There are 3 popular ways of turning on inline skates. At least I know only three. First one is so called a turn. When the legs are in such a position. Like a capital A. It's rather unstable turn and it's possible only on small speeds. So I don't recommend you to use it. The second way of turning, is a turn in the scissor position. This is the most reliable and also simple
Way of turning. And we will be talking about it today.
The third way is a crossover. But crossover is much more than a simple turn and we will be talking about it in details in one of the future videos.
So let's move to the scissor position turn.
If you don't remember what the scissor position is, pause that video, and watch that one first. And now then you know everything let's start.
There are two main points that you should remember about. First: if you're turning to the right you right leg should be Infront. And of course of your turning to the the left your left for should in front. Don't try to turn to the right with the left foot Infront. Especially if you don't have you wrist pads. You can fall and harm your right side and your pride also.
The second important thing is edges. Your skates should be angled in parallel to the center of the turn. So the front foot is on the outside edge, and the back skate is on the inside edge. Especially pay attention to the front foot.
Now when you know the proper position for turning let's try to turn. In order to turn you have to make only one thing. Transfer you weight from center to the side where you're turning. But it's ready to say but not that easy to perform sometimes. Luckily there are some simple mental exercises that will help you.
First is called airplane and you have to imagine that you're an airplane. Keep your wings straight and tilt them carefully to the center of the turn. Like that. And here it is. You're turning.
But if you don't like airplanes you can imagine that you're a helicopter. Now your hands are not the wings but the blades of a helicopter and you should turn them to the center of the turn like that. You're skatg on a proper position. Right foot In front. Even if the right foot is a left foot. This is a rather slow and lazy helicopter. But it's enough to turn.
And for those who don't like both airplanes and helicopters I've got the thing that everyone likes. This is the suitcase with the money of course. Just imagine that you have stolen the suitcase with the money from mafia and trying to escape with it on skates. That's a rather stupid idea but anyway. Your suitcase will help you with it. If you're going to turn to the right you take your suitcase to the right hand. If pulls you down to the right and you're turning. Then you put the suitcase to the left hand and turn to the left. Very easy.
I hope you will finally run away from evil mafiozis and will be able to watch my next video and next tutorial. Click the subscribe button to not miss it. Don't forget about the likes and comments. That's all about the scissor turning on inline skates. Thank you for watching. See you next time!

I've just started skating at 40 years old. The last time I had inline skates on I think I was 19. I was having a difficult time turning. I tried lots of other tutorials prior to this one. I'll be honest, I thought your instructions were silly. But I tried them. Sure enough, the airplane method had me turning on the first try. Thank you.

Thank you! I've learned skating without any tutorials by myself ( and my own technique is far away from the perfect) but in my tutorials I'm trying to give the methods that proved their efficiency. They may really look silly in the beginning, but that's ok to look a little bit silly at skates in the beginning.

@@NikZvi wow, learning it yourself means that you understand the physical law of the skates and how your body reacts to it, and when you include these to your tutorial, a real beginner can follow it without confusion. I had my first fall last night (backward fall, shocked me to death), and found your posture video that explains how you should feel on your ankle etc., and today I have better (novice) balance! Thankss!

I can not believe how much the Russian Mafia analogy is helping?! Every time I do this turn I think about you and ONLY this analogy, not the airplane etc: suitcase full of money in the appropriate hand and running from the mafia. It makes me smile and everything goes just right. And to think that I thought it was silly when I first heard it. BUT it was the only thing that helped me and made me nail not just the turns, but also several other trick that day, because of the new hope and confidence. Thank you so much. I trust you completely now! LOL

Anything could matter when you're just beginning. That moves require a some speed. It's difficult to make on a slow speed, easier, when you're a little bit faster. But asphalt shouldn't be very smooth, otherwise you will slide and can fall. Never been to London unfortunately so can't give you any advice on a specific place. Which means when I try turns, I can feel my leg moving inside them. Is that a problem? 2. I’m a right hander and most games I play puts the left foot in front. So I’m very comfortable in the scissor position with left foot ahead. I can make turns with that position, but cant make tight turns. Is it something that’ll come with practice? 3. When I try crossovers, my legs don’t crossover. It feels like the other leg is too far forward and I can’t maintain balance. Any tips on that?

@@krishgetz1. it's of course better to have skates that fix your foot good enough, but that's not a very big problem. I've learnt my first powerslide on fitness skates that were two size bigger. If you don't have the possibility to get the new skates right now, you anyway will be able to make basic elements on any skates. 2. Tight turns will come with the practice. You just have to get comfortable with your simple turns and then your body will be ready for more fast weight transfer and hence the turn. 3. I will make the separate video on crossovers. That's mostly the question of proper edging and weight transfer. On crossovers the inside foot should be extremely on the outside edge in the end of the move, so it's not that simple.

@@NikZvi Thanks for the reply. Highly appreciated. And the lesson to be learnt is… patience. Will keep practicing 👍 Sports usually come very easy for me, guess this is the first one I’m struggling at and hence the need for reassurance. This is the first foot based sport I’m attempting and that could be the reason.

In this setup not only I can turn but even I can power stop and power slide. This 3x110 is quite hard to maneuveur. I tried to skewed the angkles but still I quite hard to turn. Well. I did not have really much problem while transferring from 4*80 to 3*110. It only took about few days to get back the powerslide and turns haven't been a problem at all. I guess you're just a little bit too careful in transferring your weight, 3*110 feel significantly higher and more cumbersome so you just need to get used to it and fully use your weight transfer.

That's of course a thing that depends on your physical shape. You can have some difficulties in the beginning, but in fact you body just have to get used and adjust to new positions it will take some time, but not too much. Just keep practicing. Thank you! I guess you just have to work on your left foot scissors more. Keep practicing it even without turning. Pay special attention to your edges and that will be fine. It's a pretty common thing for almost every skater. So called "switch" - uncomfortable side. I still have some problems with my backwards switch side. But backwards is not that crucial as turns, so you have to train it. It's a question of few sessions in fact.

All skaters who started as adults have had this problem. It's coming from the outside edge on your weak leg. you have to work this outside edge. Lemons, half lemons, snakes are great exercises to work on this edge. Best of all for this is the forward "Criss Cross". It is not that hard as it seems. Start slowly, in slow motion. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnetpKieip2ilc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2iUknWYg85-gK8 Hope this helps you.

I don't remember unfortunately. I've started skating when I was a kid and most of the basics came to me pretty naturally. My daughter learned it not a long time ago and I guess it took about three sessions for her to understand main principles. If you have problems with it you probably have to work more on your basic stride and ability to weight transfer first. Knees-edges-torso, one foot glide, all that stuff. I have some tutorials on it. Check them, it should help. And the turn will come with some time.

Probably you're trying to move the center of weight too fast. pushing too hard in the inside foot and it just sticks into the ground instead of turning. This is one of the ways of braking in fact. Start with the very big curves and do it smoothly. Just move the weight to the center of the curve smoothly, don't try to turn 90 or 180 degrees immediately. Then make this curve smaller step by step. It will come.

Your skates are softboot model and they probably don't fix your foot enough and you don't have enough strength in muscles yet. I would recommend you to try turning more carefully starting from the long radiuses and always make a good warm up before the training. If you have the possibility try to skate in some other skates. Maybe they will suit you better. Also don't tighten your skates (laces and buckles) too much , sometimes it can cause a pain.

You missed at least four ways to turn. One is the lunge turn, which arguably sucks. #2: a real parallel turn, with boots mostly aligned side to side, turning parallel as a skier would. #3: one foot edged turn. #4: a 3-turn (which is also a transition of direction).
