the intended audience and the actual audience seem to be a bit different, without either side realizing it. And so, it seems to be a bit of a cycle.
@sugaranderson13 жыл бұрын
very well done on this ollie tutorial! these are the information which every beginner needs to know. most especially, the front foot placement. majority of the tutorial demonstrated the front foot in the middle of the board to level it out! keep it up!
@SarahParkMatott3 жыл бұрын
@@sugaranderson1 Thank you! I'm glad you think so 😃🙏 Yeah, I think increasing the distance between the nose and your front foot as a beginner is usually not a great idea. It's hard enough to push the nose forward as it is 😂

Like perfecting your ollies right? I’ve taught a couple of my friends to Ollie both stationary and moving in the matter of a few days. I couldn’t imagine you’re failing to actually ollie.
@lemn63173 жыл бұрын
i feel it all depends on each person and what you feel comfortable with. for example. im learning how to ollie but its much easier for me to keep my feet closer together and when it comes to popping a different foot position feels more comfortable and better to pop with.

Great video thanks! Your 5-step Ollie method is also innovative and excellent. The main thing it adds for me is muscle memory ‘at-speed’ which is what makes it so hard to translate the slow steps from other how to videos into an actual Ollie. I used your method to get a beginner-level switch Ollie and it worked in the span of maybe 20 minutes. Lots of room for me to improve them, but I never ever thought I would land any kind of switch Ollie at all before seeing your video.
@SarahParkMatott3 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! I'm really happy to hear that it helped you so much. I actually came up with the method while learning switch myself. I wanted to find something that helped with all the little parts of an ollie but wasn't a "1,000 tries" method. And the 5-step method was what I came up with :D Congrats on the switch ollie! Mine still needs a lot of improvement too, but we are getting there 💪😄

Aww nooo! Pinching the board is really easy to overlook. The big problem is that pros and advanced skaters are soo good that the space they need between the ground and their deck is really small, and they can keep the tail really close to their foot. So, it’s hard to see the space and it even looks like they are jumping right off the ground. But! I am super stoked that that was the last piece of the puzzle for you! Congrats on your ollie 💪💪

Mad props for all the practice and work you've done while indoors. I've tried working on manuals that way, but, get bored out of my mind. Probably, I would be better off doing more of that, but, I just feel like I've got to roll and move around.

I actually really like to do indoor manuals 😂

Hey I found your channel today, and already I wanna say thanks so much for these videos. I started skating summer 2018 but I'm still stuck in the very beginner stuff because I get so incredibly discouraged. :D And there's nowhere to skate during the winter for a total beginner like me. (Thanks for the carpet boarding vids, I'm pumped to finish work for today so I can try stuff out!) I do pretty decent ollies stationary but it completely!!! falls apart when I try to do it rolling. Do you have any tips for getting ollies consistently while rolling? I'd really appreciate a video. Thanks again Sarah, amazing stuff. I really want to progress this summer and you have tons of great material for inspiration.

Thank you for the comment! I’m glad you like the videos!😃 and I can totally relate to having nowhere to skate in winter besides my basement. Skating is so difficult. Making a video about rolling ollies is on my list. I am just taking a little skate break to rest and then that’s one of the next few tutorials 😃 I told someone else this though, so I’ll post it here as well. Getting the ollies rolling is indeed something that we all struggle with 😂 It does come down to practice, but you can practice smarter if you know what you're struggling with of course. In my case, I had 2 major issues. 1. I had was trouble pushing the nose forward once I was rolling. And it turned out that I just needed to push the nose forward much harder than when I was doing the ollie stationary. And 2. I wasn't popping straight down once I was rolling. I was trying to jump forward a bit and that really killed my pop. So, I focused on getting a better leveled out stationary ollie and then I started the roll at a crawling pace. I went super slow to make sure I didn't sacrifice any of the form I was practicing. And it helped so much. It's now much easier to ollie while rolling. I hope that helps for now!! 😃💪 have fun practicing!

@@SarahParkMatott hey thanks so much for your reply! And good to hear a tutorial is coming 😁 I still have to wait a few weeks before "my spot" is not covered in snow anymore, but I'm definitely gonna start on the carpet right away. Thanks again, I obviously subscribed so I won't miss future videos hehe
