Only time to use the dye is when you know your gonna remove all refrigerant and fix a leak. I've been in systems that leave the dye and caused blockage in metering caps and had to replace filter Dryers and metering device and had to remove oil because the dye. Dye is used by b level techs and best is bubbles and leak detector. Dye is last resort and your about to remove refrigerant and repair the leak with torches

Freon leak was in the liquid line underground , thats why we added easy seal cause sometimes it repairs leaks its not just dye , customer wanted options before replacing her line set , thanks for the comment
