How to: Initial snap closure Bark River Jenna Martin sheath

Many people have had issues getting the snap stretched far enough to close on the Jenna Martin style sheaths. This is designed this way so that after the leather has stretch it will retain perfect retention. Here is the best way I have found to initially snap it.

It can be done without water too. I’ve sold Galco thumbsnap holsters for over a decade. Grab and twist while pulling. It gives the leather just enough stretch to snap close

Thanks for the tip on twisting! Probably helps loosen the fibers. Would be good for the elk and stag handled sheaths

I put a conditioner on the strap and close it around the handle of a Phillips head screwdriver, with the head sticking up, so I can wiggle the driver handle. After about an hour, I then use the 550 through the grommet as you did.

Many ways to do it indeed. Two minutes of time and the only things needed are water and a piece of rope. Perfect retention on this one in an hours time. I’ll take that as a win

Yeah I had the same problem. I’ve worked with leather before so I wet mine too and just pulled and massaged the damn thing until it fit.

I was triggered by the kinked leather flap under the freshly stretched strap.. 😵 Then you adjusted it with a reassuring squeak and I subscribed! ...The Tension was unbearable!! 😂🤣

I bought three Bark River Puukko knives and here is my only complaint! The problem is with the leather sheaths. The leather sheaths are rather short for the size of the Puukko. (The knife keeps falling out!) The Puukko's are the only knife I cannot safely carry because of fear of losing the knife... (Bark River leather sheaths suck.)

I bought 2. The BCM red liner mosaics was a BITCH to close. It took a slew of F bombast convince it. The Osage Orange green line mosaics wasn't bad. Once I got them closed I mink oiled the crap out of the sheaths and especially the strap a couple times and left them sit closed for 4 days on the BCM and 1 day on the Osage.. Both are getting much easier although the BCM is still stupid. I put a 550 paradors 7 snake knot pull on both of them too.
