I’m on the fence with BRK due to fit/finish. If you are sacrificing fit finish for the sake of volume, you shouldn’t get a pass. If you care about your name, slow down and spend the time to do it right.

I have many and zero issues. And if you have an issue just reach out to BRK they have a no questions guarantee. They will fix it. I have a Bushcrafter 11 in Jade G10. Incredibly beautiful but slippery. Called and they were willing to change it to a different handle. There are a million knife makers out there. Very few stand up to a BRK.

@@gingebrien2408 thanks for your reply, my last one was a Bravo clip point. The grinds are crooked on it. I emailed their warranty team and got no response. Maybe I’ll try again. I really want to be happy with that knife but the top of the saber grind is not a straight line and it pisses me off. Right now the plan is to wait until DLT is completely out of stock then sell it. I even considered getting a second one and hoping for the best, but I see so many reviews on BR that lead me to believe the risk is high I’ll have issues with a second one. My first BR was a Trail Buddy = no complaints; Second BR mini Canadian that needed the secondary bevel redone, I fixed it and use it regularly Third BR was previously mentioned, came in Crooked and dull. I sharpened it up and threw it in a drawer. I periodically pull it out and just can’t get used to the grind line that meanders about +1/8” too high near the heel on a damn near $300 knife. I’d be willing to pay more for some actual QC….

As a follow up. They contacted me about a month later. I paid shipping there and they fixed it and sent it back after a 1 month turn time. I’m very happy with it now.

You’ve got at least $3600 dollars in BRK knives on that table. I dare say you’ve got an Eye for exotic handle materials. Now the blades that BRK produce are phenomenal. The convex blade is everything. What has slowed me down is the fact that how many knives can I seriously use at a time? My favorite camp knife is BRK Bravo 1.5 in 3V. Yes I have the ultimate Bushcrafter with antler handle again 3V. These knives take a beating and stay sharp with a little stropping post use. I also have a BRK knife in 1V. Truly the best machete I’ve ever laid my hands on. I just prefer 3V for my hard use knifes. And last but not least I like made in America. May the constitution survive the progressives. You’ve got great taste. Cheers.

I would suggest anyone who wants to try a BRK that they buy it second hand and let someone else lose some money doing a QC job on it because BRK as a company sure as hell isn't doing any QC.

I recently decided to try bark river. It's a Bravo 1 in cruwear with elk handles and mosaic pins. It is absolutely beautiful. A week later and I've ordered 2 more, a magnacut classic hunter (in black and white pinecone) and a tope recon. There are a few others in my wishlist but for now those will have to do. As a small knife collector I just got into fixed blades with a B.R. being my third, I think I've found my favorite fixed blade manufacturer.

I've been using them since 2005 and they definitely taken over my knife collection. Honestly, I use them more than any of my other knives even tho I love them all. They simply just do what they are designed to do and that's cut. Sure some of the grind lines are slightly off. Sure sometimes they have little fit n finish issues but never have any of mine broken or failed to do what they were designed to do... Cut stuff and cut stuff very well.

I will not judge you ...I too am sick . I am a knife junky , I love blades like Tops and other random brands especially Enzo Brisa and other European scandi style knives. I prefer carbon old-school steels and I love making my own from puukko blanks. The best knives are the ones ya build to your liking IMHO ...Its not for everyone though but, boy its a satisfying feeling finishing a project knife. Barkies are beautiful. I'd like a Bushcrafter Lt or small gunny someday, but I always think about how many knives I can buy or build for the cost of just one brk. That said , I bought a Benchmade Bushcrafter a few years ago and it lost its fizz after a month. I do like the knife but it had quality control problems. I fixed the edge reprofiled it to actually cut wood not just paper. Also the handle was freaking lopsided so I had to get it even. Im not big on returning knives unless they are fully unfixable . It did take the fizz out of my disire for $200 to $300 knives. Probably a good thing 😂 Yet here I am waiting for a Tops Tanimboca Puukko to arrive 😏

