"As Catholics, we are taught how to repeat ... old people in their deathbed remember the Our Father Prayer" ... ohmy that is so true. When i did my work experience in an aged care home, i'd keep company a group of ladies with different levels of dementia. And the Catholic ladies they still remember "Hail Mary ... Our Father" prayers ... maybe not the complete prayer but most words.

Hey Father! You are so Inspirational.I want to share something that I find helpful to my spiritual growth is for me when I awake, to offer my entire day to the Lord. This would include my exercise, my work, my relationships with others, as well as my misfortunes and negligence in seeking Him more deeply as I should. Then when I have more time for deeply contemplative prayer and intimacy with Jesus, I pick back up where I left off from the morning. I encourage others, to talk to Jesus throughout the day by incorporating your daily activities with Him. I have received many blessings from Him living this way. God bless you and your listeners!

This interview has been a big help. I am not Catholic but I am drawn to it. I honestly want to know more. I've listened to 'the Bible in a year' podcast 5 times already and I absolutely love it. As far as knowing how to pray I need a lot of help. I find myself being selfish so I need to understand how I can pray without unloading my wants and really talk to God with sincere adoration leaving out my desires. This interview was helpful and I thank ya'll from the bottom of my heart.

The rosary hits the time factor no doubt--20 to 30 minutes for me, for an individual. Sure it's repeating, but something happens when you take your time with it which still takes 20 to 30 minutes; focus on the mysteries. I can't explain it well, Father probably can, but you definitely feel you spent time with the Lord after it, enough time; more than enough. And if you do it early, first fruits as Father Mike has said in other videos, you are so much more focused on the day. What you need to do, and more drive to do it. Plus more focus and ability to avoid sins. Then praying with someone else, rosary is a great prayer for that, too. Two or more, I call my sister and we pray a couple of times a week over the phone, haha. Technology for the win.

Sometimes it is nice to just be with the Lord. If you have said your general prayer and don’t know what else to say, you can always just say that God knows what is in your heart and what your needs are, you don’t have to say it out loud. Just be with him. I personally try to read the daily readings on Laudate and the reflection with my morning coffee. As Fr Mike said, any prayers from that point forward us working on that relationship with God. The rosary while commuting is also a wonderful way to spend that time. The words pray for us now and at the hour of our death is quite comforting during travel as if you were to die, isn’t it wonderful that you are asking the mother of Jesus to pray for you. Great interview!

I have learned through the Prayer and Life Workshops to rest in the Lord through contemplation. There are many forms of prayer recited prayers are one of them. The important thing to remember is that the objective is not to recite them automatically but to take each phrase and offer it to our Lord from our heart as if it were our own words. Then these words have a true meaning as we use them to lift our hearts to the Lord. If there is a phrase that touches our heart, we can pause for a moment in silence as we place ourselves in the presence of the Lord. During this silence we open our hearts to the Lord so that his love may fill us and fill us with his peace.

WOW-what an amazing interview! The picture of going to prayer/Adoration just to BEHOLD GOD and to be HELD BY HIM...that is so moving and brought tears to my eyes. And actually yesterday when I went to Adoration, I did not read the Adoration book that I had brought with me. Instead I did just try and sit there in silence. Well darn-I found that I had closed my eyes and had taken a little nap. Fail!! When I shifted my position and woke myself up, I reached for my Rosary to say the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Maybe I just need to try again with the picture of Beholding Jesus and being Held by Him... Thanks for this-I thoroughly enjoyed this❣️

@@footballforever3065 I guess you reject the Lord's Prayer commonly referred to as the Our Father. I say that all the time. You only said it once in your life and never again? I guess the living things in heaven saying holy holy holy Lord God of hosts... Over and over again are objectional to God as well. Reading scripture is also prayer. To read it more than once is a waste of time. have you ever asked a friend to pray for you or has a friend ever asked you to pray for them? Why are you doing that why don't you just go directly to God. I guess you have no family pictures in your home either? Pictures and statues of saints our pictures and statues our Christian family. I wish you were around years ago. You are addressing answers that, I think, are universal questions but have never heard anyone discuss. So many people quit praying even before they get started. They pray for something that is truly not for selfish reasons and get no (apparent ) answer. They try it again and again and then just stop because they now feel no one is there. This was the same for people generations ago but they didn't give up. I think they prayed for their children and hoped even if God didn't answer them He would take care of their children. I don't think people back then prayed for themselves as much, they prayed for each other.

Terberkatilah Hati Maria yang tak bernoda. Terberkatilah Santo Yudas Tadeus. Diseluruh bumi dan selalu disepanjang masa. Amin.

It is not right to say Catholics are not taught to pray they are taught to repeat. Perhaps you had a bad teacher but my mom tuaght me to Mean the Words, listen to the words your saying so even though its the same prayer I have memorized it is Prayer from the heart.

Glad that you that teaching when you were young but it is entirely fair to say that the vast majority of us Catholics are not taught to pray with connection. Especially in the context that Fr Mike is speaking into here which is modern day Ireland.

Thank you for addressing some of my major concerns about personal prayer! For years I felt frustrated with rote prayers, and especially with the rosary, because I knew the words so well I didn’t need to think about them and my thoughts went wool-gathering all over the place, even though I wanted to be present when I prayed. About 18 months ago I got really frustrated because I spent a lot of time on social media but somehow couldn’t find time for regular prayer. Soon after, I discovered the YouCat app, which now helps me to start each day with God in spite of my short attention span, and a couple of channels like CTM which have been of great help. As a result, my prayer life has definitely changed for the better.

Again this guy represents the"new modern" Catholic priest. He speaks more like a Protestant than a Catholic. Although what he says is not untrue, he says it in a Protestant perspective. So I dont want to say he is lying but he fails to teach the Catholic perspective. Contemplative prayer is new age not Catholic prayer. Catholics need to learn and understand that our prayers and faith is perfect the way it is. It doesnt need to be " re-imagined."

Countless saints, doctors of the church, and church fathers would disagree with you. There’s nothing New Age about contemplative prayer, it’s been a Catholic practice since the early days of the Church (see St John Chrysostum and St Antony of the Desert) although one which is greatly misunderstood today. We’d highly recommend reading anything by St Teresa of Avila on prayer. “Contemplative prayer is nothing else than a close sharing between friends.” - St Teresa of Avila (16th Century)
