Dr, what do you think about Maca for hormonal balance? Thanks
@DrKateLyzengaDean10 ай бұрын
Like I mentioned in the video, "hormonal balance" is much to broad to be solved by a single nutrient or herb. Maca might be helpful under one set of circumstances, or actively push you the wrong direction under different circumstances. I'm advocating that we start discussing more specific issues (like low progesterone, estrogen dominance, low T, etc.). That's what I cover in my NEW Hormone Balance Deep Dive - check it out here: www.drkateld.com/hormone-balance-deep-dive-info-page

I’m 4 years post meno, on bhrt E-+ P, still depressed though, lacking libido and passion for life. I’ve tried T cream, gave me headache and hair loss ( gave it to my husband as a face cream 😂). I cannot afford a Dutch test unfortunately, but I’m pretty sure I’m low as I havw all the symptoms despite having an immaculate diet, daily exercise and some body resistance lifting in yoga and using ankle weights. I’ve had some small improvements with herbal ‘passion patch’ for men ( 1/2 of it). Trying dhea topical oil diluted in infused oil of tribulus , fenugreek and wild yam, can only have a low dose.. I’m sensing our endogenous T is more refined than just supplementing it and there may be other unnamed compounds in the whole picture …
@DrKateLyzengaDean2 ай бұрын
Testosterone can be metabolized into other active hormones and metabolites, for sure - the regulation of endogenous vs. supplementary could be the issue here, but it's hard to say

Hi doctor. My DHEA level is 128. My T levels are: 18 (total testosterone) and 1.6 (free T). Am I reading this correctly- my DHEA levels are normal but T levels are low? So DHEA is not to blame here?
@DrKateLyzengaDean10 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, I can't confirm this conclusion for a few reasons: 1) without knowing A LOT more specifics about you and your health, it would be irresponsible for me to provide any specific lab analysis, especially here in the KZbin comments 😆 I'd hate to further muddy the waters or steer you in the wrong direction! 2) It makes a difference if you're measuring total DHEA vs. DHEA-S which is only one metabolite of DHEA. And these levels do vary by age, as does testosterone. And, again, I can't do that in the comments. That said, if you're looking for guidance for your situation - which it sounds like you are - you're welcome to apply for a 1:1 consultation with me (bit.ly/drkate1on1)! I’ve got a result of 0.46 ng/ml of testosterone, is it normal?
@DrKateLyzengaDean5 ай бұрын
Out of context, I can't say for sure! There are lots of different testosterone levels - total? free? SO much depends on your specific situation.
@The_New_Abnormal_World_Order4 ай бұрын
Is pg/ml the same as ng/ml?? My total testosterone was 1.45 nmol/L .... so that is 0.41 ng/mL ... or 41.82 ng/dL. I'm confused, it came up as normal on my blood test. The free androgen index was only 0.73, which is near the bottom of normal range, and SHBG elevated at 200 nmol/L. I have symptoms of low testosterone and just started testosterone cream. I didn't want to try and wait for the SHBG to normalize because I'm desperate to improve my symptoms. The SHBG was probably elevated due to a medication I was taking that I have since stopped. or, it could be due to the fact I'm taking levothyroxine and liothyronine.
@DrKateLyzengaDean4 ай бұрын
Even if your total testosterone is in the optimal range, if it's bound up by SHBG it's not able to bind to testosterone receptors - hence, low T symptoms. Adding more T may or may not overcome this binding problem. Definitely worth digging deeper into the source of elevated SHBG.
@Frederiekje2212 ай бұрын
Could the low testosterone be caused by relationships where their partner puts them down, makes them feel small? I know that a social "victory" elevates testosteron in the victor and lowers it in the loser. Is that what can be going on in women? Besides the pill?
@DrKateLyzengaDean2 ай бұрын
That's an interesting point! I don't know of any research studies about this specific situation, but it wouldn't surprise me if relationship stress could contribute to lower testosterone.

Ummm...if your goal is to grow facial hair, raising testosterone can help but it would have to be a very high dose. Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not.
