Software Engineer salary in the IT Industry has remained stagnant for two decades. How to increase salary is a common question amongst IT Professionals. But most salary negotiation techniques don't work for various reasons. In this scenario, if you want your income to change whether you are working for TCS or Infosys or Amazon or Facebook you can watch this video to find the best way to increase your salary.
You may have to watch this video multiple times because, in this video, I am discussing the 4 important steps you can take as a software engineer to become eligible for a higher salary. Engineers who understand this are able to go from 3.2 LPA to 10 LPA in less than 2 years' time with dedicated effort.
Every software engineer has a ranking A, B, and C within a company. This rank decides your income within the company and also within the industry. What are the skills you need, what is the way to work, and how do companies decide this rank? will decide your value or income within the company. Watch this video and take action so that you get your next promotion that is 3x to 4x times better than your current income.

@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 4 жыл бұрын
Though the company takes new people at a lower salary. They cannot keep people at lower salaries. They have to give an increment. That is when they will decide who are the A, B, C, and D Players in the company. Based on that you get the increment or you don't get the increment. In times like this Covid 19 pandemic, there are chances that all the increments are stopped. But as soon as the situation is normal again the increments will start. The companies keep looking at their employee pool and are always trying to find out who is doing a better job. Without that the company cannot survive. You should strive to improve yourself to an extent that your manager will always pick you when they have to give an increment. If you don't know What is an A, B, and C Players then WATCH this FREE VIdeo 👉 www.iturnimaginationtoreality.com/invisible-position/

I have seen a pattern in my IT company/Projects where managers keep on changing after every 6 months. Hence, there is no proper tracking of our efforts.
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 4 жыл бұрын
That is fine. Remember that the managers are also reporting to someone above them. Whoever is above will know your name if you do the right thing. In fact it is easier if your manager keeps changing because for some reason if you did not make an impression with one manager the next one you can make. Remember - first impression equals last impression. So it will be difficult if you stay with one manager for a very long time.

Hi sir, I am working in support project for last one yr.. In my team they r just gave me the role of monitoring the job.. So... for the last one yr I have not learnt any thing in my project.. They gave KT about overall work flow of project.. I am trying to interfere in automation process but they are not ready to give the work like that. They are thinking that I am not eligible.. Because I am from non IT background.. I know only sql..and I don't want to change my project. Please guide me sir .what type of course I can do to prove myself ..and what type of technology i can learn to improve my skills and salary?
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 3 жыл бұрын
You can start by learning some good programming language. If your company has certain programming languages and framework they are focusing on then you should find out and then do an appropriate course. Also you cannot interfere in any project unless you have the skills. Because that can be a disaster. Just imagine if you are just the Cabin Crew in an Aircraft and now you say you want to fly an aircraft. That will be a disaster for all the passengers. In the same manner if the automation goes wrong then it can become a disaster for the clients of the company and no company or project manager will allow that. When you say you are doing a monitoring job. You have a good amount of time. Start learning things on your own. Not on the live project. On the side by your own. By reading books. By doing online courses. Your destiny is in your hands. Nobody will help you if you dont help yourself. Do your current job so well that when you get the right skills your managers will be ready to promote you. You can ask your managers what skills you will need to change from monitoring to whatever other job you want to do. Probably your manager may be able to help. I hope this helps.

@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 4 жыл бұрын
Since you are already working on the Administration of Linux Servers, the best certification would be RHCE or Red Hat Certified Engineers course. Red Hat is the most popular program as far as Linux is concerned. The other career path would be to transition into Cloud Server Management for that you have to get AWS (Amazon Web Services certification) or GCP (Google Cloud Platform) that will expand your skills into the latest technologies. Do the one that you like the most, and it will be easy for you to learn. Remember, if you practice one skill and become an expert in that one skill better than everybody else, then you can become indispensable.

