Going through the same thing with my son. He is small and not very strong for his age. First question- do you have people shoot off the toe no matter what curve they are using? My son switched to a 92 and his shots are best when he starts the puck on the heel. 2-does the top hand wrist rotate around the stick or does it rotate the stick to get that position. I definitely notice Bedard has a lot of that top wrist rotation. Thanks!

That is a great question. So the p92 is a little big of a different pull mechanic. I am assuming he is 2012-2014 age group and primarily is taking wrist shots? If we are trying to SNAP the puck, the Toe pull is not so much at the toe, but about 2-3 tape lines* from the toe. I have found that kids start to snap the puck better with the p92 from that position. If wrist shots are the main shot, closer to the heel, will get that puck spinning.

@@CoachCMACKHe’s an 81 lb 2011, just turned 13. He shoots both, although I think it would be good to just focus on one but I don’t want to be domineering dad coach so as long as he shoots I don’t want to dictate too much :). It falls apart on the ice a bit compared to off shooting tiles. One reason is he (and other kids I coach) don’t transition well when they are handling the puck in front and don’t end up getting in front of it enough.

Now I just wish I had a speed gun for my shots. Or maybe it'll be like filming myself skating. Maybe i don't wish I had it after all...

it is a great tool to get bench marks to work towards

@@CoachCMACK It looks pretty awesome. I imagine I'd get the same shock as when I first watched video of my skating and couldn't figure out who the new guy was with the same number...then I realized it wasn't someone else.

@@aaronwhite1786 only way to get better is to see what you currently look like, then make minor changes. Trust me, I feel the same when seeing myself. I did not like the way I skated, but through making the minor tweaks, I am much happier with certain mechanics that look smoother.

@@CoachCMACK Appreciate it! And yeah, it's definitely helpful. Better to realize you stand like a tree and barely bend your knees early than to go on years of doing it and never know.

@@aaronwhite1786 100%, making sure you have mobile ankles and good dorsei flexion will also help. If you feel like you are standing up tall, it could be either related to how tight you tie your skates or that you are tight in the hips/ankles. A good suggestion before going on the ice is to do a Planter fascia rollout (roll a golf ball under your arch) it will kinda hurt but feel good. It takes away that calf tightness that may be causing that upright position. Let me know how she goes!
