I've been watching bowling videos since Brunsnick in the mid 2000's. JR has been without a doubt the most informative and best content, along with BradandKyle. Keep doing your thing man. Your great for the sport!

hey JR, just wanted to let you know how helpful your videos have been to me. I just recently purchased my first ball a month ago, had to relearn everything from years just playing with lane balls. Brought my average up to 163 and just bowled my best game ever this week (223). thanks for all the help!

One of the most concise to the point videos about how to generate revs. That last point is so important, for getting under the ball. Thanks JR.

Thanks JR. Good tips to help us get more revs in our release. You have no idea how you've been a great help to us, avid bowlers, to improve our game. More power and success.

Thanks JR, the yo-yo analogy and going from cupped to uncupped has helped so much for me. I was even when I bowled relatively well launching it because my thumb would get stuck. This has been a game changer for sure and my rev rate has probably doubled.

You are the best coach on KZbin and the way you explain things is outstanding.I ve been trying to improve my game some time now and your videos helped me improve a lot.Thank you so much for the effort you put to this.Hope to see some more awesome content.Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the video JR. I've practiced the yo-yo release, but never really understood the timing between going cupped wirst to uncupped to coming up with the fingers. But today, after watching the video, I was encouraged to try and had some success "catching it at the bottom" by coming up with the fingers just as soon as I begin uncupping. My release still needs work, but I'm encouraged.

1. Thumb release quicker than fingers 2. cuffed to uncuffed wrist yoyo 3. elbow bend in downswing coming through

Good video, for me the most helpful videos were increasing speed and the keeping straight your arm straight as they are my weaknesses...I guess I’m lucky that I’m happy with my rev rate

It's great how you've clearly broken down the three elements. I still have difficulty understanding the RELATIVE timing of (1) the thumb release and (2) the wrist un-cupping. Does one start first? Can you explain?

Hi JR. Your videos have been a great help so far so thanks!! I was curious. How do you tell if your thumb is coming out late? Is there a feel to it? I think I might suffer from this but I don't really understand the timing of when the thumb should come out and what it should feel like if that makes sense.

Hi JR, great video. I've been bowling for awhile and I've always bowled without my thumb. Recently, I bought a new ball (Storm Code X) and decided that I would try and make the adjustment and start bowling with my thumb. Needless to say, I've struggled with this change. There are moments when I feel like I have it, but more often than not, I'm frustrated by not being able to curve the ball like I used to, without my thumb. Any advice to help smooth out this process? I expected it to be challenging, but I almost feel like I'm better off bowling like I used to. Thanks again, for all your videos, they do help a lot. Respectfully, Marvin

I squeezed the ball and never had a problem cranking it. My thumb pitches were half away and half reverse. I got my thumb out fast

Just a question on the cup with the dishes in order for me to do this I do feel as if I’m holding onto the wall is it because I’m doing it incorrectly it does appear as if you’re grabbing onto the Ball as well

As a beginner it’s incredibly difficult to cup the wrist or even hold it straight at the release with a 15lb ball. Should I work on proper technique with a much lighter ball, or will that give me bad habits getting used to a light ball?

Is yo yo release for spinner or semi roller bowler. Where the oil tracks on ball goes. With yo yo release I can bowl with spinner tracks? How I have to do differently that I can roll semi roller ball.

Is there a vid on his channel about how to be more consistent?
@S1rWakka4 жыл бұрын
Consistency is mostly about doing the same move a lot to create muscle memory. This also requires you taping yourself so you can immediately after the shot check whether you're not deviating from your ideal form.

Footwork is the only way to get consistency.

I use a wrist positioner this applies as well? What's the best way to 1 lay the ball on the lane faster? AND get my thumb out first?
@tonysorisio70734 жыл бұрын
Clockwise release is not common but by rotating your thumb from 9 oclock to 1 at release will put your ball on your hand with fingers in position to lift the ball out onto the lane

I am 54, started bowling in my 20's and stopped for at least 20+ years. Now I can't seem to get behind the ball, perhaps it'll come as forearm strength returns, but find myself releasing on the side of the ball. . Frustrating

My thumb creates a loud "pop" on my release. Is that good or bad? My pro shop says it's good but not many bowlers in my league make that "pop" sound.
@louispounds74865 жыл бұрын
Not good, go to another pro shop and ask them.
@raydoraymefa57325 жыл бұрын
Grantsdad98: I had a similar thumb-hole popping problem right after buying a new ball (happened at least twice). The popping is the air rushing back into the thumb hole upon release, because your thumb made an airtight contact with the thumb hole. It IS a problem, since the ball tends to grip your thumb longer. I overcame this problem by using a cylindrical file and to create a small, long groove in the BACK of the thumb hole so that the thumb didn't create an airtight seal anymore. Be sure to round out any edges so the ball doesn't crack or chip at that point.
@doctorrobert605 жыл бұрын
For quite some time my Pro Shop driller has been drilling a tiny hole from outside the ball that ends in the base of the thumb hole basically creating a venting effect. I rarely hang up in the ball and never have the popping sound. Works for me but may not be for everyone. You might ask your Pro about this.
@dvdkbk85205 жыл бұрын
I was getting that loud pop when i went to a vinyl slug, turns out i was getting hung up a lot more. Had the slug widened because my thumb changes all through the night. Now i have just a slightly larger than perfect fit so i can utilize tape and that has opened up air channels eliminating the suction and getting me out of the ball quicker. There is still a slight pop, but unless the lanes are empty and youre not listening for it intently, you wont hear it.

You don't need high rev rate to score high. Years ago pros were scoring high without it

Whenever I actually try to get revs, I accidentally hold onto the ball a bit too long and loft it. Not too high, but enough to make me cringe a bit.

It's gonna not sound right just hearing it but once you start your downswing let go of your thumb. It sounds like you'd dump it straight into the approach but it works. That was the best advice that I ever got from years of coaching when I was a junior
@epickett635 жыл бұрын
I have a different problem. When I try to increase the revs, I end up throwing it a lot faster. So any extra revs I *might* have gotten on the shot are overpowered by the speed...