Sandesh, when you do good work then it can work in any field in any area of expertise. The biggest problem is the perceptions people have about certain things and roles. In any field if you gain valuable knowledge and become better than everyone else in their field then offcourse your income will rise according to that. Yes one thing is that income is different for different areas of expertise. So in some cases the income can rise fast in other cases your income can rise slowly. But the important part is to become someone whose income keeps rising so that at a later date people see you as an expert. In your field you will have to move into management roles as soon as possible.

The solution should be generic but you talked for a particular company or MNC. What if someone is working in a startup or someone lost the job or not getting job? Do you have a solution?
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 3 жыл бұрын
This solution is for someone who already has a job and is working in some company. It is generic to that level. If someone lost their job then they have to work to get back another job. Losing job is not a problem in today's date. There can be 100s of reasons. But it is better to immediately find another job instead of brooding over lost job. Once you have a job then again do the same things I have mentioned in the video.

Sir I am currently working in mainframe .I know it is a legacy tech part. I have been started learning data science since 1 month. How can I deal with my manager to change my technology to data science when i will have completed the course .
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 4 жыл бұрын
The first thing is to complete the course well. Take your time when you are close to completing your course - find out in your company - what is the process of changing your project. Once you complete your certification, then you initiate the process. Also, at this time, don't start any discussion with your manager. This can hurt your career. Once the time is appropriate, only then you initiate a conversation. Remember, when you complete learning data science, you may automatically find opportunities that you never thought before. You may also find an opportunity outside your company. Achieving a goal like this is like planting a tree. You cannot hurry the process, or the tree will never grow. Put all your energy into becoming the best in data science. Find people who are already in this field. Talk to them. See what kind of work they are doing. Go step by step. But don't talk to your manager till you are confident that if you don't get a change in your existing company, you are also capable of quitting. Also do some certification because changing your field will require a tangible proof that you have done what you say you have done. Check the article or document I have shared. Best wishes.

The TCS Ninja offer is for people who join the Technical Stream of TCS. For HR I am not sure they will consider your MBA. They will consider you fresh based on your MBA in HR. PLEASE ANSWER MY QUERIES!!!!!!! Sir I'm a civil engineering who got placed in TCS as ASSISTANT SYSTEM ENGINEER. I got placed because of my python skills but I'm not a master just a beginner. Now 1. What are the skills should I develop? 2. Is that possible for me to continue my career in IT sector? And is that a good decision?
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 4 жыл бұрын
It is very good that you got placed because of your programming skills in Python. You already know that you are not a master. This is a good beginning. Now you learn everything you can possibly learn while working. On the side do some Python Courses. Like Advanced Python Programming where you will learn about Data Structures using Python. Or Learn Full Stack Development using Django (Django is a Python based library) this will enhance your career. So dont worry too much about what projects you are getting in your company. Those project you do. Make sure that you do then efficiently and productively. But spend at least one or two hours outside work to become as good as possible in Python. May be after one year you become an expert with Django. Use that to get promotions within your company. Better projects within your company. Next year learn Data Science and AI and ML using Python. Again during appraisals enhance your career. Even within TCS within one or two years you can enhance your career. Once you have good experience in TCS as well as you have certificates from outside. Make a decision. Do you want to stay here or do you want to work for a Startup or a product company? You can only decide when you come to that point. Till then enjoy your time at TCS working and learning and having fun with your friends. Best wishes.

Focus on your exam. Prepare for it. Unhappiness will not help you. You have very less choice about what kind of projects you will get in your career. But how to do the project is in your hands. Also instead of learning focus on doing. Focus on what is required to be delivered and learn only that much. It is a very simple maths. In cricket when the runs on the scoreboard are high then you have to make more runs per over. In the same way when you have a lot to do then you need to stop wasting your time and focus only on what is important.

@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 3 жыл бұрын
In any domain you have to find out what is the Vertical Growth that is a growth in your role and position. Or Horizontal Growth which comes by learning new tools and technologies that are important in your domain. So for IMS first focus on Horizontal Growth. Identify and learn the Tools and Technologies that are important in your Domain. Then you aim for Vertical Growth where you go from Individual Performer to Managing a Team. That is the best way to grow your career in any domain.