Bro, the Tope recon is in stock currently at dlt and one bad mamma-jamma for the 299 they're starting at for 3V one knife that'll damn near it all this is the 3rd run of them I have one from the 1st and the 2nd and I may even grab another one from this run lol people think I'm insane for buying duplicates of a knife model with different handle materials but dude each and every single one is slightly different being they're all handmade and I love one as much as thee others! Just sucks once you've already bought one and then ya wish you would've sprung for a nicer handle so ya end up buying another one lol-ol-ol

I bought a North Country EDC, and the tip was unfinished so I had to put a makeshift tip on it, while the rest of the knife was fine. For $250, the tip not being finished is unacceptable to me, like selling a car without a steering wheel.

Agreed it should be for sure, but with the crazy amount of blades and awesome models that they keep pumping out makes up for it to me. I’ve never had one that had issues that effect the use of the knife, and honestly I’ve learned a lot by making a few a little smoother around the edges or whatnot! Anyway, thank you so much for your comments and views!! We do appreciate it!

Yeah don't put in the dishwasher, can ruin the handle. Biggest risk to a kitchen knife is hitting silverware and chipping the edge, or rust, but the 3V should be fine just wipe it down after each use.

Unfortunately BRK cost upwards from $500.00 Australian dollars here, at that price which is more than full custom price, I expect quality control, you fan boys love to make excuses for this company, at the price they charge there’s no excuse for poor workmanship.
@drunknnirish
@drunknnirish Жыл бұрын
They do have the most loyal fan base that I have ever seen come up with excuses for poor quality. I have had 3x in the last 4 years every single one had problems with fit and finish. For the price even here in the states there is no excuse what so ever. I dont give a damn about a warranty I shouldn't have to send a 400 dollar knife in to have it fixed when its brand new. I should not have to worry about a sub par heat treat, an edge burnt so badly that it takes me 5 sharpenings to hit decent steel, or a plunge line that looks like it was ground by a drunk 5 year old.

Fit and finish is one thing. The one 1 saw just looked crude. Whoever made the drop point with a crooked gap bolster that i purchased has no buisiness making knives. I sent it back 4 a better one or a refund, we'll c how it turns out.

I just don’t trust their quality. They used to be a solid company. They’ve changed their heat treat twice since the company has founded and not for the better. The grinds are 50/50 at this point. You either get even grind lines or you get god awful grind lines. They have zero consistency in their production. I’ve seen more broken bark rivers than any other semi custom maker on the market. If you have large to extra large hands. The handles will cause discomfort with extended use. They’re contoured very nicely. They’re just too small. The only bark rivers I’ve kept are the tope recon, and Pete’s Grizzly. Since they have custom handles by the designers that are larger than the standard bravo handle. I wish I could have the same views as you do. I love a lot of their designs. But as someone who was there from the beginning. It’s hard to justify supporting a company that isn’t offering the same quality product from when they first started. If they’d go back to their proprietary heat treat, beef up the handles a bit, and work on their fit and finish like they used to be. I would gladly recommend the company. Just my opinion as both a knife lover and a survival instructor who tests gear.

I have about 15 Bark River knives and there are a few finishing issues with them but nothing that I ever notice while I'm using them. Maybe I'm weird but I prefer that they aren't perfect. I feel less guilty using them. They are expensive and that's not improving but they use great materials, especially the steels and they have such a huge range of designs. I think the value isn't bad at all when you compare them to their contemporaries and they are a lifetime purchase. I have no fear that my knives will outlast me.

Nice video. Glad to see you received knives without flaws, I have two of their more expensive models, and both have plenty of dissapointimg flaws. So, there is a question of consistency with BR. I still love my BRs and the immense impact of their legendary blade and handle design on the bushcraft and survival knife industry is undeniable. They should step up their qc as well as general quality when you consider their competition. I have a comparative video you may find interesting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaemn59jfNWsorcsi=VLzkTYcQHQnCGbUW
