I liked what you did after you replaced the schrader. You left the replacement tool on, opened the valve and removed the end of the tool in essence checking for a major leak before you pull the tool off. I hav e had a lot of people discount the schrader as the cause of a low system. Another thing to do is listen when you remove the schrader cap. If you get that psst, definitely check the schrader.
@6barry662 жыл бұрын
Better yet just tighten the Schrader cap like you're supposed to or the large nut on top of the suction service valve and then you won't have any leaks at all you are supposed to tighten those two covers. If you don't like the covers that you have then use the ones that train makes you tighten it with a 9/16 wrench it's solid brass it's very tight and it does not leak.
@marvinostman5222 жыл бұрын
@@6barry66 why cover up a leaking schrader by tightening the cap over tight? The plastic caps won't always hold and the brass ones if you over tighten them you can deform the seats and when you do finally decide to change the schrader you can't get them out. I spent 17 years doing hydraulics and found over tightening the JIC fitting would make them leak. That is why Parker Hanifin came up with the FFFT method of tightening their fittings. FFFT stands for flats from finger tight. When we started using that system our leaks dropped dramatically.
@6barry662 жыл бұрын
@@marvinostman522 I think what you're trying to do is find a way to charge your customer another $300 the fact is the cap was made to be tightened not so tight that you destroy the threads but you should have no problem putting the flare nut that train makes on an air conditioner that has a really minor leak and tightening it or you could just use the change the pin valve on the Fly tool and you can just put a new pin in there. And this does not cost $500. I work with people everyday who find creative ways to gain the approval of their employer and padding bills and adding tasks that serve no purpose just so they can get commissions. And I know you know what I'm talking about because virtually every news outlet CBS NBC Dateline they've all run scams and they've all shown people what we do and right now we are in Industry under the microscope just do your job it does not cost $500 to clean someone's condenser it does not cost $500 to get rid of algae on an evaporator tray these are just cons to get extra money out of people and it makes all of us look bad. Right there on the front page of our industry magazine just about a year and a half ago was a headline and carrier and Linux and train and many people ask the question what's wrong with HVAC contractors. Most of us who work in this field did not need the negativity that was shined on us by a few unscrupulous people who can take the simplest repair and turn it into a 500 step procedure that cost $1,000. So do whatever you got to do I guess to feed your wife and children but this is the part of my job that I always hated and I always resent it where I was occasionally forced to price gouge people because I couldn't afford to quit my job right then and there and I had to spend a few weeks to find another job because I just didn't like what I was doing. And I did not feel good about what I was doing.
@marvinostman5222 жыл бұрын
No idiot. I assumed you would be smart enough to change the pin valve. It takes sisolation calve o little time you don't even need to charge for it. As for the isolation valves make sure they are back seated and seal the caps. They won't be used near as often

good to see you replacing the crappy black plastic caps with a good brass cap, that will seal any leakage from a faulty schrader core. Also I didn't see you tighten the top cap on the 'king valve' those are to be tightened with a wrench 1/6 of a turn after they are finger tight. There is brass seat inside the cap that will seal any leak from coming out of the stem. Good points though...

I had the hvac guy show up and tell me my ac was shot without even looking at it! His assistant was the one who got the creep to actuall hook hoses up and put some Freon in it…he was t even going to do that! When they unhooked the hose it started spraying Freon out of the valve and I was told it’s because I had plastic caps on the valves…so I got charged $200 for a brass cap and 1/2 lb of Freon which made my ac work again but it didn’t fix the leak in the line…so having this same issue every summer is a pain …no one in the area works on old units…unless ur someone special in town good luck getting an hvac guy to show up…

He charged me 100 bucks to add 2 pounds of freon and my compressor worked fine and the house started to cool. A week later the ac stopped cooling. I texted the guy and he only replied " that's really bad" . I remember that he didn't check for leaks. I asked how did my unit loose the freon. He simply said that it evaporated. In my mind that meant a leak, but he didn't bother checking any of that. He only said my unit is old and I need a new unit. I am sure the freon is all gone, but, can I still see bobbles on a leaking area?

My unit has been refilled (with R32 refrigerant) for more than 4 times, and a pressure test with nitrogen also performed. (Indicated slight drop on pressure after 3 day of about 35 psig); however, my mgmt repair tema claims that the pressure test result should be within a day rather than 3 days; thus, refusal of replacement of new AC piping system. On the other hand, Aircon (Daikin) installer claims that the unit is working fine with no leaking issue, and they also replaced the cooling coil if its the source of issue. Last week, I had my unit refilled again, but it isn't working where the refrigerant level is low (indicator from aircon). What can i do? would it possibly the AC piping issue? (Piping is concealed in the wall). Looking forward to your advises. Thank you

Sam, great video. Do you know if you have the system on when you do the test? (a low refrigerant seems to stop the system completely). Thanks.

What size is the Schrader valves? 1/4 or 5/16 ? Any Tool recommendations for replacements?

Mobile Communications Network was that problem in your unit if so is it working fine now?

You need to add an Amazon link to that removal kit. Become an Amazon affiliate and make some revenue. Great vid. Hopefully this works for my unit

Just use dishing washing liquid soap and sponge.

You picked a condenser to replace the shrader value that is real easy, but most units you can't use that tool. So you will have to do a pump down to replace it.

I do have a video on my channel showing how to do the latter. Thank you for the added insight! 🙂

Thank you very very much for the very nice explanation you have done .I will definitely going to buy that tool .I was always thinking about a tool to be able to change the vale without vacuuming the system , i am new into this just trying to do it my self .Thanks again

Very good. Do you do the same if it's the king valve?

2:03 Good ol' spit can work pretty well for bike and car tires where the valve is upright.

wish you showed the old Shrader valve looked like. Another question, if the cap is fine, shouldn't the cap stop the leaking?

On a typical service call do they always vacuum the system first or do some just measure and fill.Thanks for video very good
@williamvw32wf5 жыл бұрын
On a typical service call they should be evacuating (applying a vacuum to) the system, when the system is being evacuated two things are happening- one it's a test to see if it's leaking. A system that will hold 28 to 30 inches of vacuum (Mercury) for 30 to 45 minutes is an ideal leak-free system. Second, the process of evacuating the system removes the presence of non refrigerant gases, oxygen most importantly, moisture.

No. On a typical service no. Evacuation is done on installs or repairs. Clearing condensate drain should be done as maintenance.

Thanks for the vid. Super informative. One question how to tell what size or style shrader valve to get
@pwalms655 жыл бұрын
They are universal. You can go to any local supply house and buy a pack of them for a few dollars

Hi Sam, Do you do the leak test with the unit on or off? Does it make any difference? Thanks for your great videos! Frank
@ronk9830 Жыл бұрын
That's a good question, Frank. I wondered that, too. It didn't appear the condenser was on. One of the lines is suction, so I don't imagine the test would be valid on that one at all.
