I don't like the fact they want you to WASTE very expensive insulin. In addition to pre filling the needle and making sure you put out a drop or two or three, I just turn it to the number I need and inject it. Something else I found out is that when your pen is supposedly empty, there is still around 15 units still in it. I have a syringe that I use when the pen is supposedly empty. Funny how they want you to waste so much insulin. Just for an example, I need to usually inject 20 units 3 times a day. So that could be a waste of 3-6 or 9 drops of insulin wasted. The pen supposedly holds 300 units. It lasts me around 3 1/2 to 4 days. That would be 10-31 drops wasted. I don't know how much exactly that would be but add that to the 15 units you throw away when the supposed pen is empty. I have gotten up to 317 units out of my pens. It usually gets at least 315 units.

I agree with NileBreeze, wipe in a circular motion and never fan or blow on it.

Wow that looks terrifying the whole dramatic stabbing thing. I started on insulin earlier this year, I’m type 2 diabetic and the thought of injecting myself terrified me, because like many, I had a real fear of needles 💉 If I had watched this video back then I would have been petrified 😱😱😱 I use a pen and I am on 22 units as well as metformin etc. If you stab like that it would damage the needle, cause bleeding and terrible bruising leakage and not only that it would be extremely painful. I start my injection slowly and then quickly go in all the way then inject the insulin count to 10 and then remove the needle.

That's why I never use the insulin pen. I extract insulin with a needle, then inject myself the old fashioned way...

My diabetologist advised I do not change the needle as stabbing the rubber a ton of times can damage it, and only change it in case it breaks or no longer leaks

That sounds completely incorrect. The sharp is screwed on by you. They give us a box of 100 pieces. After using it how the heck are you keeping that sharp sterile?? Even when using vials and syringes, you are supposed to throw away the sharp and use a new one. Good luck with that. Yikes.

@@umaxen0048 Why's it have to be American schools though? People from other English speaking countries also don't speak English properly, yet somehow it's always American schools that get called out? My guess is that you're probably now an American an used this comment to talk nonsense.

1. I don't trust insulin pens. 2. I extract insulin from insulin pens with a syringe, then inject myself with the syringe. 3. In other words, I use the insulin pen as an expensive vial to simply hold onto my insulin before use... 4. There ya' go corporate headquarters... 🤪