Hi sir, I joined as fresher last year January. In my company there are 2 cycle Dec and July. I did exceptionally well and handled entire application by myself also fixed a bug which was pending from even before I started. For this I received most prestigious award from my organization in dec. In December they did not give me any hike telling I didn not complete a year yet so I am not eligible for that. In June they gave me just 10 percent hike for 3.8lpa. My manager did not have a conversation with me about hike or performance. They just directly updated in my tool. I am totally depressed because all the hardwork I did last year did not pay off. Someone who did nothing got better or same hike as me. If I ask my team lead about my promotion or hike he says all freshers are on default. What should I do?

Remember that your career is not 6 months or 1 year long. It is 40 years or 480 months or 2080 weeks or 14600 days long. So don't worry too much about any particular appraisal. See and plan your career every 3 years. If you don't get what you want in 3 years in one company then it is advisable to change. Also, frustration does not help. That makes matters worse. Watch the movie The Banker.

Hi sir I did btech CSE, I am working in Cognizant (Cts) in July I will complete my 1 year, I want work in azure or programming but I got support work solving tickets, sending mails to customers, my manager told me for 2 years we will do this only. Can I think for changing company with 1 year experience my notification time to inform manager I am leaving this company is 3 months or atleast I have to work for 2 years because it will eliminate aptitude rounds & I will directly get technical rounds or it will be good that I will do mtech from a college like lovely Professional University coz i did btech cse from their only which option is more good please suggest.
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 4 жыл бұрын
This is the shortest path to what you want to do. If your manager says you need to do this only for 2 years. Then you should continue doing this. But not for two years. You first build your profile for working on Azure. Check this page amitpatels.com/resources on that you will find a PDF that you can download. In that you will find the Cloud Computing Section. In that you will find some Azure Courses. Either you can take those courses and get a certification or you can find any other better Azure Certification while you work on your job. Please understand if you want to do a Job then a gap in the job can be very difficult to explain. Also you are lucky in these times because there are 1000s of engineers who may have completed CSE with you but still don't have a job. You can already see the economy. Companies have almost frozen hiring. So switching job can be unrealistic at this moment. In the mean time you can upgrade your skills to azure by learning and studying on the side from some authorative places. That way once you have a certificate you can decide whether you want to continue or you want to switch within your own organisation or you want to leave and join a better place that is ready to provide you with better projects and work that you love to do. I hope this helps you. Best wishes.

Hi Himank, In my career spanning more than 23 years - it did not matter much on which company I am working for. The only thing that mattered to me was how was I doing my work. Was I really giving my best? Only that matters. When you put the onus on the company to be good. Then you are giving an excuse for yourself that your situation is because of the company. Then you stop investing your time, money and energy in your own development. In becoming better than what you already are. But when you say no matter what company or industry I am working for - I am going to find out how I can do best in whatever is given to me. Then you are going to unlock your full potential. You are going to become someone who starts attracting opportunities that you didn't even know existed.

So they will have to start somewhere. After that they have to apply the same principles of success. @MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 4 жыл бұрын
Having skills and being able to do something with those skills are two different things. Remember that when you start with a new skill you will be starting from zero. Because your BPO experience has no value in what you are pursuing unless you are planning to work in a department that makes BPO software. Based on what you have mentioned here. The first things you can do is learn SQL and give a certification exam from Microsoft to show how much you know. Then you can approach your manager or HR for a transition. Another long term strategy is to learn data science from reputed place. In the description of this video I have linked top courses for Data Science. Data Science is here to stay for a long time. If you like working with data then that is the way to go. It may take a few months to a year to master skills in data science but if you go with that objective then you will have set a long term career in IT industry.

