Personally I watched it on 1.5X speed, but that's just my personal preference. I appreciate when people speak slowly and clearly for others to understand, because those of us who want to watch it at a higher speed can it just choose a faster setting. I wish more people paid attention to the playback controls, because I've seen people give up on a video that they think is "too slow."

Exposing your body to cold conditions in moderation (cold plunge, showers,, splashing water on your face) helps tone the vagus nerve, which helps improve parasympathetic signaling - the opposite of fight-or-flight and adrenaline. Research also shows it to be beneficial to circulation and the immune system. Warm showers feel good, and can be relaxing, but there is solid scientific research that explains why cold therapy helps regulate stress, not create it. Many find it invigorating, not torturous! I think both can be helpful in different situations 👍🏼

Healthy carbohydrates can be useful for regulating blood sugar, but only when balanced by proteins, fats, and fiber. Hi, Patty! There are lots of reasons why you could be doing all the right things with lifestyle and still struggle to lose weight. Cortisol problems are one of those potential root causes, as are hormone problems (given your need for a hysterectomy, I'd look there, too). Low hormones like testosterone or thyroid could also impact weight loss now that you're in menopause. I take raw adrenal of my choosing, Standard Process, from a chiro friend's supplement cabinet presently, and ginko biloba, Progressive Professional brand, I get from a nearby compound pharmacy.) Does it have to be fish oil? I take an omega DHA supplement that is algae based. I've always heard that taking fish oil is unnecessary because the fish's healthy fats come from the algae THEY eat. I'm a whole food plant-based vegan and I don't eat fish for ethical reasons. I went to a naturopath a few years ago and agreed to take fish oil for a few months and I didn't see any difference compared to my regular vegan supplement. I actually didn't feel or look different at all from taking any DHA supplement so I'm just not sure which one is better or if it makes a difference at all?

Hello Dr. Kate, I have CFS and chronic stress, I am doing a lot of your tips and prevention in general. Except for the coffee. I drink only 1 cup of coffee a day ( a mild one, really not strong) with almond milk and no sugar. Is this 1 cup already to much for my system? Should I stop drinking this 1 cup of coffee to improve my cortisol? Thank you in advance.

Ideally, yes. Even mild coffee has a lot of caffeine in it. You could try decaf!

Dr Kate, I’m having a terrible time with anxiety and depression ( due to a tmj problem) I was recently put on Prozac for depression and lorazepam for anxiety. First time in my life taking pharmaceuticals. I wake up every morning and have severe anxiety and it lasts for hours. It feels like my cortisol and adrenaline are out of control. Shaky and so agitated. Desperate to seek alternative ways to bring down my stress levels. Are there any suggestions on your part which would help me? I want to heal my body not just manage symptoms.

Is it true that resistance exercises cause high cortisol for people who are easily exposed to high levels of cortisol, and what is the appropriate alternative or thing in this case?
@DrKateLyzengaDean6 ай бұрын
Cortisol is a tricky one to generalize - it really depends on so many factors. That said, moderate amounts of resistance exercise seems to have more positives than negatives when it comes to overall health - so perhaps the answer is moderation!

After years of being overweight and sedentary, i started excercising and this when issues started,puffy face, waking up at 3am😢 does excercising cause stress to my body?
@DrKateLyzengaDean4 ай бұрын
Exercise causes something called eustress - basically, moderate and beneficial stress. That said, negative side effects can happen if you don't "work up" to moderate exercise (when you haven't done any for many years). The exercise itself isn't bad - you just need a slower ramp-up.

Hello Doctor. I have essential tremor, not Parkinson's disease. When I hold a glass of water, my hands tremble and I feel embarrassed. When a problem occurs in front of me, my body trembles, my heartbeat increases, and I find it difficult to speak. A neurologist prescribed an anticonvulsant drug (Mysoline). It was an effective treatment and the tremor disappeared, but it had annoying side effects. Are there nutritional supplements to treat my condition

There are definitely Functional Medicine strategies to help with neurological conditions like essential tremor - OR sometimes these strategies can compensate for annoying side effects of anticonvulsant drugs (which tend to deplete certain micronutrients).

By my doctors I take progesterone and estrodoul. And for the anxiety I take 150mg of the serterline and 2.5mg of the orlansapine. It worked for a few months but now the anxiety has been returning. How can I get my cortisol levels to balance out again and stop the high anxiety and body tension? I also have alopecia totalis where my eyebrows, eyelashes and all scalp hair have disappeared. @DrKateLyzengaDean7 ай бұрын

@@DrKateLyzengaDean interesting. I have high cortisol- it’s not very very high but it is abnormally high. I understand it would be high when you are actively stressed, but if you are stressed in general but relaxing at the time, shouldn’t it still be within normal? Mine has been high for at least 2 years and accompanied by other symptoms. Though not typical Cushings. It annoys me when it’s blamed on stress and anxiety because I feel it’s really a physical thing happening TO me if you know what I mean. Just confused about the whole thing.