Definitely missing about project alloted money, let's say 100rs alloted for the respective year, if 20 members are in team, manger has to choose 20% of A band ,60% of B band , 20% of C band from team members I.e 4, 12, 4 and even 0 hike given for Band c people , remaining 16 people has share 100rs , 30 rs for Band A , 70rs For band B, again 4 members from Band A has to share 30rs , if you are having less current CTC or very small team handling big product only you could see 30% hike , it's all about sharing the Money from tiny percentage of profit got for any company
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 2 жыл бұрын
The money is not alloted to a project. The money is in the entire business. Within the business it can happen that in a particular project everyone is a B or C Player. Because that project is not doing as well as it should. Whereas there is another project which may have all A players because that project is doing really well. The 20%, 70% and 10% distribution is across the entire company and never to individual project. Also the employees will be ranked across the business and not on individual projects. This is very complex and only the Senior Management will have the vision of these things. You can watch this video if you want to understand further 👉 bit.ly/aplayervid

Hi Sir. Good evening. I hope you are doing well. Watched this video just after completing my WFH (Work From Home). Very useful and excellent video. Subscribed to the same. Coming to myself, I got placed in HCL technologies this month for the same experienced role (Service Desk) in the Support Services domain (for Servicenow tool) where I have overall 5.2 years of experience in the same. Now I want to learn Python and move to the technical side where I can enhance my skills for good career growth instead of working in the Support Services domain again. I want to start with the course ASAP and try for the opportunities internally in my current company either for the same Servicenow tool (Architecture) (or) for a different Python project. Can you please suggest me which one would be better after learning Python and the way to approach for a good career in the same and with a salary hike as I'm with a different experience?
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 4 жыл бұрын
If you have already decided that you want to learn Python then the first step is to learn Python really well. The thing is when you learn Python you will automatically see other opportunities coming up to you which you may not even be thinking about now. There are two ways to climb a career ladder one is to stay with one company as long as possible. Satya Nadela stayed for Microsoft for 22 years. But within Microsoft he was constantly learning and doing bigger and better projects. The other way is to jump around a bit from one place to another depending on what excites you and where you find an outlet for your knowledge. But the starting point is learning Python. Do that first, once you are comfortable with Python see if there are opportunities in your company with that or if you have to switch then switch.

Salary Hike I want to address independently. Salary hike has many things. If you want a Salary Hike then one way is to enhance your skills as I have mentioned in this video. Another way is to enhance your potential. Enhance your potential means asking yourself one what is your current hourly rate. Then thinking about if you had to increase this rate then how would you have to work so that your current hourly rate can increase. You have 5.2 years experience. Look at your experience and think when you were promoted what did your manager say. If you never got a good promotion in the last 5 years then ask yourself what you are lacking. First look at your self. Not your skills. Look at your own qualities, traits and characteristics before you look at your skills. There are far better skilled people than you who may not even have a job, just because they don't know how to communicate. So understand that your salary is a sum total of what you do. It is a result of the work you do. So think about this work that you are doing. Are you doing something that will demand a higher salary? Or are you just one in many who can easily be replaced without notice. Think about your salary in this manner. Learn skills - but more importantly master your qualities, traits and characteristics that will get you where you want to go.

This depends on engineer to engineer. I have met a lot of people in Software over the age of 50 who are still working in that field and thriving. So I dont believe in this.

How to negotiate hike?
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 4 жыл бұрын
In my experience negotiation for salary hike does not work like we want. Because in bargaining, you have to prove your value to your boss instead of your boss discovering your talent and value. So I am asking you to focus on things within your control. Negotiation is a very delicate skill. And when you start then, it can leave both you and your boss frustrated. Instead of that, you should accept your current salary hike and then talk to your boss. You should tell him that you want to do well in your job and would like his advice on how to improve. Then you religiously improve in the next one year. You eill get a hike without asking. Make sure you always report on your progress.

Lol.. This depends on lot of factors, like how close are you with managers and showcasing your work, Still You may end up getting 5 Percent more than average which is not worth the effort and gamble, Instead why don't you do start sharpening your skills instead of wasting time on weekends there are lot of resource and free lance work, once you have the notch start switching companies for every 2-3 years, This will immediately boost your package and also the array of tools and experience of different job domains and work environment.
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 3 жыл бұрын
I agree you need to sharpen your skills. But don't you think technical skills are overrated compared to the 80% of work we have in the industry. As a CSE you may end up in a job where you are building forms for rest of your life even if you are the ninja master of .NET or Java. Then what is the use of the skills. Well, Technical Skills are not the ultimate thing that gets you big promotions. There are other factors and that is the reason even with best skills you may end up getting just 5% better than your colleagues. Because there is a CAP on how much technical skills you can use on a project. But think if you have an amazing skill to handle the client. Then that becomes a better skill than your technical skills. We can agree to disagree with each other but Technical Skill can only get you so far. When you have the skills that company is looking for then you can be the Usain Bolt of your Company in Appraisals.

Yes but MBA will not have an advantage over your technical skills. Unless you are going into Management in Software Companies. You can certainly do MBA and then look at some Senior Management Roles like Director, VP or even CEO where your MBA and your previous software development experience will be very useful.

If you think it is easy you are right. If you think it is not easy then also you are right. Thoughts create beliefs. Beliefs lead to action. Action produce results. So the way you think produces your results.

Simple trick : Let's Assume current package is 3Lpa Get 5-6 Lpa pakage Again show 5-6 lpa to another company they will give at least 7-8 lpa its maximum Amount that you will get.
@MusingsbyAmit
@MusingsbyAmit 2 жыл бұрын
By changing companies you will only get a limited salary raise. When you start changing yourself then the raise will be beyond what you think. The simple trick is not so simple after all. Because it is not necessary that you will get a salary raise if you keep doing the same thing. Unless you have acquired skills and knowledge to differentiate yourself from a person at 3 LPA package and show that you are capable for 8 LPA package only then you will get that kind of salary. People who have really invested their time, energy and money in upgrading their skills and improving their qualities have even got a 400% hike.

Sycophancy is the key in companies like TCS
@MusingsbyAmit

If you go ahead and build a company even a small company. You will realize that you will keep people in your organization who agree with your views and remove those who don't. So this is a very natural state of any human being. A person who uploads a comment on social media - waits for likes and dislikes is also kind of what you mention. I cannot even pronounce that so I will not go into that word you have used. I look at it like this. If you decide to work for any company, no matter how big or small, then you have to understand the vision of the company, the vision of the project you are doing, and try to do everything that is aligned with taking that vision ahead. That is the easiest route to success. For some reason, if you are not aligned with the vision of the company. Then that company or place is not for you. You should quit that place. I learned this very soon in life that to achieve even moderate success in life - you have to align with the people with whom you are working. And if you don't like that then you should leave that place to find a place that you like. I have achieved some success through these simple principles.

@@MusingsbyAmit thank you for the reply Amit. I did Btech CS and joined TCS but I feel that I am not made for IT industries.I don't like to take calls morning and evening.Just to listen things like Are we good?We are good.Good to go. I think that IT has created a fake environment around.I have experienced a lot of fake people in these companies. Nor they pay good but also force to work on weekends without any compensation. I fell the HR and Rmg are also useless persons doing no real work. I know I don't want to work for IT but nor I am preparing for govt jobs nor I am enjoying my current job. I can't change myself the way someone likes. I am in real mess.Work is burden for me and the toxicity of environment makes it even more difficult.

Hey Rajat, I can understand. You will find such problems not just in TCS but every other company. Not just in IT field but every other field. If you want to be successful then you need to know how to navigate all the things you dont like and still achieve excellence in your work. That is why not every one is successful. You will see the same people in the same companies rise to the top. They have learned to navigate this corporate challenges and rise above the rest. I am currently working on a program for professionals to achieve excellence. When I have it ready I will let you know. Best wishes.
